    I literally had this studio model in my hands over here in Ireland although it was the USS Yamaguchi at the time. It was damaged whilst being sent here for an exhibition and I was tasked to do repairs (with permission from Paramount) but it was too badly damaged for me to do anything without major work so I decided to leave it. Your colour palette is on the money, sir!

    Beautiful build, as always, Lou. Great idea on the lighting of the saucer navigation lights - using the tube/fiber optic/epoxy - all of those are great ideas. As always, thank you for taking us along for the build.

    Lou, first and foremost, many thanks to you for the great video series on model building and detailing.
    I have spent many an hour watching your videos which have more than re-piqued my interest in the hobby. A few years ago I had pre-purchased the Round 2 - 22" Space 1999 Eagle from CultTvMan with the desire to build it for my grandson. I had started the prep work on the kit with rattle-can plastic-primer (not satisfied with finish at all) when I was rudely interrupted by Hurricane Harvey. Fortunately, the kit survived the flooding and after two years of rebuilding things are finally starting to settle back into the norm so I am looking to dust off the kit and get started again.
    I myself am gearing up for retirement soon (well not as soon as I would like) and I am looking to get back into model building and want to invest in a more professional approach (and get away from rattle cans if I can) so I would be grateful for your recommendations on air-brush systems, compressors, etc. and was wondering if the ATT email address is still good for contacting you directly? (As I am not sure you would want to post product and brand recommendation information here). Again Lou, thank you for your videos and please keep them coming.

    Those quarters near the Bussards would be perfect for Ensigns like Picard who are into noir detective holonovels. They'd look just like neon lights.

  • @MrChief101
    @MrChief101 4 роки тому +3

    Firstly, an extraordinary amount accomplished in "just one week!" Windows... windows... WINDOOOWWWS! (or so I imagine the neighbors might have heard)! You make the painting and sorting between the shades of blue effortless.
    As for the bussards nearly touching the saucer's edge... well, two things: I can imagine a young cadet writing home to mom speaking of the all-night throbbing glow outside the cabin and several letters indicate him/her going mad. And if you compare some of your final shots with the major reference image you showed-- you'll see that it IS close, but slightly less so. Almost as interesting is that the rakish angle of the model's saucer edge is even more rakish on the shooting miniature. So they got that wrong and it affects the overall look of those two (three... four? uh, sure) details meeting. Hmmm.
    I took your gnash of tooth over the rapid strobe light to heart-- I was redently reviewing my various board projects and these little guys popped up again-- a trifle late but you work so fast, when I see a concern of yours it's way too late by the time we get your vids out here.
    When dear Don departed this realm to sit on the right hand of the Great Bird of the Galaxy, I wondered about his old "Federation Flasher." That was a circuit I had figured out on my own in the dim past but wasn't ready/able to bring that to market (I have a monstrous multi-light/circuit board that does strobes and nav-lights for 4,5 LEDs per function-- a big mess, still sorting that out-- the little guys I sent were off-shoots of that big one. I like them better but "Federation Flasher" is so perfect a name... I settled on MicroFlasher-- we'll see! In the meantime, you can enjoy them (and I will send more). Oh! I left the one that "bust loose in shipping" sitting on top of the solder pads so it was easy to experiment with wiring or colored LEDs)!
    All looking quite good, Lou-- love your taste in t-shirts.

      Eliot Brown Like you flasher boards, look like home etched pcb’s. I have been building simple flasher circuits and micro based lighting/visuals solutions for a few years and have as much enjoyment doing this as building the models. Cheap electronic components and companies like Adafruit make it an easy and cost effective alternative to commercial lighting kits as well. Lou does good work and is an inspiration.

    • @MrChief101
      @MrChief101 4 роки тому

      @@franciscovarela7127 He certainly is-- My only observation about using a micro-controller like an Adafruit is that you're using a gadget that can fly an F-14 to make blinkie lights. Only a little exaggeration. I've been working up small boards that do each function. Only in the grandest of models does one need all the functions and I say, pick and choose. But I haven't gone to market yet. Keep 'em flyin' Francisco!

      Well at least you don't have to worry about that with the clear kit from AMT in the late 90's just scrape the windows and move on. Same with the Transparent kit that came out earlier this year.

  • @Serenityindailylife
    @Serenityindailylife 4 роки тому +1

    Lou, thanks for the videos first.
    Second of all, there are plenty of marker or pen options to fill in the windows. I use a tiny pen from stabilo for most of them I also use pigma microns and staedtler triples pens. All of them can be found at Michael's, hobby lobby and most art or craft stores. I use them quite a bit. I used to build gundam kits and I bought the gundam markers which dry out quickly but they work too.

    On the ENT-C the nacelles/bussards are close to the saucer but on the newer Ambassador class ships (Yamaguchi, Excalabur ) they are positioned lower than the saucer and are more like the nacelles on the Galaxy class.

  • @sliuman
    @sliuman 4 роки тому

    Nice update Lou. You're right, the decals really help the hull colours pop that little bit more. That Enterprise looks mighty fine and the lack of an aztec pattern does not hurt the ship at all! I noticed something however, I always thought you were a leftie, but you used your right to cut a decal. As a right-handed person, I could never manage that with my left, especially on something requiring finesse! Ambidextrous skills as well! Looking forward to the LIS Chariot.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  4 роки тому +1

      I am a proud "leftist" but had the misfortune of spending the first grade in catholic school and at the time, ( the mid '60s) the nuns were not keen on left handedness so I would get the ruler across the knuckles if they caught me using my left hand. By the time I was able to escape and go to a normal school I found that i could not use left handed scissors. It also screwed me up for sports as I cannot catch anything with my right hand ( go figure)

    • @sliuman
      @sliuman 4 роки тому

      That's a great anecdote. Just state school for me in the UK, so no nuns to rap my knuckles! But I favoured my left leg when I played any sports.@@aztekdummy

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  4 роки тому

      Magnet wire is a last resort for me. It's too fragile. The last thing I need is to over bend the wire and have it snap inside a part

      @@aztekdummy Even cat 5 network cable is thinner then that wire if magnet is not your choose just saying that wire for that model may a have been bit easier to fit wire. however in modeling if a way is figured out and it works the builder should be okay with that
