See, people hate on the whole "companion romance" dynamic. They sort of let it slide with Nine/Ten and Rose, and they hated it when it was all but confirmed between Eleven and Clara. But the relationship between the Doctor and River Song made /sense./ A bit edgy at times, but they foiled each other so well. Plus, the Doctor didn't spend all his time with River like he did with Rose, so we weren't exposed to it in every episode. I dunno. It just worked.
Think it worked cause it felt less like a Uni professor hooking up with a freshman and more like two Professors getting along EXTREMELY well at the Christmas party. Rivers always been the most mature and experienced of his companions, even more than her Mum.
I loved River Song because she survived for so long as a character. Most characters, especially in Modern Who last only a season. Few last through a regeneration. River, as a character, survived two. There's very few characters who can do that (The Daleks, Davros, the Master, all those guys, they do not count)... I love how the people who make Doctor Who were so incredibly determined about completing her story. I'm not sure in how much they planned it out or just made it up as they went along. I'm incredibly impressed by how they managed to keep up the "always meeting in the wrong order" basically the entire time. And that, I feel, is what really makes River Song great. Rarely in my recollection of Doctor Who, has so much work gone into a character.
I was going to make a comment about them always meeting in the wrong order, but you beat me to it. Though i want to add one thing. With the exception of the library episode which didn't mention the journal, every other time the two meet, they refferenced Jim the fish. We have yet to see that story line. But I do think that the fact that when they first meet, River says "the last time I saw you, you showed up on my door step with a haircut and a new suit." and we saw that scene in the husbands of river
martijn van weele technically she survived three regenerations. The tenth used one but kept the way he looked. I think eleven called him vain, which always makes me laugh because he's talking about himself
I love River's story arc. Yes, it's wibbly wobbly timey wimey, but in the best of ways. It fits ever so nicely into Doctor Who. And this video is just beautiful.
How beautiful. River has always; will always be my favorite Dr. Who character. Feel a bit silly crying about a fictional character, but dear Lord I loved her and her interaction with Dr. Who! Hello, Sweetie.
Part of why River worked was because she was more of her own character than a companion. She had her own adventures, own code, own powers. In many of the key adventures with her, she actually schooled him. And she is the only other character in current canon that can regenerate naturally. She is another Timeless Child. One could say that the TARDIS made her to be The Timeless Child's mate.
Everybody knows that everybody dies, and no one knows it like the Doctor. But I think that all the skies on all the worlds might just turn dark, if he ever - for once ---- accepted. (River Song) Sometimes, its just not fair.
This is probably THE very best tribute to River Song and the Doctor that I've ever had the pleasure of watching....Sad, happy and exquisite......your editing is spot on. Kudos.
Anastacia Morgan I have to agree there. I love river sooooooo much. I didn't know how I'll survive the new season without snippets of her here and there.
im gonna disagree not with the current writing of dw i wouldnt want them to ruin it like alot of other things they have with the latest season i hope the next one is better (as a side note i have no problem with the new doctor its the writing and the supporting characters that are trash)
this is probably the best video of these two that ive seen, im in a library right now so i cant exactly cry but there is definintly a part of me on the inside just bawling. this is beautiful and this whole show has shown me so much
I've watch this series since it first began in 2005, but for some reason, I never made the connection between River's death, and their dinner together at the Singing Towers. Thank you ever so much for posting this, and for allowing me to make that correlation.
This made me cry. It is so beautiful and sad that I couldn't help but cry, because their story is over and something new is going to happen, but not with her. Nothing will ever be like River and her Doctor.
Wonderful. I love how you editted the matching sequences from the Library to the Special. The perfect tribute to The Woman who Married The Doctor. She is my favourite Who character. The Ponds and Eleven forever.
Absolute perfection. From the editing, to the musical score, to the connection of the character arc, masterfully planned and executed. The best River Song compendium on the Web - bar none.
Andy Hardisty but sexy likes river so she might want her daughter to be close. river was conceived in the tarnished so technically she is sexy's daughter as well.
JMO River is an escape artist and she left that mainframe at the library a long time ago. Maybe she found a Flesh or Android body to download into but she has and one day when the Doctor least expects it there will be a Hello Sweetie.
wonderful video showcasing one of the shows best love stories. you seem to have capture all the best parts with very fitting quotes and music. theres always gonna be critics but this is just brilliant.
Omg watching this, I just realised why, when he gave her the sonic, he waved it in her face. He was saving her, so she could be saved to the library.
I never made that connection either, until seeing the scenes back to back like that.
As 10 said, he is VERY good!
Omg I never made that connection

