    Arguably, the greatest mind in BJJ today, John Danaher. I had the privilege of meeting his first and only teacher, Master Renzo Gracie, in NJ, his home base, and it was legendary.

      The Renzo Gracie HQ is in NY not NJ

      @@gojanibrosjiu-jitsu2138 I know that. What I was referring to is where he actually lives. Yes, Renzo's main academy is in NY, but he lives in NJ.

    I want to see the Rickson/ Danaher training session. Super slow and respectful not a brawl. I know people who trained with Rockson and said it so crazy because he does so little and its so effective.

    How cool! I was there at the same time as you. I'm in the video! Wish I could remember everything John discussed that week.

    What did he say after "A good example of this was Gordon Ryan's first match..." Did he say Keenan Cornelius?

      @roydean  3 місяці тому +3

      Yes, he was referencing the match with Keenan.

    Oof. ya gotta give us something more here. Even if you're not allowed to film Danaher teaching you could at least get rolling vids with his students, or interviews where they talk about what it's like to train there. B roll and stock music aint gonna cut it

      I have visited there to train. It was an amazing experience! No regrets!

    I absolutely adore your content @roydean, but I must say this video (although very well put together as always) misses the mark a touch. It feels more like a commercial for John Danaher's academy than a snapshot of your martial arts journey. Maybe because it's short in length? Possibly because it's weighted more towards John Danaher rather than what you came away with from the experience? I can't talk for all your subscribers, but I subbed to your channel to add your invaluable perspective to my martial arts journey. JD's words in the opening to this video was absolutely gold - it would have been incredible to have heard your thoughts on them. With all that said, again, fantastic video as always. Looking forward to the next one! Ossu!

    I'm sorry but there is no actual content on this video. Surprising, judging by the Roy Dean videos I've thoroughly enjoyed thus far. Nothing actually happens here, there is almost no grappling, none from Roy himself, just a couple of words from Danaher in the intro, and some generic '''cinematic'' drone footage with generic inspirational music in the background. I think we can do better than this. The information shown here is little more than the statement: ''I went to Austin to train bjj with John''. Please take this comment with the respect it's intended. Thanks

      I understand where you're coming from. John is under contract with BJJ Fanatics to teach exclusively on their platform, so I felt privileged to just be able to film a class, while respecting their arrangement. I may do a more analytical talk on technical insights I gained in the near future. Stay tuned. 😎

      Would love to hear more about your experience Roy. From what you felt going in, during, and after. To the stories of the people you met. You can’t just go to Mecca and not tell us all about it. 😊

      He is very good, and definitely not overrated. Deep insights and problem solving abilities. Impressive historical knowledge. He's teaching cutting edge submission grappling. I was impressed.
