- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Today I show off this 2022 Volkswagen GTI at night! This is the SE model, which comes standard with the IQ Headlights and light bar. I also compare it to my base 2022 'S' GTI.
For 2023, ALL models come standard with these headlights, but only SE and Autobahn have the lightbar

So glad my 23 GTI-S has the IQ headlights. All the lights on these cars are bright. Rear tag light is so bright it looks like under-glow lights. Fantastic little cars tho. 🤘
Agreed!
How are you liking your GTI so far? Any issues? How’s your mileage? I’m debating on getting one while I’m stationed in Germany.
Beautiful color I have the same, I coded my lightbar & fogs always on with drl’s
Nice!
How did you do that? I would like my light bar to be on during the day.
The dead spot are moving shutters, that are deactivated in NAR models.
You can get a OBDELEVEN, and code full Dynamic light assist. It's close to audi's matrix lighting system.
That’s awesome!
I thought you needed actual changes made outside of an OBDEleven's capability. I do find the highbeams to be disappointing in this car.
That is the further development of the AFS headlight, formally named ADB----adaptive driving beam, here the driving beam means high beam
I really really wanted the IQ lights. But there was a ‘22 S with low miles in perfect condition for $7k cheaper. I couldn’t justify paying for a new one just for the lights.
Finally someone posts a video of the full range of the iQ LED's from a US Spec, although not an R, lighting is still the same. Thanks for the video and explanation. 💯👍
You’re welcome! That’s why I wanted to make this video
so the 2023 golf R should have the same lights as these then?
Yes they will. However Golf R doesn’t have fog lights.
White light on a wet road during heavy rain is a no no. At least he fog lights should be warmer 3,7 to 4,5 Kelvin's
It is a common misunderstanding to light up roads in a wet condition, it only causes dazzling problems to the cars in front.
The correct approach is to reduce brightness of headlight illumination in the dead center, and increase illumination intensity around the side----we call it corner light.
When turning on low beam and corner light together, it becomes the all weather light, and you can treat it as a evolved front foglight
@oijhhytdirhrbru well it certainly seems like you know about the topic at hand and I believe you're right, it makes sense, I've got a Polo GTS [the GTI version we have in Brazil] the new "Matrix Headlights" are amazing on the dry, but the light is too white, I'd say 5.500K, it loses 20% of it's performance on raining nights and the car does't have funcional foglights, only those DRL's which is a shame. 😪
These are cool. I didn't even know my GTI had them until my mom pointed it out. It definitely draws the attention of people on the road! Looks very cool IMO.
I always turn off the long bar because i love the simple look of my MK8 GTD, i turn it on only when i'm traveling at night but in city, always off.
The second proyectors are the matrix lights
Correct. However, here in the US we can’t use the matrix function
@@JVette01 what? That's stupid
I agree. Just laws and such haha
the lights that light up when you press close key on remote are "coming home" lights. You can adjust whether they lit up at all or not, and for how long.
Thanks for letting me know!
Is there a way to turn off the LED bar along the front?
No. Only when the headlights are off
As a 20/20 Golf R owner I love the lights on these cars so nice shame the US gets stooged as usual with tail lighting etc when it comes standard in other areas
The regulations of headlights and other lights are very different between north America and other regions in the world. thus the shape of beam, brightness distribution of the beam of this SAE variant headlight are not as optimized as the ECE variant.
Most importantly the adb function is disabled due to regulations(NHTSA has just approved adb high beam with reduced brightness)
So the real IQ headlights are illegal in US?
Yes
@@JVette01 What a shame... They are truly awesome!
It's a shame that the light projectors/lenses don't turn with the steering wheel like the mk7 anymore
I actually prefer these because the cornering light is better in my opinion.
@JVette01 The mk7 came with 90° cornering lights as well that turn on when you use the turn signals or turn the steering wheel at low speeds. They just didn't work at higher speeds, which is where the dynamic turning light projectors came in handy.
Oh gotcha, didn’t know it had both.. That’s pretty cool!