I hated Rose, she was never my favorit and i never shipped ten and her. But River and the Doctor was a match well made.
It worked because the Doctor and River Song are the same. They're equals. They're both time travellers. They are both time lord etc
River Song isn't a companion.
I loved River Song because she survived for so long as a character. Most characters, especially in Modern Who last only a season. Few last through a regeneration. River, as a character, survived two. River Song: the new generations Sarah-Jane Smith :)

martijn van weele Captain Jack Harkness was a Lengend too
so did amy and rory and clara
I love River's story arc. Yes, it's wibbly wobbly timey wimey, but in the best of ways. It fits ever so nicely into Doctor Who.
And this video is just beautiful.
when the wind stands fare and the night is perfect, when you least expect it, but always when you need it the most..there is a Song
Mária Kováčová (fair, not fare, in case you'd like to edit your comment)
and now I'm crying again
How beautiful. River has always; will always be my favorite Dr. Who character. Feel a bit silly crying about a fictional character, but dear Lord I loved her and her interaction with Dr. Who! Hello, Sweetie.
Wonderful. You did the most complicated relationship on TV complete justice. You made me cry again.
Lol yup.
He saw her met her and saw her die as 10, married her as 11, had their last date as 12 and said his final goodbye as 11.

I agree 100%. My eyes are misty as I type.
it was capaldi who saved her 😨😨😮😮😱😱 when he scanned her face
OMG THE THING YOU JUST SAID TWO YEARS AGO MADE MY BRAIN EXPLODE
THE THING YOU SAID 3 YEARS AGO MADE MY BRAIN EXPLODE ASWELL
OMG I COULDN'T REALIZE THAT TILL YOU SAID !!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH SWEETIE.
my god how did Moffat think about everything, her plot is just so IMPECCABLE it makes me feel emotional 😭
I've waited years now to see this, and it's finally come to pass. We've all met River and the Doctor at last.
This can't be the end of River's saga! We need her back! I wanna see an interesting interaction between Riven and Jodie's dr.
me too. You bet she would have no problem at all with her doctor being a lady now. I also hope Vastra and co come back
Yeah!!!
im gonna disagree not with the current writing of dw i wouldnt want them to ruin it like alot of other things they have with the latest season i hope the next one is better (as a side note i have no problem with the new doctor its the writing and the supporting characters that are trash)
@@daltonbest9320 yeah I agree with that. While I'd love to see River again, not now with this writing
There might be a chance if they revisited that library thingy I think.
this is probably the best video of these two that ive seen, im in a library right now so i cant exactly cry but there is definintly a part of me on the inside just bawling. this is beautiful and this whole show has shown me so much

I think River would've been THE perfect companion to Capaldi's doctor.
This made me cry. It is so beautiful and sad that I couldn't help but cry, because their story is over and something new is going to happen, but not with her. Nothing will ever be like River and her Doctor.
i will be watching again and I'm in tears as well
This was truly beautiful it captured perfectly her entire being on the show.
Wonderful. I love how you editted the matching sequences from the Library to the Special. The perfect tribute to The Woman who Married The Doctor. She is my favourite Who character. The Ponds and Eleven forever.
OMG, I cried! I love them so much! The Doctor and River Song. Thanks so much for such a fitting video to their love.
I know right? Absolutely beautiful
WHO THE HELL'S CHOPPING ONIONS?!
I've never seen a crying sandwich
You don't want to... >-
Me.
Brb crying. Why i can’t get over these two😭❤️
what about jimmy the fish? almost everytime theyve checked their journals, jimmy the fish is mentioned. Are we going to see that story?
You haven't played the Doctor Who game: The Eternity Clock yet. You learn more about Jim the Fish there.
I swear their relationship is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.
Didn't expect this to be so emotional. Jesus Christ.... beautiful editing
you know, i thought im over them! and then i came across this! oh gosh! I cried! This is absolutely wonderful!
Even as a Vulcan, I love River Song, and her counterpart, Alex Kingston... And she will never know..........
Absolute perfection. From the editing, to the musical score, to the connection of the character arc, masterfully planned and executed.
The best River Song compendium on the Web - bar none.
Best love interest the doctor ever had and the only one I ever wanna see tbh.
I still think they should take her "saved" persona and upload it to the TARDIS. The Doctors wife would then BE the TARDIS!
Then sexy wouldn't approve
Andy Hardisty but sexy likes river so she might want her daughter to be close. river was conceived in the tarnished so technically she is sexy's daughter as well.
One of the few places where an adjective can be used as one's name, as that is the only name they called themselves.
Dayas Silvis oh "she" would not like that
JMO River is an escape artist and she left that mainframe at the library a long time ago. Maybe she found a Flesh or Android body to download into but she has and one day when the Doctor least expects it there will be a Hello Sweetie.
"you and your secrets will be the death of me" 😭😭😭
No.. That's just the wind catching my eye..

#TheOnlyWaterInTheForestIsTheRiver
That's so perfect. I very nearly cried. Wow, amazing video. The Doctor and River's relationship is so unique and it was very well put here :)
10 years she was on the show, that's the longest running consistent companion
