Trying to gather the key points regarding people that are not in a / have never been in a relationship. -don't be afraid of pain and rejection -you learn to handle rejections through trail and error -put yourself in "dangerous" situations -be honest and forward about your intentions towards a person (in a controlled manner ofc) but still being confident -learn more about yourself by going to events etc. Something you know you will enjoy or either being curious about. Main point being experience things, especially new things and new people. -highly recommend to train your body and eat right and sleep right because your brain will produces natural "i am happy about myself" hormones. -you have some control whether a situation is awkward or not Thank you day9! Never had a girlfriend myself and I am 21 years old just started out in college. This video got some points I can start off with. Thank you for taking time to do this you amazing bastard :)
"Go all out. Cause when it goes wrong, it can go real wrong, and that's fucking awesome!" This is a man who knows how to live life to its fullest, and I have to respect that.
Im in favor for making this a series, Not strictly dating but a life discussion. I feel like Sean has alot of help to offer people like me who are just bad at being social and communicating with others.
+SpinoJames You must be a time traveler from the past! Welcome to 2015. Day[9] hasn't made a Starcraft video in a few years. Sorry. :( Also, we didn't get those hoverboards either.
Best dating advice I got from this show: Get a cat. But no really as much as some of these answers seem like common sense sometimes we focus so much on our specific situations that we tend to overthink stuff like this. Then we think, think some more while no progress is being made then we think why we aren't having any progress and we think some more. Break that cycle, ask him/her out, don't fear the rejection and if you don't want things to be awkward then don't make them awkward.
Basically, you rush or you meta. I prefer rushing. You show your hand right away, and if you are prepared, you can handle the response. If you get beaten this way, you were probably outplayed from the start, and had no chance of a victory. If you choose to meta, you will have to gamble. You need to be careful with your approaches, because eventually, there will probably be a tank that you didn't spot, on a siege mode, that will just crush you. There is also a build where you fake meta but actually rush, but this is mostly used by cheaters.
Jimmy Squiky Macro is great if you employ many workers and especially if you have the funds to fly to a remote island, but for the most of us, it's rush or meta.
Day9, thanks to this video a friend sent me I got the courage to ask out one of my best friends for the last 6 years on New Year's Day. Our first date is this Saturday! Thank you for being such a positive inspiration and helping me take this giant leap of faith!
The advice at 29:57 is so solid. I've had depression for the last 4 years, recently lost over 150lbs after not leaving the house for years and spoke to nobody except my mum rarely. Now that i'm getting out and about again i'm finding that my conversation skills are complete SHIT. But I never really thought about how easy it COULD be if I just do what you say. It sounds so obvious now but I honestly didn't think of it that way.
+Josh Teixeira Last night I met a girl. She said, "Hello." I said, "Greetings, traveller." Then she hit me in the face with a fireball. It was pretty romantic.
He taught Starcraft and did analysis for 3 or 4 years. Teaching is teaching. If you practice teaching anything, you'll learn to convey your thoughts in a more interesting and concise way over time which is what happened for Day[9]. You don't just do something like that for years and not get better at it.
I can't believe how much awesome you are. Even though your answers are comedic in nature - they are extremely helpful and truthful at the same time. A truly amazing person. You make my day better.
10:00 this topic is very important. You are not responsible for how someone else feels. You can be a stimulus but never the cause. Nonviolent Communication is what Sean was talking about. This is the best book ive ever read when it comes to dealing with human beings in general. I think Sean probably has read this book or at least the topic of NVC.
3 years after uploading this, this is still really good advice. Talking about the fact you should be able to say "no" for whatever reason once in a time. I've had lots of ppl guilt tripping me for saying no to something while I owe them nothing, to the point I felt really terrible when I wanted to say no. If you get to that point that you feel terrible to say no to someone, you have to realize what is happening and then (maybe the next time if it's to late to say no) you have to keep your ground and tell them no even if it feels shitty. After that you will feel great for standing up for yourself and you will have grown as a person
This is the first video of yours I've ever watched and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the way you think about what you would say before you say it and they way you choose to communicate with others.
Day9 you made my day with this video. lately I haven't been feeling good due to the issues of going back to school. But your videos really make me happy, and I am forever grateful for that. This one in particular helped me a lot. Thank you.
Holy shit Day9 Dating Advice LOL I've been watching Sean for like 5 years. I feel like this should've happened so long ago. Especially when he first told us about Felicity.
+8thlvlMage I caught all the times he talked about dating it's just it was always incidental. He didnt really stop and say "OK Guys today is dating advice send questions." It was more "There was a girl I knew, we'll call her Felicity..."