The afs function (at least enabled in the ece variant) is made possible by the matrix module which also takes part in the illumination of low beam, however it usually has less performance than the afs method of turning the whole low beam module horizontally in the mk7.
You can take look at the headlight of polestar2, it doesn't turn the module horizontally just like mk8, but you will certainly not doubt the AFS low beam of that car.
Can not belived somebody trade that mk8 for a ford.
FULL LED ALL AROUND!!!! Love it!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Tough to see anything out of the side windows with all the pointless over-tint - even with the cornering lights.
Camera makes it look darker too
Theyre not fully unlocked functionally from my understanding. Can you confirm or deny?
Correct
damn this my dream speccccc
The light bar on my grill has uneven lighting, and I am not sure how to approach the dealer about this. It’s bothering the heck out of me.
Just bring it up to them
Does anybody know why 1 of my mirror floor lights have got spots and what id say is like shards of glass.. it didn’t use tobe like tgat😯!! It’s driving me nuts
It happened to my gti club sport too, the car is at the dealership right now, if you're still under warranty take it back to the dealership to be repaired
@@Danlorde how funny.. Ive only just got it back today and was fixed under warranty 🤣🤣
Not like in AUDI😂
Awesome video presentation! Thank you.
Would you rather own the SE trim for the extra money?
That’s a hard choice. I think I’d still stick with the S. 5k a is a big jump
Ok I'm confused as I have the autobahn edition as you guys call it.with the I q lights but my indicators are all dynamic not flashing as yours
I put in the title (US Version). Ours are slightly different.
I believe the dynamic turn signals are a factory option for the GTI’s as well that add more to their msrp if built onto the car
Not a fan of the turning signal, looks hard to see.
It’s not in person but I see what you mean.
How much better is the light output vs the 22 S…?
It’s a lot better, especially the turning lights and the illumination of the sides of the road
Hello! would you mind doing a Golf R review? It would be nice to see GTIs big brother
I would LOVE to. I got to drive one a couple weeks ago and wish I was able to film it.
@@JVette01 Thank you for posting constant MK8 GTI content!
Yes! I love this car haha. Need to get into more reviews though..
How long was the wait time for the factory order?
I’m not sure. I bought mine off the lot
I also bought mine off the lot from Dallas.
Are you sure that is an IQ lights? I have european spec Golf 8 with IQ lights, and tail lights are different, and all the indicators are dynamic. Also, if this is IQ lights, you didn't show the main feature. The IQ feature.
Hence why I put in the title US version
IQ means that it will "intelligently" cut a portion of beam when there is a car in front or you have a car coming towards you. That is really amazing. Did you check this. This will work only with a high beam and when there is no street lighting.
The us version doesn’t
I Europe Golf 8 comes with three different lights specs. Regural LED, LED+ and IQ lights. That what you show in Europe is an LED+. Is it written on the lights IQ lights? On the side?
@@ZoranImsiragic 1:36
Iq light is different to matrix leds right?
Yes because matrix is not allowed in the us
@@khe8969 no. it will just automatically turn on and off
If the high beam detects someone coming in the oncoming direction, it will automatically turn them off
@@JVette01 quick correction...matrix is not legal but the IQ lights are Matrix LEDs just software locked. A few companies can remotely unlock them and give you full matrix control if you meet 2 conditions. 1 have the lighting package (LED) and have the dynamic chassis control....the auto leveling sensors of the dynamic chassis control is required to program the matrix lights.
This options are standard on the US Autobahn and Canadian performance editions.
What are IQ headlights? Is it different than normal LED headlights?
Yes. They are adaptive projectors that are different from the base reflectors found in 2022 only S models.
What exactly do they do? I am getting a 2023 SE and I’m not sure if it has that or not but I don’t really know what it does.
@@sammodell2382 All 2023's have it.
@@sammodell2382 They automatically turn off specific "pixels" that may annoy other drivers when it detects other cars
@@sammodell2382 they are matrix lights. They actually turn on and off parts of them when oncoming traffic comes as not to blind them. Also they self level continuously.
Never point your camera direct into head lights. Always at an angle, for the same reason you wouldn't look direct into headlights.
Best review so far, thank you!
