Wm. Morris Inspired Furniture Flip/DIY Thrift Store Transformation!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 лип 2024
- In this video, I take on a furniture flip project inspired by the timeless designs of William Morris. Using a vintage piece of furniture I found at a thrift store, I transform it into a stunning and unique piece that perfectly captures Morris's signature style. Through a combination of paint and peel and stick wallpaper, I give this piece new life while still honoring its vintage charm. Whether you're a fan of William Morris's designs or simply looking for inspiration for your next furniture makeover, this video has something for you. I’ll even show you how to replicate and replace wood details that are missing. I made a silicone mold to replicate a large wood chunk missing from the furniture foot! So join me as I turn a forgotten piece of furniture into a beautiful work of art.

I should have mentioned that if you wallpaper the top as I did, you will probably want to seal it because wallpaper will scratch if you move something sharp across it. If I was using this as a coffee bar, I would definitely have sealed the top.
Or get a piece of 1/4 glass. Easier to keep clean.
What would you suggest for sealing the top of my Nana’s desk.
@@lindabarrington5400 A piece of 1/4 glass with polished edges. You can get a piece cut at any glass company. If you use a liquid it will pull the paper up, unless it is painted and you can use a spray sealer.
Thank you Vicki for your advice, but the desk is a security desk and I’m afraid when I close it up it would cause problems.
@@lindabarrington5400 Ok then, Linda a good brush on sealer. Just make sure you have the appropriate brush. Or you can take it outside in warmer weather and use sealer in a spray. Just make sure the wind is not blowing, because it was attract dust. No matter which method you use, make sure the desk is clean and washed. Check with a good paint store for the best product and advice how to use it.
I love how the dresser turned out! The bird and strawberries were a very nice touch! Thanks for your inspiration!!

The buffet turned out so good. You are so skilled at refurbishing furniture and every thing you do. It was very clever how you repaired the foot of it.
Watching this made me realize how lazy I am. I would’ve painted it and called it a day.
🤣 Oh, the wallpaper didn’t take long at all!
@@CanterburyCottage riiight 😂. It looks great though 👍🏻
Same here! I admired all the work and then felt empathically tired by the end of the video!

Wow. I am awed at how you repaired the broken foot on the dresser. It looks beautiful. I love William Morris designs, too.
My favourite wallpaper designer is William Morris. You've created a beautiful piece of furniture with his wallpaper.
Great job on this transformation, it looks gorgeous, and suits your space beautifully. I too love William Morris designs, very pretty colours and patterns. TFS
Thank you so much, Annie! I really really want some Wm. Morris fabric to make curtains-so, you’ll probably see them in an upcoming video! 😀
What a lovely transformation! The addition of small light bars in the backs of the open shelving might be pretty! Love the William Morris design wallpaper!
How beautiful! The brass handles were amazing! Again, you outdid yourself ❤
Thank you so much! I normally like “aged” brass, but this time I loved the clean, shiny brass. I think because the handles were so dirty that they didn’t even look like real brass!
Sherry, all I can say is WOW< WOW< WOW! ! What a stunning treasure done to perfection ! Sherry, you are amazing !
Thank you so much! That is so kind of you to say!☺️
Stunning-the dresser & the chair vignette! 💞

I love how this turned out altogether. As a matter of fact I love all of your room, well all of your house that I have seen actually. There has never been one thing that I’ve seen you do that I didn’t love how it turned out. Thank you for your inspiration, as always, it was in abundance.

The dresser transformation is simply lovely. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Katherine! 😊
Brilliant! First-rate job reconstructing that foot, and great idea to add the strawberry thief between the front drawers.
Thanks, Gina! I’m so glad you like it!
This may not be the case, but after I commented on the strawberry shorts in the store post that reminded me of William Morris's Strawberry Thief, Id like to think we inspired each other!!😆 No matter, I love that you love W.M. and cant wait to see more!!!!!
This piece is absolutely brilliant.
Thank you so much. This is exactly what I want to do to an old nightstand from my parents first bedroom set. The got married in 1043. And it originally was limed oak. My mom painted the whole set with the drawers different lord in the 60’, then stripped them and stained them stained them a med toned brown in the 80’s. I got one night stand when they moved to Arizona in the 90’s. The lady who bought their home wanted to buy all the furniture, which was good for them to not move all that they had. It is now stained and I wanted to keep it in my front room as a ketch all. You know driving gloves etc. this is perfect as I already have cork placemats in the strawberry thief designe and a couple of pillows with a William Morris design on them. Seeing this jut made my day so thank you again.
Sherry, the “ ugly duckling dresser” transformed into a “beautiful swan credenza” in your hands! Im going to use your tip on making my own silicon mould to repair the top corner on my curio cabinet. Looking forward to your next creative instalment!☺️👏🏼🇨🇦
The divided bird is really the crowning touch. Nicely done!
""Strawberry Thief" is my absolute favorite W. Morris wallpaper pattern. I love how your piece turned out. Very clever to make a mould for the foot of the leg! You are amazing.
Thanks so much! 😊 I think Strawberry Thief is such an adorable pattern. I really want some Wm. Morris fabric for curtains, now. (Look for them in an upcoming video!)
Good afternoon Sherry! Love the buffet transformation using paint and the wallpaper! It’s gorgeous! You still have display shelves plus some storage and I love the fact that it has legs which lets light shine underneath! Thank you for sharing! 💕
Thank you so much 🤗 I also have some wood left from those drawers. I’m already brainstorming some things I could make with it!
Ok..that turned out just beautiful and I am beyond excited to learn the silicone cornstarch trick, I had no clue!
Thank you, Melissa! 😊 Glad it was helpful! Yes, you can make silicone molds for lots of things using random items from around the house, too. I’ll try to make another mold in next week’s video, so you can see what I mean.
@@CanterburyCottage I’m looking forward to seeing more! :)