+djuraster He does indeed. I come from some feminists/anti-feminists channels and the level of sexual/emotional illiteracy is astonishing. Day9 rocks! I would much appreciate hist take on feminism.
"You expect the agony to be far worst and it just never really is." Thanks Day9. Just the words I needed to hear since I currently find myself in this situation.
Have to go into work in five hours but I couldn't stop watching. Great advice all round. The #1 key to dating is conversation. A person that's great fun to talk to will always be at least a little sexy. The #1 key to conversation is: get them to talk about themselves. The #2 key to conversation is: talk about yourself only as it relates to things other people find interesting. Don't talk about your obscure obsession with dolls, unless it relates to something they care about. Have things that you can talk about that people will relate to.
4:30 "All you have to do in life is keep putting yourself in incredibly brave, heartbreaking situations and learn to have great coping mechanisms." ~Day[9] I feel like this should be emblazoned on a shirt or mounted on a wall.
I've just been binging on your highlights while I play overwatch recently and I'm sure you hear this all the time but you just have such a way with words. Your story telling abilities are amazing, definitely not something everyone has. Solid advice too, as someone in a similar age group I can really relate to a lot of things you go back to in your life and talk about. Just really entertaining stuff, thanks a lot. Day 9 talk show when?
Considering Day 9' body is squared with us for the duration of this entire episode, I need to ask How many people can feel the weight of his aura through the screen?
I miss these videos, I know you still do them Sean but not as regularly as you used to, or at least that's how it feels to me. I've re-watched your previous Day9 Story Time videos so many times already.
On the second question, I'm not sure I agree with the idea that you should always just be able to say no to everything and not have it be a big deal. If I call my boyfriend to pick me up at work and he says, "I can't because [an actual reason]", I wouldn't be angry at him for that. But if he says something along the lines of "Eh, I don't want to, rather watch netflix or take a nap", yeah, I'd be pissed. Personally, I count on my significant other to fulfill the reasonable needs that I have. And if they can do that but simply don't want to, then maybe they don't really want to be in a relationship with me.
Day[9] just demonstrated the straight up confidence and boldness you acquire when you're having a good hair day and da acne starts clearing up. You go boy!
I like all your videos but I LOVE the videos where you're just talking to us about whatever. Whether it's giving advice, reading fanfiction or telling us about something in your past. Your storytelling skills are highly effective, good sir. If you and sw00zie ever did a collab telling a story together it would be the most amazing shit. Have a great weekend!
I'm not sure I agree with the "She can't be mad at you for not picking her up" thing. If it's a one-off thing, sure, but I've had friends who do this kind of thing all the time, the kind of thing where you could literally have just been mugged and stranded in the middle of the woods and you ask a friend to pick you up and they're like "Nah, I'm watching a movie". Of course they have a right to say no, but it's still a pretty shitty thing to do if you know they really need your help and you basically prioritise a video game over them. If this kind of thing happens fairly often, it can easily cause a person to feel like the other person doesn't really care about them.
Yeah, asking a girl out on a date. She says: "Let's be friends." I answer: " Ok, then." On the same day I got ambushed by more then ten guys and awake two days later in a hospital with a broken arm, broken leg and an injured rib. So apparently she didn't even wanted to be friends and I would've accepted that, if she had told me from the start.
Day9, you are a fucking genius. And I love how optimistic you are about the whole world and about people. That's really rare and inspiring. You deserve the kisses from Sheriff!
How to ask a girl out: "We have been friends for a while, and I think you are really pretty. I want to take you out to dinner this friday. KATABOOOOM!!!" Simple - Shean.
This video is great. You are good at this (giving relationship advice). I really liked the point you made in response to the question from Justinian. People should not be making demands of you. If they are, and expecting you to comply, then there's something wrong with the relationship. Unless it's a master/slave relationship, and the slave likes it that way.
Also im 100% with you when it comes to age differences. Lets compare a 28 year old to a 19 year old. The 19 is most likely in school, most likely lives with his/her parents cant legally drink (in the US). The 28 year old. Has probably worked for atleast 5+ years. May even gotten a promotion. He/She has done alot of things they've wanted to do in life that costs money and requires saving such a traveling. The life experiences are incredibly different. Also maturity is a thing. Surely theres 19 year olds who act older and more mature. But even they tend to have some tendencies that remind you of a 19 year old. As someone who's closing in on 30 and didnt expect the years to go buy so fast. If an 18 year old talked to me about their life experiences. It'd be basicly what I had done in the first year of working. It's almost like trying to have a deep conversation with a 5 year old. They understand what you're saying somewhat, but they dont grasp the full thing.
