That main riff is one of the most heavy things ever created in our known universe
Correct
That riff drops harder than an entire galaxy
the end of times riff from Hell
its too much metal for one hand
This album in general and is beyond perfection.
Fun fact: This song makes you feel like you can destroy the world with your bare hands.
I swear whenever I hear it I go doing 283729919119 push up lol
Fun fact: That sound you hear in the beginning of the song is present throughout the entire track
Holy shit iv heard this song a million times and never noticed that😂
Also Pete's feet are present almost entire song
@Chad Blair is frogs, thats what kawazu means in Japanese
@Chad Blair worshippers of the Swamp, we all are.
@Chad Blair springtime mating
,,,,,,,,,,........ VOTED BEST METAL ALBUM COVER .................................................of all time............. .
This sounds like a massive war machine marching to the battleground across a desert...
I'm in total awe of this song!!!! This is right up there with my favourite MA songs of all time!!!
I envisioned a species of giant insects destroying an ancient city.
Totally agree ..... brutal
Kinda like the album cover
The album cover really fits the music. A giant black hole destroying an entire city!
Fun fact: the magic in Morbid Angel records lies in the quite different guitar takes on left and right channel vs. most other double tracked metal bands. Thank me later for this majestic knowledge.
🤘🏽
Are the separate takes on both sides multitracked?
oh my god, i can hear it now. I', just in the middle of both speakers and i can totally hear that now
@@mad_mobmusic I don't know but to me it clearly does not sound like double or multi tracker "per" side. It sounds like two tracks (left + right) just quite differently played vs the "standard" approach to play them as similar as possible in order to achieve the wider chorussy effect. Almost a jazz style, where two instruments play the same phrase but in a quite individual way. So good!
Hate eternal - king of all kings has alot of those "different" guitar riffs aswell. Very cool
Still to this day, one of the most unique sounding death metal bands ever...
@@facepalm486 ...you posted this on a song that has one of the best guitar solos in all of death metal? this is your bar?
@@Hyperlink1337 I can't figure out whats happening in this conversation.
Tacoma dome Pantera morbid static x slayer
Favorite morbid song by far. That constant chugging is an ineffable death machine of power, aggression, supreme control, and utter dark brutality. More recently I read back over the lyrics, and to me, they have a very Gnostic feel to them. Fucking love this, never gets old!
Same. Even better live too 🤘🤘
@@103964988 definitely bro! I was just thinking about how I was lucky enough to see them twice on their Gateways tour in 2000/2001. They started with this one both times, really set the mood. One time It was dying Fetus, Hate Eternal, and Morbid. Eric rutan had his hands full that night! The other night I believe was at The Galaxy Theatre in L.A. for some reason the venue sold bottled beer…midway into a song a brown beer bottle flys at the stage and hits Tucker. They all immediately stopped playing and tucker got (even more) serious, and in a half death metal growl (probably how he actually sounds when he’s pissed) he goes “WHOEVER THREW THAT BOTTLE, THAT HIT ME. YOU FUCKING PUSSY!! COME TO THE SIDE OF THE STAGE, ILL BEAT YOUR ASS!!!” And they all disappear from the stage. Then a few seconds later we just see these huge ass clouds of smoke coming out from behind the curtains, and they all come back out as the smell starts to hit the crowd. Tucker says something like “I’m still pissed. If anyone wants to fuck that guy up, you have my permission” and they just start playing where they had stopped. It was actually an impressive thing to see, considering what someone like axel rose would have done under those circumstances (cancel every show ever). These guys are a different breed of musician, literally rolling with the punches because guess what, that’s life.
Cheers bro 🤘
That intro reminds me of living in mississippi 😆
By far?
I agree. It is an awesome song.
God bless the 7 string guitar
@@shredlord8679 HAIL TREY
*CAFFEINE IS OUR ONLY SALVATION*
zero below22 back in the day 7 strings were rare and expensive. Most of the time they were custom jobs. I was so happy when Ibanez made the RG series. I picked one up for a few hundred. Finally a 7 string that was less than $2,000.
@@dinoflagella4185 totally opened a new world of heavy ass music
@@acupofcoffee693 this is my caffeine
The atmosphere they got on this album is just beyond amazing. You listen to this with headphones and it still feels like you're listening to this on a huge room.
