can you talk about the difference of play fighting and then your rats hurting each other and being malicious???? Love your channel ❤
If there is no blood then there's no foul. When rats are actually fighting they will draw blood, but when rats are just playing they won't

When they fight, it looks alot more brutal than when they play. Usually when they fight, it also draws blood

I'm envious of everyone with their critter nation cages, I wish I could get one here, but we don't have them in Australia. It would cost me over $600 to buy a single and have it shipped here. I love the idea of the big doors and horizontal bars. I'm going to have to use a bird cage I think.
Im very very late and I dont know if you need this knowledge! While it's hard for us to get critter nation cages here, we have I think it's called ferret kingdom(?) which are almost the same! They're relatively on the pricey side, but definitely cheaper than getting critter nations shipped :))
Your forgot to mention with the cage at 7:06, looks like it has an alfalfa chew in the bottom left :) which is bad for the lil cuties
No, Alfalfa is completely safe for rats so long as it dosnt have sweetners binding it 🙂

Hi, my friend found your channel when searching for ideas and information on her two mice coco and chanel. She then introduced me to it, as I recently got two baby albino male rats called teddy and peanut. I had a medium sized cage with no bedding in the bottom and wire levels. After watching your videos, I realised what I was doing wrong and have improved. They are currently 10 weeks old and living happily in their brand new cage. I have one of those toys with the beads on the wire but I reserve it for free range. They don't chew it yet but I am concerned about the paint/varnish on it so they can only have it under supervision. It was £1.25 in a charity shop.

I sold my old Prevue 528 Small Animal Cage (about 600 sq in.) and Kaytee 12 in Silent Spinner to someone a couple days ago. When I got there she said she wanted to use it for 3-4 rats. I died inside. I said I used it for a hamster and she said the cage was giant for a hamster. 😭😢😭
@Reptitan People just don’t care about pets that aren’t cats or dogs. Someone will spend $1,000s of dollars to buy a purebred puppy but won’t spend more than $75 on anything else. “Rat cage is $250? Nah I’m going to keep them in a hamster cage, tHey’LL bE FiNe.” In my experience if you correct someone about their animal care, they will deny that they’re wrong, even if you send them articles and articles of information. They get aggressive and show that they’re in denial, like restaurant owners on Kitchen Nightmares. That being said, a few people do come around, and it’s important to inform them without sounding rude (although since you’re right and they’re wrong, they will probably think you are being rude). I hope you told corrected her about the hamster thing and told her to check out UA-cam channels like, well, Emiology (or at least do more research) and that that cage is much too small for a pair of rats, let alone 3 or 4 of them! If she wasn’t the only person interested in the cage, you could’ve said that you’d sell it to someone who is getting a hamster instead of her (if it came to that). If not, just something to consider if you ever sell any other pet supplies. If you have only one person interested then go ahead, but if you have multiple offers it might be a good idea to ask them what they’d use the cage for. Anyway I hope she doesn’t keep any rats in there :o

when i used to have rats, they mainly ignored the cute ropes and toys i gave them. they loved their cardboard boxes though. they would always chew apart their hammocks even if we gave them enough natural wood all through out their cage, so we ended up cutting apart old blankets and jeans instead of sewing everything together.

If there's a little bit of space in the cage it's not automatically bad, they don't HAVE to fill it to the brim to make sure the rats are healthy.
But if you can fill it that’s good! Rats like a busy cage ☺️

Great inspiration for cage cleaning day for my little minchkins. The joys of trying to keep my cages easy to clean while also making them fun for the rats. Having big troubles with URIs at the moment and am now at cleaning the cages and changing hammocks and fleece every day in a desperate attempt to stop the dreaded sneezes

I love this video so far! I have the same cage as shown at 6:30 except I’ve always left the 2 levels in. It looks so much better without the levels and I’m definitely going to try and remove them if I get more rats in the future!
A few weeks ago I finally got my mom to allow me to get rats. I was at school and when i came home i came home to a hamster cage with 1 house and 2 rats in it. I told my mom what was wrong amd she was very understanding. Luckiky i had enough money to go get a critter nation the same day and everythung they needed. I made a vet appointmenr for this week bc they were from the pet store and i wanted to make sure they were healthy. About 4 days ago one of them became very skittish even tho he was a sweetheart usually. I got worried and asked the vet if we could meet up a lil earlier. He said everything was okay and he probably just got scared once and was still building up trust again. 2 days later i found him dead in his sputnik. I was heartbrokem but needed to find a new friend for my rat that seemed okay. I finally found two rats that were perfect. I was going to get them after school. When i came home from school today i found my rat not running towards me when hebheard me. I thought he just didnt hear me so i opened up the cage and looked for him. I found him in one of his hides. He was breathing very heavy and not moving. He died in my arms and i am heartbroken.
I’m so sorry you’ve been through that 😩 you did everything right though and it’s good you worked so quickly to make sure they were in the right setup. Can I ask where your mom got the rats from? That could have played a part in what happened to them and was probably something that couldn’t be prevented by you or a vet 🙁
Emiology she got them from the pet store which is probably the reason they died! I really loved them tho and really want rats again in the near future. My mom won’t let me bc she thinks it’s my fault and that they were stressed because their cage was too big. Do you have any tips? Thank u for replying! I love u and thank u for everything!
Yeah unfortunately pet stores usually sell sick rats.. They usually come from mills :( I hope you are buying your other rats from a good breeder this time