14:30 careful with that one, I have tried that myself, timing is key, if u "change subject" trying to find the source of the real problem/irritation that might annoy the girl, whom right at that time will be upset with you, it will be a dead end she will be too pissed to think that far. Bring it up later when she has calmed down, timing is key. gl out there
+JungerNych Justinian here, I sent the Q to Day9 three days after our initial fight. We hadn't spoken since that day. Day9 seems right in that there are other stuff troubling her, but she seems a bit complicated at times. Seems she didnt get mad at me for not picking her up, but it was my tone when I tried helping her find someone to pick her up. But hey, try getting in touch with some1 while playing three tables of poker at the same time. I am not an amazing multitasker. Anyway, we worked things out and yes, we are still together.
Sean is the most romantic man I know! Felicity is a lucky woman! :) (Thanks for that video yesterday Sean! I've been MIA for a long while because of moving and tiredness and a bunch of other things, but I miss watching you live and the Day[9] chat! I'll come back, don't know exactly when, but I'll do for sure! dayHeart )
Never really had issues with women, but I find it very interesting how similar you and I view things like this. I think people get to caught up on being rejected. it's part of life. You'll apply for ALOT of jobs and they probably wont even reach out to tell you, you didnt get the job. Thats life, so just move on. No need to harp up on things that's in the past. I believe a mindset like this allows you to really move on quicker with things. Even really hard things like losing a loved one. The fact of the matter is you're in "this" situation now. You can either sit back and feel sorry for yourself which changes nothing or you can look to move on and find joy again.
I didn't know guys had such a hard time asking a girl out. Might ask someone I like on a date instead of hoping they will from now on. Fear of rejection is a pretty annoying thing to try and get past, though, plus it seems nearly everyone I know is already in a relationship @_@ As usual Day9, thanks, you never fail to cheer me up
A lot of this is just simple human interaction. Most people just don't have balls and care about failure. My entire childhood I was physically and verbally abused I couldn't possibly have been any worse emotionally as a kid. Being told "no" by a woman is literally the easiest thing to deal with and a joke compared to this. And you know what? Out of the 8 girls I've asked out... None said no. Eventually we grew apart romantically and stayed friends but I've never had a really bad relationship. Why? Because women are humans too with their own thoughts on things and if you actually care you listen and get over the loss of a romantic partner. Also that dick picture thing, it worked on a girl i dated but she already knew what it looked like. She asked me for a picture of a fish I had caught because I was talking about it so I whipped it out and sent the picture with the fish and she just called me immediately and said "it's so big, the fish is nice too".. She was a good sport. We dated for about 2 years before just going seperate ways in life.
Holy fuck sean, I could listen to you talk about literally anything for the rest of my life.
me too,Sean talking or ROIT
Trying to gather the key points regarding people that are not in a / have never been in a relationship.
-don't be afraid of pain and rejection
-you learn to handle rejections through trail and error
-put yourself in "dangerous" situations
-be honest and forward about your intentions towards a person (in a controlled manner ofc) but still being confident
-learn more about yourself by going to events etc. Something you know you will enjoy or either being curious about. Main point being experience things, especially new things and new people.
-highly recommend to train your body and eat right and sleep right because your brain will produces natural "i am happy about myself" hormones.
-you have some control whether a situation is awkward or not
Thank you day9! Never had a girlfriend myself and I am 21 years old just started out in college. This video got some points I can start off with. Thank you for taking time to do this you amazing bastard :)
Four years on, I would love an update...

Came here for starcraft videos, now I'm getting dating advice, not sure how it happened but I am not complaining
+SpinoJames You must be a time traveler from the past! Welcome to 2015. Day[9] hasn't made a Starcraft video in a few years. Sorry. :( Also, we didn't get those hoverboards either.

Break that cycle, ask him/her out, don't fear the rejection and if you don't want things to be awkward then don't make them awkward.
+Lawrence Salcido I think the bottom line of don't think about it is very important. Took me some years to learn it out.
Cat makes for excellent conversation.
This is exactly right.
+Lawrence Salcido For some people they might know something, but hearing it from someone else may help a lot. :)
Basically, you rush or you meta. I prefer rushing. You show your hand right away, and if you are prepared, you can handle the response. Instructions unclear, drove to date in siege tank.