Thank you so much, Bren! I am so very glad that I can share ideas with you! You are quite talented yourself! 😊

Sherry, this buffet is SO gorgeous! I absolutely love it.❤🍓🍓🐦❤
Thank you so much, Vicki! I’m so glad you like it!😊
So feminine and beautiful! Your so talented! Awesome job on your chair and the dresser!
Thank you so much, Landon! 😊
The dresser turned out beautifully!!!
Stunning! And now I have a new obsession, William Morris designs!
WOW! I didn't know William Morris designs could be found in wallpaper. What a beautiful piece. I fell in love with his designs when I visited England. I bought a pillow cover with The Strawberry Thief from the British Museum as a gift for my niece.
Oh, Denise! I bet that pillow is gorgeous!!! When I went to London, I didn’t make it to the museum (which I really regret). We just tried to do too much in a short amount of time. I am looking at Wm. Morris fabrics for some other projects (but it is quite expensive)!
That buffet is gorgeous. But so is that basket you put together beside it.❤
Thank you so much, Terri! 😊
As always, awesome job! Love the William Morris addition to the dresser.
Thanks so much, Pam!
Well done, Sherry! And in addition to your new buffet, I also love the spring vignette on the chair. Very interesting and coordinated.
Thanks so much, Donna!😊
I need a buffet in my dining room and have had grand dreams of doing just what you did rather than buying a brand new piece of furniture. Well, now I have no excuses. I'm officially on the hunt for an old dresser. Kudos to you!
You continue to amaze me with your creative ideas and execution of those !
Thank you very much! What a kind thing to say! 😊
I’m quite impressed with this makeover. And I really like Wm. Morris style. I have an old oak wall clock (non-working) that I would like to upcycle, but am stumped. Enjoyed this
Thank you, Marlys! You might try removing the pendulums and glass from the lower portion in front of the pendulums and put either faux greenery or a real plant in that spot-something droopy that would hang down.
I do love brass hardware. So glad you kept them.
A very beautiful transformation. I love the print and the addition of the bird and strawberries.
That William Morris print is so pretty! I absolutely love what you did. Absolutely lovely.
WOW, the repair of the front leg of the chest - impressive and also how you incorporated the bird on the top two drawers very creative!
I love it Sherry, William Morris, your remodel so it works for your kitchen, great work.
I love William and Morris also.
Thank you for the silicone mold tip. Omg, that was amazing! I am definitely keeping it in mind.
You are so welcome! I wasn’t sure if it was going to work because the missing piece was so large. It works perfectly on smaller details!
Wow! That's was a big change and it turned out beautiful!
Thank you, Gail! 😊
Wow! You're a superstar! This is so awesome. I love it. And, what brilliant inspiration for a project I've been wanting to tackle. Thank you, lady! ❤
Oh, Kimberly, I’m so glad you liked it! 😊
Seriously another project that just blows me away. I love the quality of your work.
I absolutely love William Morris prints!! It turned out beautifully!
I’m so glad. I’m looking for some Wm. Morris fabric to make some curtains-look for them in an upcoming video!
@@CanterburyCottage You are making me regret leaving 2 Wm Morris layer cakes at the quilt shop.
Sherry, you are incredible ! What an imagination you have. Your pieces are always so unique , playful and fresh. Thanks , your videos never fail to astound, amuse and inspire me. The bunny basket is to die for.
centering the bird was brilliant! as is all you transform.
That is so kind of you to say, Lin! Thank you!
2 minutes in and already thumbs up for the silicone clay!!!

(I'm serious.)
What a wonderful project -- both your work and your inspiration are beautiful! I just love William Morris's style, so this piece really resonated with me. Every detail is a testament to your good taste and skill. You turned an ugly duckling past its prime into a beautiful swan! 💗
Wow! One of my fav patterns of William Morris. You have done a magnificent transformation. Your creativity is a gift! The Strawberry Thief on the front drawers is everything!!
Good afternoon, Sherry! This transformation is simply exquisite. The Wm. Morris paper adds a perfect touch of whimsy to the antique dresser/ buffet. The classic strawberry theme is now back in vogue. I must say that your creativity never ceases to amaze. Will there be a Spring home tour in the works? 🙏 Thank you for sharing and Happy Spring, Bobbie. ❤🍓❤🍓
Good afternoon, Bobbie! I’m so glad you liked the revamped dresser. Thank you for those sweet comments! Even my husband commented on how much he liked the transformation. I will certainly think about a spring home tour (but first I have to get everything decorated for spring😜!)
I liked your furniture flip! I wish I had your ambition--and skill! Thank you for your weekly entertainment!
Sherry, once again a home run. I love William Morris wallpaper
Oh, thank you, Rose! I really want some Wm. Morris fabric for curtains now! 😀

Love the dresser, turned out so pretty. The wallpaper is beautiful. The bird and strawberries were a nice touch 🍓The chair is sooooo darling, love it. Thank you...
I loved the William Morris Strawberry Thief design! Shortly after watching the video, I came across a Wm. Morris Strawberry Thief teapot in a British-style tea house/store and purchased it immediately!
