LEMMY KILMISTER ASKS FANS NOT TO BUY MOTORHEAD BOX SET

- Lemmy Kilmister asks fans not to buy the new Motorhead Complete Early Years Box Set as he tells Artisan News it's not authorized in any way by the band and calls it "a fraud," but see why, here!
I worked for Lemmy in 2005 during the Hellraiser's Ball as his driver, etc. I brought my daughter to watch a Motorhead practice after school one day, she was 6. They get done, Lemmy comes off stage and tells Tim (his tech) something about the sound and starts walking to the bar. He sees my daughter, walks over to her, and asks her "Do you want to go play pool with us?" She said yes. He took her hand and we all went into the pool room and hung out, playing pool. The band took pics with her, gave her guitar picks and sticks, shirts, etc. and they even signed her Spongebob Movie soundtrack cd (Motorhead had a song on it, very cool!) and as we were getting ready to leave, Lemmy takes her hands and says "Listen to me sweety, don't EVER try heroin...I've lost so many friends to that, it'll kill you...OK?" She had no idea what he was talking about but she said yes and we went home. When I showed up the next day Phil yells from the practice stage: "Where's the Wee-One? Go get her!!" I thought he was kidding...he wasn't! I'll never forget that week, sadly my daughter was too young to remember it but I have the pictures and swag they gave her. RIP Lem, she's 21 now and never touched it!!
Started her off right and early. I was around the same age in 2005, and I didn't even know anything about Metal back then.
Brilliant
Awesome story
Love it!
That she felt comfortable and forgot this time is true proof, that this is a real story. Thanks a lot for sharing this! :D :)
If Lemmy tells you something important... Listen.
Just about everything he said was important. He was a humble Rock God. He made millions and his house was tiny. Very well educated, mostly self taught.
Lemmy had what very few modern musicians can ever dream of having; he had integrity. He was the exact antithesis of someone like Gene Simmons, he wasn't in it for the money.
Gene Is a egocentric sucker
I have the highest regard for Lenny but I do not think Gene is on the wrong either he has always been honest about his motives, there are other “artists” that are quite hypocritical about it.
@@jmrggrmj9330
Man you are right...
What about Corey taylor? Quote hipocritical uh?
@@jmrggrmj9330 met gene hes a douchebag expects you to grovel to him fuck that dude
Lemmy even admitted himself "anyone who tells you they're not in it for the money is a liar" what he's saying is you can make a steady income from something and live happily without having to rip off, overcharge or put other people down, need more people In the world who think like that.
"You might be a financial wizard,
with a sack of loot;
But all I see is a slimy lizard,
with an expensive suit;
Go on and run your corporation,
go on and kiss some ass;
You can buy up half of the nation,
but you can't buy class." 👍
RIP Lemmy 🤘😔

@@melquizedec "Just 'Cos You Got The Power" (that don't mean you got the right) 👍
You're a financial wizard, a top tycoon
You're sweet lounge lizard, with a silver spoon
You know you never had it, quite so good
'Cause you didn't know, that you even could
But the time has come to pay
Turns out to have been a play
Whatever happened to your life?
Stone dead forever.
Similar lyrics now that I see them. Interesting.
Now THAT is a true fucking musician.
Great comment brother
truth
Fuck n right
yup no sell out!
Couldn’t of said it betttr.
This is proof that Lemmy Kilmister was a true badass and a man of integrity, to him it wasn't all about money, it was about the music; he was a real rock'n'roll stormtrooper til death!!!
He didn't get any money of those cos he didn't own rights for early years...
He also said he didn't get into this to be poor. But he was right those in charge raped his fans. This is now par for the course it's only getting worse now. And music more than sucks it's trash. Nope independent and underground bands are the only thing keeping metal and real music alive. Look at I Wrestled a bear once they are everything wrong with metal pompous and stuck up all about the money and drama. Then look at Sabaton night and day while others just some where in between the extreams. I hate most bands but Motorhead was always a great band between them Korn and Rammstein that made up 70% of my music in my mp3 player.
It wasn't about the money AFTER he already MADE his money. The only reason they own the songs is because he sold them to the label. Complaining that the label is selling a box set of songs he sold them doesn't exactly show that lemmy wasn't about the money. Pretty obvious that his main issue was that he wasn't getting cut in on the sales.
its a shame that he had to go and we're still left with slugs like that Kiss guy whose name I forgot on purpose

One of the highlights of my life was being a local stage hand for a Motörhead concert in Portland around 2009. I was pushing cases on stage and setting up the sound system when I noticed the bass tech having some trouble with a power route to his rig. I immediately discovered the problem and got power routed properly. Around 10 min later, I hear a gravely British voice say, “can you give me a hand again mate?” I go over to see what’s up and I see the exact rickenbocker from this video in his hands. He says,”we need to check a few things. Can you give it a strum while we figure it out?” All of a sudden I was playing Lemmy’s bass at full power! They obviously didn’t need my help, but I think the guitar tech knew how special that would be for a guy like me. It’s not even the best story from that night, but it was the most incredible from my perspective. Thank you Lemmy’s guitar tech. You are a fucking cool person.
Holy shit ! That is a memory forever ! Right place at the right time for sure !!!