+HiroProtagonest my sides
+Ville Nurmi Ya I got bodied by the siege tank. ;w;
Jimmy Squiky Macro is great if you employ many workers and especially if you have the funds to fly to a remote island, but for the most of us, it's rush or meta.

actually the best morales on UA-cam, the best MTG player, and just generally a great guy. Day9TV
It is pretty much unbelievable that Sean can talk about anything and I would listen him always no matter what the topic is :D
I think I'll just stay a virgin and play Hearthstone kappa.
+Josh Teixeira Last night I met a girl. She said, "Hello." I said, "Greetings, traveller." Then she hit me in the face with a fireball. It was pretty romantic.
Goddamn. I want a relationship like that.
+sckchui you didn't shot her with an arrow in the eye?
+sckchui thats the first time I've laughed so hard to a comment
Josh Teixeira yep, it's not all its cracked up to be, hearthstone is way more exhilarating
I really missed these types of segments. You have a very "teacher" like aura about you
+Gaifreak He has a lot of practice from spending 3 or 4 years, you know, teaching. :)
Wait, he was actually a teacher?
He taught Starcraft and did analysis for 3 or 4 years. Teaching is teaching. If you practice teaching anything, you'll learn to convey your thoughts in a more interesting and concise way over time which is what happened for Day[9]. You don't just do something like that for years and not get better at it.
+Gaifreak He was a grad student. Almost all grad students act as professors to pay their way through college.
Gaifreak Even his jokes sound like a math professor's.
I can't believe how much awesome you are. Even though your answers are comedic in nature - they are extremely helpful and truthful at the same time. A truly amazing person. You make my day better.

day9 story time! I missed these and stories of kirs... I mean Felicity
Kirsten??

Holy shit Day9 Dating Advice LOL I've been watching Sean for like 5 years. I feel like this should've happened so long ago. Especially when he first told us about Felicity.
+Thabiso Mhlaba There have been some dating-related stories already, though. Love the one where he describes why he loves being dumped.
+Thabiso Mhlaba How did you miss all the times he talked about dating?? Watch his Funday Mondays and Storytimes to get caught up.
+Thabiso Mhlaba g.g.
+8thlvlMage I caught all the times he talked about dating it's just it was always incidental. He didnt really stop and say "OK Guys today is dating advice send questions." It was more "There was a girl I knew, we'll call her Felicity..."
+Stijn van Drongelen why does he love being dumped? Episode name?
Sean is the uncle we all never had. God bless Day9
Why does this have to be a special, I want weekly advice, just love hearing you talk about haha. You're way to funny day9
I`ve been dating girls for 20 years...Day9 knows his shit...I approve
+djuraster but you dated several girls, and that implies it didnt work out
+djuraster He does indeed. I come from some feminists/anti-feminists channels and the level of sexual/emotional illiteracy is astonishing. Day9 rocks! I would much appreciate hist take on feminism.
+Enachescu Dumitru Everyone can appreciate DayNyan :)
+Soju69jinro Yeah, it's like buying a sofa. Gotta try a few out before you find the right one.
+Kael This is dating advise, being promiscuous is a whole nother story. 20:30 Day9 talks about you :))
There's always been that first time you came to this channel to watch Starcraft 2 and after that you came back to watch Sean talk. the Memories :D
DAY9 DATING EPISODE 2 PLEASE!
The community Demands it!
+1 for being frank with people. I really wish we could all internalize that advice.
4:30 "All you have to do in life is keep putting yourself in incredibly brave, heartbreaking situations and learn to have great coping mechanisms." ~Day[9]
I feel like this should be emblazoned on a shirt or mounted on a wall.
God I love listening to Day9 talk, I hope he does another ones of these because they're so much fun to listen too
Really enjoyed this. I would listen to Day9 chat about any topic
Hey Sean, I've been watching your channel for awhile now and I think you're great. Wanna go on a date sometime?
Considering Day 9' body is squared with us for the duration of this entire episode, I need to ask
How many people can feel the weight of his aura through the screen?
This is quite weird to see on a gaming chanel. I quite like it.
+Anders Lundman We need this.
+Anders Lundman Let's be honest, its probably the best place for it anyway
+StuxiTV Are those colors behind your 'S' what i think they mean?
Kenny Kendall What do you think they mean?
StuxiTV
Anarcho-Mutualism
Really nice, Day9! It'd be nice if you could include the twitch chat on the screen next time, I love seeing peoples reactions to your brain. :P
+Wagasez Noplz. Idon't want to see cancer in human chat form.
I miss these videos, I know you still do them Sean but not as regularly as you used to, or at least that's how it feels to me. I've re-watched your previous Day9 Story Time videos so many times already.
