In 1978 I bought my first gun when I was just a 12-year old gun nut; an Apache Black Nylon 66. Stupidly sold it in college. Once I got into my late 20's, I started searching for one. Found a few, but they were too expensive for my young family budget. Finally, in 2019, I found one at a gun show and snatched it up. It is just as much fun as it was when I was 12. This video reminds me I need to take it out tomorrow and put a few rounds through it.

Bought mine about 1964 at a country store that sold everything from groceries to work clothes to bologna sandwiches to guns and ammo…gave $49 for it…sold it about 1976 like a fool…bought another of the last ones produced about 1985 or so which I still have..they are a great innovative little rifle…can’t understand why Remington doesn’t bring it back…they would see a million more of them and get back in the black…

Sorry to hear about your pops. My Popz passed away last Dec 9th, he gave me his Nylon 66 years ago when I was still young and dumb, had it in a storage unit along with an old 20 ga he also gave me and ended up loosing the storage unit and the guns through neglect and a misunderstanding on my part. I literally cried watching this vid and knowing I lost them still tears me apart. May God richly bless you and yours, brother. 🙏❤️

When Band of Brothers came out in 2001, I was a kid and I was SO convinced that grandpa’s brown Nylon 66 was an M1 Garand for whatever reason. The 66 became the first rifle I had ever fired as a kid, and the first rifle I owned myself…was a 1942 M1 Garand. Still have both.

I'm a lucky guy I have three of these. Two of them do not have a serial#. The first one was a mail order and was shipped to the house, how many of you remember those good old days? They could always referb the tools and offer them again. Parting lines and cores can all be made good as new. New posts and bushings and run another million or more.

I still have my “66” and it still works like brand new. I have had and do have other .22 rifles, but the “66” is still my go to plinking gun.

As a teenager in the 70's, we had the use of a Nylon 66 from a friend of my father's (the rifle belonged to his son whom had passed away) and we learned about manual of arms, marksmanship and safe gun handling with that rifle. Over the years I have looked at several different Nylon 66 models, but held out because I wanted a really nice--non banged up and abused-- one for myself. This weekend, in a local small town pawn shop, I found a PRISTINE Mohawk brown version which had just come into the shop that morning.
Needless to say, it went home with me. It will have a Redfield 4X scope installed upon it and will have a new life hunting squirrels and varmints.
Just as Remington intended, all those decades ago.

Around 1976 or so, a guy came to me at work and said, "I hear you know a lot about guns." Well, some. "I took my gun apart and I can't get it back together." Next day we went out into the parking lot where he handed me a barrel, a nylon stock, and a cardboard box full of parts. It included an exploded parts picture which wasn't really an assembly drawing but it was all I had to go by. One spring really eluded me. It was labeled in the drawing as "spring" and I could tell what it was meant to return, but it wasn't at all obvious what it anchored to, so I just picked something. I finally got it together and fired it a few times. When I disassembled it for the last time the anchor point of spring became obvious. It took me about a week of head scratching but I did make it a complete gun again.

I now recommend you hose them out with G96 Gun Cleaner and use an air compressor to blow the excess oil and gunk out of the action. Wipe off the residue on the outside of the receiver, reassemble and the rifle will be good to go for another couple or three thousand rounds.

I love the Nylon 66, first rifle I ever shot. it was my Dads, he bought it new in 1960. He passed in 2017 and now I have it. Cool little rifle, Dad always said if you miss with that Nylon 66 its your fault. Great video, thanks for sharing.

I was 15 at the time, 1959, and asked dad if I could get a Nylon 66. To my surprise dad said yes. That was a get summer. The best part is I still have the gun. It has been a great shooter. The only issue I've had was the disconnector broke. You were right Keith, the internals are a bit of a mouse trap. UA-cam has a few step by step videos that will get you through in fine shape. According to the production stamping on the barrel P F 45 = June 1959.