I miss Lemmy.... I had never met him.....but from documentaries, his music, interviews, & from what other people say about him......he was a stand up man, who lived his life on his terms. I greatly admire him and have the highest respect for how he treated other people & his personal opinions and standards. The world is not as good a place, with out Lemmy. I hope you are Resting In Peace, Sir. :...(
Met him once in LA. Incredibly humble dude with true character
Love this comment....I don't know much about him, but your comment touched me...it's great when we find people (like him for you) that has a huge impact on some bodies life without even realizing they did or how they have been there through life's ups and downs with someone ..to be there when no one else was..music is so powerful, and the magic in it and how it touches people...it might not be the same groups, or people, or even genre, , music crosses those unspoken words and just touches our soul..I swear it can change the world if people would just open up and let it
Justmiss jamey It's a day I will never forget, those 10-15 seconds were a major highlight in my life. I told him I admired him, and he gave me a genuine look in the eyes simply said, "Thank you", with a great big smile. If I can be half the man he was I'd be happy.
+Justmiss jamey and I love your comment !!!!
Wise words often fall on deaf ears . The reason there is so much sadness for his passing is simply with all his faults he was kind man who loved what he did . He loved his fans and they in turn loved him . Lemmy said Motörhead was not a metal band ! Just a rock band like his idol little Richard . At his funeral Dave of the foo fighters talked about lemmy and how they first met and was saving a present to give to lemmy on his birthday . As he held back the tears he pulled out a religious flyer signed by little Richard .
A few minutes ago I saw a video of Dee snider of twisted sister talk about their first show in England lemmy came on stage and said these guys are friends of mine so give them a listen . Then came to them and said I introduced you so now I want you to introduce me .lemmy was one of a kind and in today's world of fame mongers he will be surely missed
Rick O'Neill I feel the same way, I mean, I'm not extremely into their music, but I kinda like it. The biggest reason I have respect for Lemmy however is because of this video, because of the MTV video where he was reading fan letters and encouraged an African-American boy to listen to wherever he wants (because he took the time to make a small interview-show thing where he read actual fanmail), because so many other people in the music industry respected him, because of the emotion behind the speeches at his funeral (Dave Grohl's speech being the first that comes to mind, actually)... Yes, he wasn't perfect, and he struggled with drinks (and maybe drugs? I'm not sure), and he chose to keep living the life he lived, but it sounds like he kept his ideals close to his heart, and never strayed off of his ideals... And that's why he made a difference, at the end of the day... He could have just been remembered as "that dude that was one of Jimmy Hendrix's roadies once", but he'll be remembered as so much more than that...
Gotta love how much he supports his fans, and fuck the label that did this.
@emporornu God forbid a band gets offered a way to make their music their career and they take it. Them signing on to that label 100 years ago doesn't make them responsible for the label charging exorbitant prices for their box set.
Look for old cassettes at flea markets & garage sales. If you find old vinyl, you've struck pure gold ! Long Live Lemmy !!!
I'm going to look Saturday.
Exactly, picked up Garage Days on vinyl for 50 cents
I have a sealed copy of 1983's "Another Perfect Day"

The story of Lemmy that sticks in my memory, a reporter once asked him why he still lives in an apartment and not in a large villa, he was a superstar after all. He replied, why should I move out of the apartment, I have a rental price control here. It wasn't an answer from some superstar with a loss of reality, but from a normal guy. Motorhead in the ear and Lemmy in the heart
Bless Lemmy, now this was a real musician. Not moaning about things that make them less money but more worried about people being over charged for his music. Unlike Metallica and Taylor swift. Realise what industry you’re in and make the most of it.
Awesome. "I'm so bad, baby, I don't care." Way to go Lemmy. RIP.
The most badass group with the most badass lead singer, who was a damn nice guy. RIP Lem.
Lemmy Kilmister is a true badass. He does not care how much fans spend on their music or their shows, he just cares about how much fun the fans have when they go and see them live. He is the last true outlaw of rock and roll.

