    With the Fanatec Clubsport DD range now having been out for a few weeks, I have had a change to test it out in a few different titles. This is my full review of the Fanatec Clubsport DD, which offers 12Nm of holding torque, new FFB protocols and the excellent QR2 system as standard. Overall, this is a great mid-range direct drive option.

    FAQs, Corrections and Omissions:
    Corrections:
    - Torque Figure Error Correction Video: ua-cam.com/video/J_QiotUhGkk/v-deo.html
    - The IRL footage is a little out of focus during ACC. I apologise for that, but had no time to record that segment again
    - There is no IRL footage for ETS2
    Omissions:
    - Price Not Mentioned: This is because the prices could change quite a bit as time goes on - between starting and publishing this review I noticed the price changed. The conversion between USD, EUR and GBP also does not always match up when purchasing the product.
    Clarifications:
    - Wobble in Rig: My rig is at its limit when it comes to this wheelbase, but when performing the QR2 flex test I was pushing and pulling on the rig far more than I normally would.
    - Mounting with the T-Nuts is easier than before, due to a ball bearing on the nuts. It allows you to slide them into place and then let go. The bearing will hold it in place.

    Very Good review ! I just made the same transition from csl dd pro 8nm to cs dd 12nm and I share the same reactions to the dd 12nm. I’m already blown by the feeling from this unit. I really did’nt expect this. I would not say huge difference but this is all I expected from the csl dd pro 8nm when I bought it that was missing. On top of that full force is not released yet 🎉, it’s a keeper I finally drain my arms with 2laps round the green hell in a open wheel at 12nm. Please share your settings in AC, would be fun to compare the settings

    Thanks for the review. Do you find there is enough headroom to prevent clipping when using the Clubsport RS wheel ? Would you have gone for the DD+ with 15nm given the choice again?

    • @ECGadget
      @ECGadget  6 місяців тому +1

      You are welcome. I think that there is enough headroom for everything except the F1 car, which could have done with the extra 3Nm of holding torque. The tiny amounts of clipping is something I can deal with, as milliseconds of clipping is not really a problem. Given the choice again, I think for the cost I would still pick the DD over the DD+. If there was just about £80 between it, it may be a different matter.

    I have the DD Pro GT, I was also considering the CS DD at $700 but didn't pull the trigger as I wanted to see some reviews and I also figured I'd be able to recoup most of my cost by selling the GT DD Pro. Now the price has gone up to $800 (completely out of the blue) and I'm now wondering if it's even worth going through the hassle or just waiting a bit longer and going for DD+.
    I know you sort of touch on this in your conclusion, but do you think it's worth it in the end? Or is it more of a "I did it, so I'll say it to make my self feel better" sort of situation? would you advise others to do it because it's SO worth it?
    I'm not unhappy with the DD Pro, I recently put a QR2 upgrade on it and I feel it's already gotten a bit better as I don't have the slop I did but more power never hurts. So question is, is it simply just stronger force or are you actually feeling a difference? A more smoother DD? better low level feedback? noticeably faster response than DD Pro? Did you ever have a chance to try QR2 on CSL DD?
    My indecisiveness has already lost me $100 lol and I'm still uncertain and now thinking of taking a bigger jump to DD+, something is wrong with this hobby or me lol.

    • @ECGadget
      @ECGadget  6 місяців тому +2

      It also went up 100 EUR, so had I waited I would have ended up playing an extra £80 or so. I definitely think that (at the price I paid anyway) it is worth it, and am not saying that to try to justify something that was not. But do remember that I sold my old kit and recouped the costs anyway. Would I advise others to do so? It is not 'SO' worth it, especially fi you are happy with the CSL level. A good option would be to find out how much you can roughly get for that to help you decide.
      It definitely is more than just a stronger force though - it is a smoother DD and the feedback is better. Not astoundingly better, but better. It also has the whole FullForce setup, which could be important in the future. To me, the response was faster than the GT DD Pro, which I really noticed when I pushed the car over the limit intentionally to get it sliding or breaking traction in other ways. If you really want to extract everything out of your vehicle, I think it is noticable.
      I unfortunately never had a chance to try the QR2 on the CSL DD.
      If you are not planning on using it on PS, then the DD+ is a bit overpriced for the extra 3Nm in my opinion.

    • @strangerdanger1012
      @strangerdanger1012 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ECGadget Thank you for the detailed response. I think at this point, if I'm going to veer into the sub $800 territory, I will wait for the DD+. To me the difference between $800 and $1000 starts becoming a little more ummm acceptable and I can retain the PS compatibility. I guess that is likely why they pushed the DD price up, get people to go for the DD+.

    • @ECGadget
      @ECGadget  6 місяців тому

      You may be right there - I think my rig cannot handle the DD+ anyway. For me though, I would say diminishing returns, at least with the way my setup currently is. The extra £140 or so can go towards a new, larger monitor!

    Next time turn down the INT to like 2 the details pop so so much.
    You woupd have gotten more detail out of the rally while using all of its dynamic range. But the dd+ is stronger by a good bit. It says 3 exra nm but that allows you to srt it oike this one and not lose out on detail. Plus my dd+ feels like a dd1 in strength actually somehow a little stronger which doesnt make sense. But in my testing the dd+ with the base at 80% and 60% in game felt like my dd1 did at 100% on base and 60% in game.
    No dips no drops. 8 hours of use not even warm to the touch. Ive enver seen a base do that which is awesome. The ffb response is so so good.

