      I am not a fan of the faux brick tile that you chose. Still trying to figure out why you started in the “middle”. I always thought that you start in the problem areas (areas with difficult cover issues)with a job like that. I love the blue and white (delft) touches that you added and the white inside your strawberry display. I think that I might have left the outside if that was an option. All and all it’s a nice transformation. Wish your husband liked it. 😊

      @@CanterburyCottage I think German Schmearing your backsplash might help to coordinate the counter and “brick” look. Real schmearing with mortar, not paint. It’s super fun! It would need to be sealed (with a matte sealer) since it would be in your kitchen. I think you’d get the brick look with a more cohesive look. Less movement but lots of fun texture…
      Just an idea.

    • @megcreates2.0
      @megcreates2.0 Рік тому +1

      I see why the clash. The red brick color doesn’t match the colors in the counter tops.
      The tin tile could be to busy & not match the handles. No offense @teajay 💕
      I like the German spear but make sure you get the color mortar that matches in the color of your cabinets not stark white.
      Or sense it’s such a small area put up actual real tile the a matte finish & the dark color of your other cabinets it would give you that little moody color your looking for.
      Do a lil more research if your wanting to change it but if you like it than leave it 😊

    • @teejay1650
      @teejay1650 Рік тому

      @@megcreates2.0 I agree. If she likes it then she should leave it. It’s her kitchen. The tin tiles wouldn’t be too busy if a very plain one were picked out. They could be painted to match the counter and add a cohesive flow to the appearance.
      Concerning the German Schmear… I did white (not sure it comes in shades other than white and gray). The more water you add the softer the white. It’s work but so fun! I did my floor to ceiling fireplace and did a fake brick wall that I put up in my master bedroom. It’s not for everyone but I love it!

    I think the clash between the backsplash and countertop comes from the fact that the backsplash is a cool color and the counter is very warm.
    If you have any leftover bscksplzsh tiles I suggest using one as a sample board. Use an assortment paints/stains in warm tones and paint the sample board. Once you have a pleasing combination you can paint the backsplash itself.

      Just a few ideas...
      Marble countertops might be nice against the brick, which can be faux marble. Or butcher-block, which can be faux, might be nice against the brick. I know you have butcher-block on your Island, though. Oh, I think copper might be very nice against the brick, especially with your copper handles...or are they brass? Either way, you might be able to do some kind of metal overlay, or simulated metal. I like the brick backsplash very much but if you decided to change it...I, actually, think a blue & white tile backsplash would be very nice, in keeping with your decor. Or old fashioned pressed tin, painted white and distressed a bit, which can be faux, too, would look very nice. I just bought some faux tin tiles for my backsplash. I'll put stained beadboard behind my stove, though, to match my ceiling. Well, whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be as lovely as everything you do. I just love your new kitchen and the rest of your lovely home. You always inspire me. Wishing you all the best. 💕

    Beautiful Sherry! I think you should take the brick one step further and do the inside backs of your built-in china hutch. Especially since you have so many white based items to shine in there now, they would really stand out and it would look like you have a real brick wall behind it. I do agree that on video the colors look a tad off, but that could just be your camera. I’m really happy for you, I painted my cabinets white a few years ago and I love being in there now, even cooking is more enjoyable. Have you considered painting the brick? That might work, especially since you worked so hard to install it.

If i had it my way, I'd have totally different countertops, but it's a lot of money. I do know that if i ever get to change them, whatever i get will be a solid color because i feel it's much easier that way. They were in our house when we moved in and if i could change them right now, i would. The cabinets and backsplash look great to me. But with the colors in that particular granite pattern, it's difficult to find something that looks good with it i feel. I have that same struggle in my kitchen. If i had it my way, i would have completely different countertops. Unfortunately, it means money to change those. I absolutely agree with the two tones - the bone and the blue, it looks so fresh & clean. The only thing I’m not so sure about is the stick on “brick” splash back. I would have left the one you had as it was already lovely. I also adore the colour of the library. I have an “old” American oak extendable table and 8 carved chairs plus a glass fronted dresser( I’m in NZ and bought them from a older lady who was downsizing, whose mother bought them from an American family who came here from Montana in the 1970s) I’m seriously thinking of refurbishing the legs and base in that blue, repolishing the oak back to pale oak, and then repainting all the chairs in that gorgeous dark blue as well. The dresser would look good in bone OR dark blue. At the moment it is that strange pale toffee brown that was so beloved in the 1970s. My problem is that I can’t find anything I like better under $20k, and it’s fantastic as it goes from 6 to 12 - even 14 at a pinch, with the extra extensions. I would very much like the opinions of your contributors, as my husband wants it just polished. Nope. We are moving back to our home by the beach in 4 years hence the blues. Also, is it something you can do yourself OR do you get it done professionally? Thanks. By the way, LOVED the video❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊

    *Sherry, the overall kitchen makeover is fabulous❣️ Having said that, I'm with your husband on the faux brick backsplash. 😀 The seams need to be caulked to look more realistic. However, the granite countertops have a yellow undertone and the faux brick tiles have a pink undertone and they totally clash; sorry‼️😔 White subway tiles may have been a better choice - and they could have been stuck and grouted right over the top of the smaller yellowish tiles. However, since you have your heart set on red brick, you may want to do what Sarah, on the "Sarah's October Home Channel" did in her bedroom and also on one wall of her bathroom makeover in her home. All of the details are on her channel. She bought thin pieces of brick from some home improvement store and glued them down and used real mortor in between the seams and German Shmeer finished them. THEY LOOK LIKE REAL BRICK WALLS❣️🥰🙈🙉 I think even your husband would be pleased - and then you wouldn't have the huge expense of replacing your granite countertops ‼️🤣*
    *What are your thoughts on this idea⁉️ You can let me know once you have watched the videos on her channel, Sherry. 😊*

    Sherry - your new kitchen is beautiful! The decor is, as usual, simply perfect. The white cabinetry is stunning. The cabinet colors look great. I like the two tone look a lot! As you asked for input on the backsplash, and as it is a personal preference of mine not to have tonal contrast, I found the backsplash too cool for the warm counter. Just for reference, my monitor was not picking up a lot of blue in the lower cabinets, although, I do see the adjoining room’s cabinets as blue. They appeared more black than blue to me. (Of course my cataract surgery assessment isn’t until this Wednesday, so “grain of salt”!). That said, I was seeing yellow in the counter when it might actually be cream! The blue and white accents look great, but then, so do the red and white. I know there are those who oppose painting wood, but , for me, the change in the overall atmosphere of the entire kitchen is well worth it!
