- I fly with friends Luke & Bernie from Lee-on-Solent (EGHF) to Guernsey (EGJB), IFR via the airways. Luke has his PPL(A) & IR(R) and is looking at completing his commercial licence and instrument rating, he asked if I could join him on some IFR trips, with this being the first!
Departing Lee, we climb and join the airways before practicing a hold and finish with an RNP approach. A longer video than my usual content - I've tried to keep more of the flying and procedures in, with less of the cinematics. Hopefully this allows you get a taste for IFR & airways flying!
This is my first video using my new PC & editing software (hence the delay in posting!) - the edit is a little rough round the edges, but any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Awesome video. Very interesting . Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Fantastic video!
Thank you!
Nice video George, many thanks for posting. Very educational and well worth the wait 🙂
Thanks Colin! Footage for my next video is already filmed and awaiting editing - so hopefully less breaks between videos going forward 🤞✈️
excellent video. I'm also building ex-ATO IFR hours for my CBIR with trips like this. AP and a capable bod sitting next to you really helps!
Thank you - enjoy the hour building and good luck with the eventual IR exam, best (and cheapest) way to do it! 😃
Great Video George…. Keep them coming 😊
Thanks Nicholas!
Nice flight, you guys picked great weather for it. We've only been to the Channel Islands once and had to duck under a bit of a cloud bank mid channel but I haven't visited again since I got my IR(r) rating
It was a beautiful day! All 3 islands have instrument approaches, so it will certainly make it more accessible with your IR(R). 😃
What is the go with every radio transmission at x3 times the normal conversation? There is no need to have a contest on who can talk the fastest during a radio call. It's not like the frequency is full. Clarity is the key with aviation. I feel new people wanting to come into the industry are turned off because they don't believe they can manage such situations. As a pilot and experienced ham radio operator I'm concerned about the over the top speed of such radio transmissions now days.
I think this is a valid point, I talk fast naturally which is probably not the best habit for aviation, and probably creeps in out of habit sometimes. I do however think there is a difference between VFR and IFR comms - and as an example, some London Control frequencies around the LTMA can be manic at times, which is when things end up becoming quick from both ATCO and pilot sides. Totally agree about clarity though, if either pilot or radio operator are not happy that the message has been conveyed/understood as they wish, ask for clarity and confirm. Thanks for the view and your thoughts - safe flying!
Hi George, I hope you are well and thank you for your videos, is there any way that we could have a conversation? email? socials?
Sure, @CoepilotUK on Instagram