Rewatching this years later and realizing so many of my interpersonal skills come from Sean.
Listening to Day9 on dating advice. What am I doing with my life?
Improving it.
Listening to Day9s advice on dating*
You should absolutely make more videos like this. I love it.
Today in my recommended videos I see, "Dating Advice. Recommended for you." Ok, fine, UA-cam. I get it.
LOL
You're simply great, Sean. Much love. thank you for being you, this helped me a lot
Yey, even more Dayjay talking without games in the background!
On the second question, I'm not sure I agree with the idea that you should always just be able to say no to everything and not have it be a big deal. If I call my boyfriend to pick me up at work and he says, "I can't because [an actual reason]", I wouldn't be angry at him for that. Day[9] just demonstrated the straight up confidence and boldness you acquire when you're having a good hair day and da acne starts clearing up. You go boy!
REALLY clutch advice there in the last minute of the show.
I think you are amazing!
I'm glad that I find this channel 😊
I'm surprised the name 'Felicity' wasn't used once.
Funniest dating advice I've ever gotten, and shockingly it even made sense.
Clearly you studied the meta to improve your game.
This was just awesome, would absolutely love to see more of this :D
Yeah, asking a girl out on a date. She says: "Let's be friends." I answer: " Ok, then." On the same day I got ambushed by more then ten guys and awake two days later in a hospital with a broken arm, broken leg and an injured rib. So apparently she didn't even wanted to be friends and I would've accepted that, if she had told me from the start.
I want Day9 story time back!
16:43 got my like
Day9, you are a fucking genius. And I love how optimistic you are about the whole world and about people. That's really rare and inspiring. You deserve the kisses from Sheriff!
Thank you day9 for being an awesome person and gracing the world with your great communication skills.
Day9.....you're the damn man, love everything you do, keep it up man!
Hey, in the future can you up the volume you were pretty low compared to other youtube videos.
Awesome video, love your content :)
I'll always be you're fan Sean, it's because of videos like these.
Day[9] you are simply the most fantastic human alive
How to ask a girl out: "We have been friends for a while, and I think you are really pretty. I want to take you out to dinner this friday. KATABOOOOM!!!" Simple - Shean.
+1 for "It's only awkward as you want it to be." I was once given such profound advice...
Sean could teach a master class on almost any subject and I would pay for it
Great episode overal, absolute best part at 34:50 !
whenever i'm sad i look for these videos about how positive sean and his followers are. you're all cutiepies
Please make this a weekly segment
Ok, so this needs to be a series
There are some very excellent pieces of advice here, I would love to see this segment again sometime! Date[9].
This is such a wholesome, useful video
I wouldn't mind more segments like these
Sean you should write a book. Day9's advice for health and happiness. Something like that. Some pretty sage advice being given out here.
"... or brutality." OK, it's been a few years since I tuned in to Day[9], but I'm glad to be back.
bookmarked that video. Whenever I have a date I will watch this video before!
Was awesome how you ended this video. Great advice.
Best video ever, hands down.
Also im 100% with you when it comes to age differences. Lets compare a 28 year old to a 19 year old.
+Daniel Eik that is great to hear^^ I hope everything will continue to work out!
please do more of these videos!
i usually just open with, "Im older and smoke and likes punk music and your dad will hate me" that usually works
he actually did it the absolute madman

no time for dates, almost at 500 wins for druid
Sean is the most romantic man I know! Felicity is a lucky woman! :)
(Thanks for that video yesterday Sean!
I've been MIA for a long while because of moving and tiredness and a bunch of other things, but I miss watching you live and the Day[9] chat! I'll come back, don't know exactly when, but I'll do for sure! dayHeart )
Magazines have tried to do this for decades. Finally someone succeeds.
he could probably make a living just streaming his thoughts on everything
Great show, made my day xD
Keep it up!
that's actually the best show on the interwebs.
You are great at this!!
I'm pretty late to the party but the advice about breaking up is what I needed. Thanks.
Love your pragmatic advice!
Shawn are you gonna make videos about SC2 LotV? I miss your SC2 vidoes :(
I didn't know guys had such a hard time asking a girl out. Might ask someone I like on a date instead of hoping they will from now on. Fear of rejection is a pretty annoying thing to try and get past, though, plus it seems nearly everyone I know is already in a relationship @_@
As usual Day9, thanks, you never fail to cheer me up
If this is the closest thing to a Day[9] long, lost vlog, ill take it!
God, Sean, you're always the best love doctor in the universe!