    Hi, great review, very complete but I wanted to ask you something: I have CSW 2.5 and I would like to change it. I have a Formula V2 steering wheel and unfortunately I have Universal Hub V1 with 2 crowns but it is impossible to mount the QR2 on the Universal Hub V1. at this point I ask myself: clubsport dd+ base / new universal hub v2 / 2 qr2 wheel side I spend €1500. at this point, for the same expense, I'll take a dd2 podium (if they put it back into production) which still has the qr1. what do you think ? will it be better to go with the latest technology of cs dd+? thank you very much if you answer me

    • @ECGadget
      @ECGadget  6 місяців тому

      The DD+ is a better offering in my opinion than the DD2 (which I do not think will be put back into production in its current guise. That will be moving over to the QR2 as well I believe). The QR2 kit is excellent, though they seem to have stock issues (but that is Fanatec...). The tech of these bases also exceed the DD1/DD2 so you have better feedback effects. I cannot do a direct comparison between a DD1/DD2 and these, but I advise you to check out BoostedMedia's impressions of the product, as he has used the DD1 and DD2!

      Tanks for reponse. Cs dd or dd+ in my rig is much better because is more small than dd2 or dd1 and no need move the monitor position. It has the best ffb ive ever felt accross any 15nm or under ffb dd wheel. I was kind of surprised hy hpw fast the drtail gets sent. There is 0 latency its direct. I feel much less understeer because of it because it iust grabs ahold of you. I seriously am getting a tenth per lap on avergae faster even over my dd1. How? Idk maybe the response snd the catches i get. Its insane. I will never go bsck to 20nm if this 15nm feels this good. I gues because its holding torque compared to peak torque? Idk but it doesnt feel any different in actual strength but im getting better detail. Full force is just a bonus for the future but it is not needed.
    Also it is the best wheelbase for f1 racing nothing feels better then this in f1.

    Fanatec makes no claim that the peak torque of the Clubsport DD and DD+ is greater than the holding torque. One has to assume 12 NM and 15 NM are the peak and holding torque figures of the DD and DD+ respectively until Fanatec comes out with data/specs to the contrary.

      I did not try it on Forza Motorsport 7 - I honestly did not even think of that title. I sadly do not own it. My guestimation though is that you will get a reasonable set of FFB from it, probably similar to GT7. I am not sure it would be worth it for just that though. This is definitely gears more towards simulation over simcade. It also depends on the sorts of cars you will be using; if you are mostly going to be using tuned road vehicles then this will most likely be overkill, and then the DD+ a little extra! 3:06: that's not correct, there are Peak values stated: it's 12 Nm for the CS DD and 15 Nm for the CS DD+ because on the CS DD Bases the Holding Torque equals the Peak Torque and the Bases can not peak any higher than their Holding Torque.

    • @ECGadget
      @ECGadget  6 місяців тому

    • @momorious

      @@ECGadget that can have several reasons. Maybe you used the CSL DD in FFS Linear Mode which would mean it's capped to 6 Nm (equals double the power) or you experienced FFB Fading on the CSL DD after some use where the strength also drops from 8 to 6 Nm as that is the Holding Torque value of that base, which would again mean double the power now ;)

      Likewise the tired arms & shoulders. I'm an old coot living in a retirement community and have pre-ordered a CS DD+ after 18 mostly very satisfying months running a variety of titles on my 8 nm GT-DD Pro. My wheels all have the metal QR1, and I've found myself becoming increasingly annoyed with the mechanical slop and audible clicking and creaking from the QR1 system, especially so in DR2 and WRC. I'd initially planned on just upgrading to the new QR2 system. However, given the considerable cost to upgrade my fairly large collection of wheels, and based on the favorable reviews of the new CS DD's, decided to go all in with the new system. Time will tell if this was a wise or foolhardy decision.

      I cannot give you a resolution for it, because I do not have that figure. What I can tell you is that it is very granular - I definitely felt everything I thought I should be able to feel. But beyond that, I cannot give you a number, nor compare it to another wheelbase in this segment to provide relative feedback. I think BoostedMedia's video may be a better option for that!

    • @RR_85

      So the base side QR2 is separate from the QR2 quick release system that holds the wheel right?

    • @ECGadget

      Correct. If you take a look at the QR2 section of the video, those connectors are the wheel side connectors you have to purchase. The base itself comes with the QR2 already built in. You will be able to get a QR1 base side if you want, as PlugNico mentioned but, as said in the video, I do not recommend it at all.

    • @ECGadget
      @ECGadget  6 місяців тому +1

      The unexpected increase was strange, but I would not say it was overpriced in the market for what it is. Unfortunately there is no real way to know what you need/want - I suppose these reviews are the only way to tell. Unless you go to a gaming conference or something, where you may find booths with these sorts of wheelbases.

      1. nobody knows the peak values of the CS DD (maybe you have more information but you were "approximating" those peak values. If the peak values would be higher, don't you think Fanatec wouldn't use this to their advantage in marketing?
