Mr_Girr Possession is more powerful than a 9th level cast of Geas (the only way to have a permanent Enchantment spell) as its basically a permanent Dominate Person. Thus, a 14th level Necromancy Wizard using its Command Undead class feature on a ghost is more powerful in basically every way than enchantment wizards.
@@evannibbe9375 Does Command Undead work on ghosts? I'd class ghosts as more "dead" than "undead". A ghost is someone who has died but not yet made their way to the afterlife, whereas undead are just reanimated corpses.
@@apexkonchu2234 While I understand your reasoning behind it, Ghosts are undead creatures, so it does work on them RaW. It does get advantage on the saving throw, due to it's intelligence of 10, and it also has a +3 in charisma, so a ghost has a pretty good chance of success on the saving throw. Additionally, if it goes through the border ethereal plane to the ethereal plane, the effect would immediately end (Etherealness feature). A smart wizard would command them not to do so, but the ghost seems to retain some free will, in that the feature makes the undead friendly to you and obey your commands, but it doesn't say it cannot do something outside of what you command it to do. This does put some points in the favour of the ghost.
@@CharlesBalester Fair enough. It's still not particularly easy to use it on a Ghost in the first place, since the feature requires you to be able to see the target.
Probably a number of extra casts of Misty Step equal to warlock level and being able to Misty Step into the Ethereal Plane starting at level 6, and having the ability to just not have ghosts act against you starting at level 10 (sort of like a more specialized version of the permanent Protection from Evil and Good that Paladins have).
Some humanoid who went in there searching for power but got lost and only has limited control of these powers and is trying to get someone (the warlock) to let them out in exchange for power.
Perhaps lean into the whole 'human energy fields' thing and mix it with that bit of lore that says that a person's own faith can channel Divine magic, god or no god, if it's strong enough. The Deep Etheral has some faint wisp of consciousness, from the sheer force of conscious beings being aware of their own exist, and believing that what they see is indeed reality. If a being reaches the right form of enlightenment, or the right kind of madness, they can truly believe the idea that reality is shaped by subjective experience. That in turn alters the Deep Etheral, and in turn, reality itself.
I was really expecting that, "What god of the multiverse can pop in and out of the ethereal plane effortlessly?" joke to be about Horizon Walker Rangers. They can basically cast that 7th level spell at level 7 for a turn once on a long rest.
In my table we use the ethereal plane as the plane of emotion and subjectivity. The ether (Half-real Half-ideal dust that comes from the plane) is the source of magic, worlds without magic don't have a ethereal plane and since magic is imprinting your will on reality that's where emotion, understanding and channeling magic come from. Ghost are the emotional imprint left by a person that really didn't wanted to die and necromancy is done by creating and artificial mind on the ether to replace a soul in the physical body. That way souls are strictly astral.

There’s this one homebrew sorcerer subclass that can use an ethereal jaunt whenever they cast a first level spell or higher, and using this, I made a character who was basically an inter dimensional post man
Hearing that description of the Deep Ethereal just makes me want to... make something to be put there. Like, a huge city where the maze of streets are obscured by deep fog and every face you pass will never be seen again because the fog makes time and reality like a constantly overlapping series of revolving doors, or maybe a fortress inhabited only by the giant corpse of a dead, forgotten god, and all the mist comes from his still-somehow breathing lungs. Or, oh! Maybe a forest of trees made of solid fog and leaves made of semi-transparent mist, with branches that extend between trees and mysterious lights that pass between them at semi-regular intervals, acting like a sort of neural network. Or hell lol, combine all the ideas!
It feels like the ethereal plane is the less useful version of the astral sea, I understood it as the astral sea connects the outer plans whilst the ethereal connects the inner, but if you could reach the inner planes through the sea, i suppose its less noteworthy. Although, not having to deal with astral dreadnoughts, avoiding the gith, and being hidden whilst simultaneously spying on the prime material seems like a decent trade-off

I am a bit surprised that UA-cam didn't complain about the manji even if it only showed up in passing. Beyond that, not much else to say except that I always wondered where the concept came from, so thanks. Well, I guess I have also always where Phase Spiders originally came from given it's not like they predate on ghosts--the only way to make them more horrifying. I'll just continue to blame wizards since that's usually the case.
okay, so we have the Material Plane, the Feywild and Shadowfell as alternate realms, 2 verisons of hell with The Abyss and the 9 Hells, like, 9 different versions of Heaven, 4 Planes of elements, and the Ethereal, Deep Ethereal, and Astral Planes acting as sort of this bridge between them. i think we have enough Planes of Existence. I know you're probably not going to take suggestions, but I would like to see a "Basically The Elemental Planes." I know you have touched on them in the "Basically Genies," but I wouldn't mind a satirical summary of the four planes, and their inhabitants.
+5 initiative has pulled off baby!!

"Does having Ethereal sight lets you see invisible creatures or hidden traps/doors?"
I shall forever be grateful with a reply.
I can't wait for the day that 'there would be a Basically Warhammer 40k, it may never happen, but I can dream damnit.
5:54 yes!! Oh my God!! I thought I was the only one!
I also thought "incorporeal" was pronounced in-CORP-rul
Revisiting this video after Journeys through the Radiant Citadel got announced. Can't believe that we're getting an entire city within the Deep Ethereal.
You forgot to mention Tharizdun, the one dude who made the sacry demon place, ended up moving into the Deep Ethereal after the gods put him on house arrest for making the scary demon place
What I got from this is that the Ethereal plane in like a spooky mcspookson magic fog reality glue. How'd I do?
Great video as always
You should call your patrons the "funding fellowship of the rune"
Runesmith: "A base as deep as my voice"
Me: We must go deeper
getting a set of raycons because of you Runesmith, I hope you're happy
I'm having so much difficulty trying to grasp how the border ethereal and deep ethereal are like visually xd
3:55 It has been confirmed by Adrian Carmack (the one who created the word "gib") that it is pronounced "jib" as in "giblet"
What about Phase Spiders? They are my favorite monsters ever!
I love the fire horses and I mean that in the most homoerotic way possible
this comment made my day
Glad to hear it, shame there’s only 25 mins of the day left
Thought for sure you were describing Kingdom Hearts when you went on to describe the Deep Ethereal.
You have a knack for setting up interresting facts, and then dead-panning a joke to ruin the immersion.
"You'd be a sausage..." just entered my lexicon.
There are Ethereal Dragons and Devourers in the plane. Also you forgot the horrible Ethergaunts.
okay, so we have the Material Plane, the Feywild and Shadowfell as alternate realms, 2 verisons of hell with The Abyss and the 9 Hells, like, 9 different versions of Heaven, 4 Planes of elements, and the Ethereal, Deep Ethereal, and Astral Planes acting as sort of this bridge between them. i think we have enough Planes of Existence. OH, i almost forgot Limbo too!
Isn’t there also that one monst Jacob complained about in his magic resistance video which can make u stuck in the ethereal plane