I think the echo on Tucker's voice is what seals the deal. I recently got the CD and blasted it in my car, same effect. It's awesome. And Trey and Erik's guitar work giving you that MASSIVE atmosphere...
@@TheMetalGaia Yep, totally. They just nailed the amount of reverb on the whole thing, it's perfect. The tones themselves are also on point. This is the beat sounding album Morbid Angel has. Covenant also sounded similar to this, but on this album they just reached perfection.
@@JorgeLeitner Couldn't agree more, dude \m/
I remember this album's release.... Critics hated it. Now it is considered one of their finest.
Truly far ahead of its time.
Still gives me the creeps. Absolutely majestic.
Trey got that scrilla from major label bruh
"I stand before thee", and I'm still listening two decades later to this masterpiece
Right here with you
3:07 best riff
Yeah man, i fucking love this part, it's a great song already, but this is a nice treat
Trey's solo in this song literally sounds like a demon spawning from hell. Love the finger tapping at the end to create like this dark atmosphere
exactly ..,, when i listened to it i had mental images of a demon crawling up from a portal and preparing,
Eddie Van Azagthoth.
They were using the destorted- demon vocals before underground was invented
Literally
This song is a goddamn steam roller rushing at 200 mph on a plain full of rabbits.
6:07 must be one of the most downright epic things I've ever heard in music
Oh yeah, that's a sublime lead guitar. Like cloud to cloud lightning...
morbid angel, carcass, coroner... almost all of bands from those days... fucking legends alive and kicking, these modern dudes just play a genre
3:08 this riff certainly must have killed people instantly
I literally replay this part over and over....powerful shit dude\m/,
Death by helicopter blades.
Sewer sludge w a dash of lava
reminds me of the riff from chopped in half by obituary
Every time I listen to it I just can't believe how GOOD it is.
That colossal shred. it's even funny but this is like grinding mountains.
I really cant get over how death metal is just the ultimate form of music. Its unbeatable
I agree
I agree. Death metal kicks ass.🤘🤘
Damn straight
“Ultimate form of music” in what world dude? I like death metal as much as the next guys but this is not peak music

Even to this day, the jagged many-angled solos in this song defy all natural human understanding of key and tonality.
Ultimate Certified HOOD Classic 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
💯💯💯💯💯
It's basically "cock your weapons and get ready to shoot it out" type of music! 🤣🤣🤣
hellheah cuuuh
Perfect soundtrack to an eerie, otherworldly esoteric space opera
You can hear where Gojira got their influence from.
Lonnie Booth gojira are cool. But they could never beat Morbid in my eyes.
and behemoth..
Gojira is just a child near M. Angel
Pret0 B0mba gojira are amazing I wouldn’t insult them by calling them a child but morbid angel are legendary yes
and Portal
You can't go wrong with some old school classics
Man that solo is something.
This is their most relaxing album to listen to imo. I often just faze out on gateways...
This sounds like it is the chaos space marine anthem. That beat is straight out of the warp and setting off heresy detectors everywhere
Both solos by Trey? The second one is out of this world!!!!!!!!!!
The first solo is Erik Rutan.
the definition of death metal
6:06 goosebumps everytime, pure bliss and extacy.
This Intro riff is brutal heavy
My favorite of theirs. I love the doomy elements
Trey has a guitar style all his own...It's like the perfect balance of order and chaos. very creative riff work and leads everywhere. I think this is my favorite album from the Angel Morbid. It really sank it's teeth in me...
Formulas is my favorite, along with Alters.
Same here. Gateways is one hell of a masterpiece!
and don't forget, dark! it's dark all over, brutal atmosphere demonic, darkness!
out in Florida hearing the frogs croaking by a lake while listening to this just eerie echoes
I stand before thee, gods of all prestine
Come forth to see, all things to be seen
Now know the presence, and choose thy wrath
For flock of tyrants, who know not thy path
Come now in sweeping vengeance
Come now in needed time
I demand as I stand before you
Cleanse this worlds decay
I demand to know the light of a promised land
I demand to see this corrosion wiped away
And the slithering begins
as the shell of men crawl weeping
and as the light of dawn is growing
the realization sets in
And with the winds that are blowing
the final truth has come
That the ways of the shallow empty
have brought it down
The winds that are blowing
shall bring it down
And while your clinging
to the ways of your worthless life
Your world is falling
you are left with nothing
and with the winds that are blowing
the final truth has come
your ways are shallow and empty
have brought it down
your ignorant haze
has brought it down
Return these days to the righteous
heal these wounds of time
I have waited so long
for the winds of change to come
through eyes still clear
through eyes not dulled by fear
through eyes behind the soul
I see what must be...