I got my first Nylon 66 just last year, an original Mohawk Brown Remington made in 1972. So it's as old as I am. A little cleaning and it was running perfectly once more. It's quickly become my favorite .22 rifle ever. So light and slender. They're known to have fired 30,000 rounds without cleaning, and Alaskan trappers found they were one of the few, or perhaps only, autoloading rimfire rifles that would function reliably in the extreme cold.

I have my fathers 1963 Black and Chrome nylon 66. Still shoots great today. My mom gave it to him for Christmas that year. Have a pic of him holding it that morning.

I have a Mohawk Brown Nylon 66 made in August 1959. It was my grandfather’s - he was a grocery salesman and he won it in a promotion. It still shoots true, and in hundreds of rounds (some really cheap and/or old) it has not misfired even once. I absolutely love shooting it, owning it, and having a connection through it to my grandfather’s world in 1959.

I was gifted a new Mohawk 10 C with the detachable 10 round box magazine in the earliest 1970's and it is brown (not any shade of green). It is an awesome 22LR and I still have it along with the Instruction Folder And Parts List. And, oh yeah, I still use it..

Thank you so much for these videos! I inherited my grandfathers rifle and would have never been able to get it taken apart and cleaned if not for you.

When i served in the Royal Military Police in Northern Ireland in the early 1970s one of the infantry battalion commanders carried one of these as personal weapon in place of 9mm Browning HP.

Great video! Brought back memories. :-) I had a new Nylon 66 bolt action rifle when I was 13, way back in 1963. Wish I still had it!

The Nylon 66 was my first firearm when I was about 15 years old. My dad bought it for me used at a local second hand store. My friend's and I shot more rounds through it than I can remember and loved every single one. Back then 50 cents was the price of a box of ammo at the local hardware store. Best 50 cents I ever spent. Unfortunately I traded it in on a 22 bolt action rifle to be able to use it for hunting in Pennsylvania. I have regretted it ever since. I tried to replace it with another for a few years with no luck. I have a accumulated a very large gun collection over the decades since my first firearm but none have brought me more enjoyment and just plain fun than my Remington Nylon 66. I am now 71 and the Nylon 66 is long gone but my fond memories still remain.

I have an Apache Black with white diamonds, Nylon 66. I've had the rifle since 1970. In fact, at one point it was stolen from me in a burglary. About a year later, the police recovered it and returned it to me. It showed a few new scratches and dings when I got it back, but still worked fine. According to the manufacture date codes (stamped on the barrel) mine was made in 1962. The odd thing is the date code is supposed to be two letters, but mine has three letters. The first one being the code for 1962. The second letter is the code for the month of September. The third letter corresponds to the code for the month of November. I don't really understand the three letters being stamped on the barrel, but in fact, they are there. It's really an accurate, reliable shooter.

I still have a nylon 66. Been a favorite of mine since I bought my first in 1964 for $49.95. If the triggers weren't so mushy they'd be incredibly accurate, they do well as is !

I got a used one for my birthday as a teenager in the 80's, exactly as the one in the video. As an adult I moved to a place where lots of gophers, Richardson ground squirrels, came up in the spring. That old 66 finally got seriously put to use and boy it was so much fun.

I have never been close to one, but I bet a big strength is powder residue not sticking to the nylon.

Yes, I have a Nylon 66. I have fond memories of when I was around 8 or 9 and my grandfather would shoot snakes with his Nylon 66 on False River in Louisiana. I am now 71 and I have that Nylon 66 from my grandfather. I don’t really care what it is worth, it will stay in the family for years to come. Thanks for the video.

First rifle I shot as a kid in the early 1960's. It disappeared with my dad over the years and it brings back good memories. Amazingly, my daughters gave me an excellent used Nylon 66 Mohawk Brown for Christmas a couple weeks ago! Have shot it over 450 rounds since then and field stripped/cleaned it four times.

They have consecutive serial numbers. I love this rifle and still shoot it all the time.

They are cool little 22s. We had one when I was little, and we used it all the time around the farm.