Although most pet shop rats would be harder to tame, I went in today and an employee was letting the rats out the cage. She allowed me to hold them and the rat snuggled up on my shoulder, so cute!
I got my 2 from a feeder bin and while one is still warming up since I only got her a few days ago, the one I got a week and a half earlier is so friendly. I took her because while I was in the back room picking one, she escaped the bin and made a run for freedom so I thought she deserved saving lol

The green tunnel is a rabbit tunnel, its the snugglesafe rabbit tunnel, they click together and you can buy a cube for several of them to click into. Pets at home sells the tunnels and amazon or zooplus sells the tunnel and cube. They're pretty neat my buns love them
I have a 12 inch wheel for my boys but they are dwarf rats, a lot of people don't believe that dwarfs are a thing but i got them from a clean local breeder and they are a lot smaller the standard size so this wheel works well and they use it all the time which tells me they like it and its comfortable!
I have a massive purple tunnel u can get it on chewy and I got mine from pet smart! Luv u em!

Maisie’s Guineapigs syrians tend to be easier(from experience) but all hamsters are different

All of the hammocks in my friends rat cage always end up with holes in them within a week. So I made so many diy hammocks with old pillow cases and I put holes in each corner and zip tied them to the sides and it works perfectly for her girls
I'm getting boy rats for my first time and before iv'e had 3 girls and only had around 5 hideaways. Do you think it's a good idea to add more hammocks and cardboard boxes as well since boys sleep more. I'm a little nervous since im getting the boy rats in around February. Thank you :)

This comments really old, but in the US they’re called space pods not sputniks! If you search space pods on Amazon you should be able to find some in the US that aren’t as expensive!

Please don't ever use Amino. It's a breeding ground for child predators. I'd say it is worse than the livestreaming app Spoon, which could also be a breeding ground for predators, too. There are just not enough restrictions in the app and people can make their OWN "apps" within the app, and can neglect it so easily without setting guidelines.

hi i just bought the feisty ferret cage for my two rats bagel and cream cheese 😂. unfortunately the cage had bar flooring and i was wondering what i can do to cover it to make it safe for my rats. would fleece with an absorbent pad underneath be good?
I think that would be okay, but you might find that the rats will want to do a home makeover and move and/or chew those items. You can also use cardboard to line the floor, which you'll have to swap out for new occasionally because the rats WILL get it dirty and probably chew it.
In my opinion, people make a much bigger deal out of wire floor than they need to. If that's the ONLY wire they're exposed to, they won't get bumble foot. The only potential hazard is maybe getting their foot stuck and causing injury that way, but there are other ways for a rat to injure themselves. (one of my boys has injured his leg/foot 3 times within a year and the only wire I have are on the sides and top of the cage)
With that being said, it doesn't hurt to try to make their home as safe as possible. You might have to try a few options and see what works best for you.

Also, you could try cutting a bathroom mat to fit, just throw it in the washer with vinegar and baking soda when you clean the cage

im trying to make a rat cage from a large bird cage. ill put levels in a XL bird cage and even better its super CHEEP!!! you can get large bird cages off ebey for £20 - £30! i will defenately be making it fun and exiting! :D

I do want to see what you think of my rat cage it’s not super large but I will have a wheel soon and I let them play on my bed for an hour a day. I have 3 girls in my purview pet products 528. It was originally for my two girls but then one died. I have two of these cages I bought two more rats a few months ago then when my girl died her cage mate was in the cage with the two smaller rats. Rip ribben the rat 🐁.
I want to get a couple rats. I’m going to wait until my rescue squirrel gets a new, bigger cage (the cage he is in now is still big, but we want one that is much taller like 6ft tall instead of about 4 ft ish). The cage is very large and it has two large layers. It’d be large enough for many rats though.