I demand to know the light of a promised land
I demand to see this corruption wiped away

That guitar solo by Trey was fucking deadly!! 🤘🤘
out of this world playing
this is their most evil sounding album imo

No MayheM's "Whether you like it or not" live in Leipzig is more EVIL. I am not a Black Metal prima donna, I've just listened to it, oh and I can tell you it's on a whole other level! Peace Brother ✌️!
2024 and this is still the best guitar solo.
Ever.
trey is a genius. morbid angel > cannibal corpse
Trey is a genius indeed but I myself prefer Cannibal Corpse
Morbid Cannibal Angel Corpse. 😊
@@brenthaymon280 Corpsegrinder on vocals, Trey and Pat on guitars, Alex on bass and Pete on drums
I think this is the best death metal song ever made
I beg to differ
yea, well beggars can't be choosers.
ABSOLUTELY
One of the best death metal songs of all time, also the album is my favorite DM record from the 2000´s
The intro riff Reminds me of jungle rot’s ruthless omnipotence breakdown
I have loved Morbid since Altars. When I got this when it first came out i was a little disappointed because I wanted more neck breaking speeds. As time moved on its become one of my top albums. Talk about a slow grower, it only took 20 years...
It sounds massive
TOP 5 GREATEST DEATH METAL BANDS ON THE PLANET
Remember, this wasn’t heavily praised on release.
best morbid angel song dont even @ me
Still my favorite Morbid Angel album. the atmosphere, the pacing, and the overall killer songwriting and lyrics. best line up for sure. I remember going to see terrorizer open up for Nile and i got to meet Pete Sandoval. he was a nice guy and spoke to me and my friends for a bit after the show. we took pictures and i told him how this was my favorite album he played drums on.
The lyricist of this song has read his bible well. State of the art.
And I think I know where Backbone came from. I can hear Gojira's inspirations in this one.
Nobody's galloping doomy riffs are lower than Morbid Angel's.
this album is where Portal got their sound
Maybe if you put it in a blender
Essential Death Metal Classic!!! Morbid Angel be Rockin the Fucking World. With their Dark Brutal Melodic Death Metal Riffs, Blast Beats from Hell and Ghoulish Chugging Screaming Demonic Vocals.
Absolutamente sensacional, esse álbum inteiro é uma verdadeira obra de arte densa e obscura.
love the production on this album, Definitely Trey's best solo on this song. Ive never been a fan of his solos and their randomness, but this solo has a purpose, it follows the scale of that rhythm, he still loses me at the end of the solo, but all and all great. Pete was pretty much at the his prime for this album 230 bpm ++ jeeze!!! wish the production of Heretic was like this album :/
I completely agree, but the solo kicks massive ass
That mostly is the point of Trey's solos they are chaotic and what would you expect from someone hopped up on Meth?
Can’t handle the heat of the lava
@@jamesleclair842 he doesn't do meth you buffoon.
I would actually say it is 90 BPM if you follow the guitars.

I've been listening to this for years, and I can never feel the 7 minutes. It's just amazing
One of the Greatest Lineup in the History...Killer Playing and Sound
This album is so heavy that I hurt my back picking up the CD. 💿 🤘💀
The chug lords are appeased by this master peace
There’s a clip of from a recent show 4/23 in Indiana of Azagthoth on the mic explaining that this song is part psychedelic. “Psychedelic edge “
21yr ago wow. Remember getting this album couple of days after release day. Remember looking at the art work on front cover and thinking " that must be one big f-ing eagle" 😂 (referring to the portal, thinking it was the eye on an eagle) until I got home later that day and opened up the full sleeve and found out it wasn't an eagle after all.
A lot of times I skip parts of songs just for the solo but this is one I can usually allow to play through. That solo is so heavy. My speakers never get loud enough
