- Contra, distributed as Gryzor in Europe and Oceania, is a 1987 run and gun action game developed and published by Konami originally released as a coin-operated arcade game on February 20, 1987. A home version was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, along with ports for various computer formats, including the MSX2. The home versions were localized in the PAL region as Gryzor on the various computer formats and as Probotector on the NES, released later. Several Contra sequels were produced following the original game.

My brother and I used to play this video game all the time.
I remember with my friend playing waterfall. "If you get left behind its your fault" we would finish waterfall in seconds
The sound of shooting with S weapon on one target by both players is like ASMR to me. :D
That weapon is a game breaker.

Played this with my cousin on one of these old arcade game automats on vacation, the trick was to unplug it and plug it back in so you didn't have to use money to play LOL

I have now 48 lives here using my Nes android emulator and everything is somewhat difficult just like in Alien's Lair where even tho I have the "spread" it takes too long to get those purple creatures like they take atleast 15 maybe 20 red shots to get killed. The most troublesome part is the "facehugger" creatures coz they are moving. Its like the game is programmed to become more difficult as long as you play it all over again retaining the progress.
Couldn't get very far until I hurd about the cheat code for extra lives. Not bad for 8 bits

No game should be able to be beaten on a home console in 15 mins. This is part of the reason I gave up on consoles back with the SNES when I bought Gun Force and nearly got to the end on my very first play through. Beat it on the second try and it took about 20 mins to complete. That was a lot of money back then for a kid to save up and buy a game and beat the thing in less than an hour total. Straight arcade ports had no business being sold as a full priced game. Quarter munchers or not the games were easier to control because it wasn't a giant ball top joystick and whacking arcade buttons. The exception to this would be fighting games because at least there were difficulty options for the A.I and a host of characters to try and master... plus VS. against friends and family. Contra is still a sweet franchise and one that I would rent but it wasn't a buy. Too damn short.