Did he remember you? I mean you met him twice right? btw. I'm kind of jealous ;)
Believe or not he actually did! 3 years in between. First time 2008 they signed my throat and i went to get it inked. I tried to convince Lemmy to sign the side of my face but he wouldn't do it :P in 2011 i showed my throat and asked if he remembers. Yes i do he said and pointed to the left side of my face.

it would have been if there was any justice in this world. Unfortunately not. RIP "Lemmy" Kilmister; born 24 December 1945 - died 28 December 2015 Now that I found both those dates, its kinda odd. He was born in time to see Xmas '45, and he died just a few days after his last Xmas in 2015. I guess he just really liked Christmas!
@@squirlmy he will out live them because his music will live on long after those greedy bastards are dead and gone.
I'm not into rock too much but I've always had a soft spot for Lemmy. He always had time for just about everyone he came in contact with, and his integrity and respect was second to none. His heart was made of gold, lovely man.
these are fine examples of corporate greed , reissuing the same stuff over and over again , overcharging the customers with outrageous pricing . iron maiden fans take note . how many times have they released the re-released of the re-released the re-released of the re-released album over and over and over again
+1manmaiden
But did they charge $600 for those rererereleases?
+Nightdare yes , if you add up collectively and more , they have re- released their vinyl catalogue 11 times by way of boxsets , re-released box sets , picture discs, vinyl , re-released vinyl , they released a eddie head cd boxset that cost £300 when it was released some 15 years ago , picture disc cds , I could go on and on
Bruce Dickinson said himself that the record label got most of the money from record sale.
Apart from releases in other parts of the world, I'm pretty sure that all of Maidens albums have been reissued as sets 4 times, the 95 Castle 2CD series, the 98 Remaster CD series, the 80's 2012 picture disc LP's and the 80's 2014 black vinyl LPs (which probably came because of the backlash against the 2012 PD).
While I agree with you that the record companies a greedy fucks, I also think it is good that they keep the albums available to purchase new. If not, you are stuck with seeking out used copies, and used will become in worse condition in the future. Right now I'm trying to coplete my Motörhead Vinyl collection, and the albums I'm missing are only available used from 200$ and up.
Box sets can be a good thing for people who don't own any of the albums in them, as long as they are the same price or cheaper than purchasing each album on it's own.
I would actually be more against compilation albums than box sets. They rarely contain anything new or rare like old single b'sides, and then all the songs are available on the albums.
There is also the fact noone is forcing you to buy them
My Maiden Cds are still in perfect workimg order
This is a guy who understood the music industry. Rest easy, you fucking legend.

Who would press thumbs down on this video? Some record company execs? I mean, why would someone come to this video and press "dislike?"
I met Lars Ulrich on sugarloaf mountain in Rio de Janeiro in 2017. he just came out of the toilet when i wanted to go inside and he stood for a millisecond directly before me. And looked in my face. I was so shocked that i of course couldn’t believe it. Then i followed him but was to shy to ask for an autograph. Then he and his bodyguard left the science quite quickly because they noticed that people recognise him. Oh well….
What a contrast to most people these days. Now you can never see a musician saying that. Max respect.
Most people these days are assholes, Lemmy was truly a brilliant musician and a top top bloke, we could do with more like him these days
A musician saying that would be the exception in any time period. Now vs the '70s, '80s or the 1700s, 1800s
I don't know if it's still true, I haven't been keeping up on the bands as of late. I remember a time when Metallica was suing their fans over piracy and was suckling on the teats of the RIAA. They could have taken many many lessons from Lemmy about how to truly treat the fans. * smiles * If you want to hear an amusing tale, it is not mine, I only heard it myself. HHH, pro wrestling star, tells a story, at Lemmy's funeral, of when he and his wife went back stage after a concert and how, when Lemmy, who was mostly naked with a lot of drugs, topless women, etc, realized Stephanie was with HHH, he had them wait outside of the dressing room and in a few minutes he let them in, and everyone was dressed, drugs out of sight, and Lemmy was very polite and respectful toward Stephanie. :D
Great respect to this man. Never forgot where he came from.
This reporter was super enthusiastic with these quotes ... respect.
Didnt get into his music but I really like him, seems like a right on guy.
He was right. If you want to buy a proper box set by Motörhead, that is Stone Deaf Forever! (2003).
I always chuckle a little when I look at these box sets.
For the money spent on the box set you could get a decent copy of the original LP.
Like the Stooges Fun House Box. It has "never before seen pictures", a book, posters, 2 LPs, demos and outtakes, band conversation duplicate takes and general scrapping the bottom of the barrel for anything .
The original gatefold LP from 1970 lists for $300. The modern boxset is listed at $633
When you look at Lemmy...you are looking at the personification and embodiment of the definition of rock n' fucking roll

Reasons number 666 1,000,000,000 This is why I love lemmy he is brutally honest and doesn't give a damn how much you pay for the show as long as its not ripping you off or him off. He's been poor he actually knows what it's like to be poor. He's not like the rich man. He's not trying to rape your wallet. He cares about the music he makes and he has great respect for his fans.
