You’re keeping the best bargain to yourself………Ioniq 38kWh. Buy a 3yr old one for 11-12k or 5yr old one for 8-9k.. Batteries still at 100% soh due to buffer, the most efficient EV going. Had a Kona 64 and Ioniq 38 at the same time and drove 300 miles side by side and the Ioniq was 5.6 vs 4.5mi/kWh for Kona. Best used buy around.
True that. Very efficient. I bought a 3year old 38kWh Ioniq over a year ago on a 2020 plate with 23000 miles Paid £14500 which at that time was a good average price. Come to sell it after 1 year and couldn't trade it as a part ex without taking a massive hit. Put it on Motorway and not one bid. ended up losing £5500 in one year of ownership so will not go back to EV ownership.
If you are still thinking about a Zoe go and watch Gary C EV Repairs - it seems the motor bearings on these have been failing since the ZE22 and Renault never fixed the fundamental design flaw in the 40 or 50. Similarly the AC compressors like to fail too, not to mention endless suspension repairs. I loved our ZE22 Zoe to drive - it got me into EVs for comparatively little outlay and risk, but I'd never touch another one with a barge pole.
@Nicolas Raimo - what's your experience of this? I ❤ my Z0E ZE40, but I've had a recurring AC leak for three years running now (under extended warranty, been to Renault Service Centre x3 times) so concerned about the compressor, and also very worried about the motor windings / bearings horror stories! 😮
@Adeleisha personally I'd get rid ASAP especially if you have a battery lease. It's gets messy quickly if you are faced with an uneconomical repair bill on a vehicle with a leased battery.
Gary repairs zoes, people find him for repair so he's going to see all the broken ones, for the number of zoes sold to the number with the motor fault the numbers are low, all cars and models can get faults its a numbers game, the ZE50 models I suggested in video still be under renault 5 year warranty and thats extendable directly with renault if you want to factor in the motor risk but I sell ALOT of zoes and I see very few fail
@@NicolasRaimo fair point but it does seem like the bearings used in the motor are not really up to the job (especially at motorway speeds) and there’s potentially some kind of electrically discharge happening within the bearing, causing pitting on the running surfaces and contributing to premature failure. Out of interest- what do you think about battery leases once the car gets to the point of being uneconomic to repair? Gary is raising some big questions which show the whole scheme has never really been thought through.
If anyone is really considering a Zoe from late 2019 onwards, then check out the NCAP safety rating - 0 stars, 43% front seat occupant rating. Not much higher for rear seat passengers. Renault, in their infinite wisdom, chose to remove the head level side airbags on the latest model.
Impressive content, Nicolas Raimo. Looking forward to your next upload from you. I hit the thumbs up icon on your video. Keep up the fantastic work! The insights on the unsung heroes of the electric car market were enlightening. Have you considered discussing how the introduction of new battery technologies might affect the resale values of these lesser-known models in the future?
Well you're spoiling that now, raising the demand mate😂 Gotta agree on the 40kWh Kona price though, some owners are drunk asking prices 1000 below the 64kWh battery, they are worth at least 30% less
I’ve seen some cheap ones it tends to be some dealers buy them clueless of the difference and mark to high where other dealers mark them cheap to move them on
@@NicolasRaimo yeah some people are not well informed. Almost 40% difference in capacity and lower charging speed too makes a lot of a difference. Not too mention the battery degradation is higher as well if you compare cars with the same mileage, because the smaller battery used more cycles
Poor Nissan Leaf, I’m picking up a 2021 model next week and absolutely love it. I know looks are subjective but I really like the design (not the earlier pre 2018 ones though) Will be charging from home mostly so not too worried about chademo.
Nick and I disagree on the Leaf but I think it's a great car! Great size and comfortable. When you do find yourself rapid charging, Chademo tends to be more reliable than CCS anyway in my experience - although you can also now get CCS adapters which will prolong their life further. Just avoid it sitting at 100% much as the Leaf battery really seems to suffer with that.
I recognized the Fiat 500e immediately, as I bought one three years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed driving it since then. There has been no measurable battery deterioration so far and it averages 4.6 miles per kWh. I may be tempted to opt for a run out model at the end of this year as I fear that the facelifted version will use the Citroen eC3 drivetrain without one pedal driving.
