    This was nice to see. I get so tired of UA-camrs telling us how long it took to render a video but don’t show any of this front end work. This is the more important part of the workflow.

    I edit with h.265 since my drone, action cam and camera all use it. My cam could do prores but the files sizes are like 10 times for 5% quality improvement. And my PC with 14700k and 4070 handles it with ez. The laptop though 😅 I borrowed and X Elite and as you said, premiere 24 doesn't work so it's basically useless for me if I want to edit the same project on two devices. Also lightroom classic doesn't work which is my second most used Adobe app 😔

    Please tell us how you download this onto surface. Just bought one today didn't even realize there was no support. Plan to return tomorrow but I really don't want to. Exclusively bought this for premier pro on the go

      You need to have it installed on an Intel machine and copy the Adobe Premiere Pro folder. Then transfer it to your Surface device. It doesn't work for the latest versions, but 2023 works. Adobe is not letting anyone install Premiere or After Effects via emulation, so we have to wait until later this year for the native versions.

      You may just have to be patient until the native version releases if you dont want to return unfortunately

    Do you think the X Elite over the X Plus will really make much of a difference with video editing and render times?

    • @AleHndz
      @AleHndz  3 місяці тому

      Honestly, no. Judging by the "Best Performance" mode benchmarks, the X Elite is only about 10% faster. So, we're probably talking about a difference in seconds.

    Great Benchmark! 🔥🔥🔥 Is it performing as it should on resolve? Or this is not the expected/final performance yet? Would also be interesting if you could compare to other laptops like MacBook air/pro. Subbed!

    • @AleHndz
      @AleHndz  3 місяці тому

      Thank you! Resolve for Arm is still in beta, so I expect performance to improve once a stable release is available. If you're working on simple 4K or 1080p videos with some color grading and no fancy effects, you should be good. The "Timeline Proxy Resolution" setting will be your friend if start experiencing playback hiccups.

      @@seanvideoediting Yeah, if you're really serious about it, I'd definitely go for a Macbook Pro. I'd only recommend the Air or the Surface Pro if you only need to do on-the-go editing that doesn't involve a lot of nodes and effects. However, test one of your projects on the X Elite and see how it performs. If it's not up to standards, I'd get a more powerful machine.

    I've got the Surface Pro 11 Plus, I tried to edit yesterday but when I rendered out, it just gave me a green screen with the audio. Would you have any ideas on why that could be? I downloaded the latest beta version 19 public beta of Davinci resolve. BTW great video, thanks for showing us that it can do editing work, that was the only reason why I bough this instead of the old X versions. Keep it up.

      Hey! It sounds like a GPU issue to me. Did you do all of Windows updates? Those include some driver updates. You should be on the latest Windows version also (I think it's called 2024-07 Cumulative Update). Try that and if let me know if it doesn't work.

  • @MarcioK

    Hi, I know that we DON'T should edit using H.265, but for minimal editing / work on a clip with fast turnaround sometimes you don't want to generate a proxy.
    Hence my doubt, since no one have disclosed this information (even Qualcomm): the X Plus / Elite decodes H.265 10-bit 4:2:2 using hardware with resolve? Because this is a problem right now in Windows - only Intel processors from the 11th gen and above with iGpus and Quicksync enabled decodes it. AMD and NVIDIA cards only decodes 10-bit 4:2:0, and Ryzens do not decode at all.
    Could you test it, please? Thanks.

    How much RAM should I get for the Surface pro if we want to use photoshop and Davinci? Thanks

    • @AleHndz

      I'd say 32gb if you're editing 4K. Photoshop would be fine with just 16 and 1080p video too.

    my old 1050 GPU can run color grading on resolve....the real test is fusion, titles, effects...I also have an m2 with only 8GB ram...I notice nothing and I am working on a 45 minutes 4k timeline with effects....Apple still seems ahead from what I have been seeing compared to Snapdragon when it comes to resolve...

    i'm thinking about getting the surface pro 11 for picture and video editing on the go. Or should i buy he new ipad pro? Dont really wanna support apple but it seems to be the better option sadly. Either way, i will wait till end of the year.
    What would be your reccomendation?

    • @AleHndz
      @AleHndz  2 місяці тому +1

      For photo editing, the Surface is amazing. Photoshop runs great and it's full version. The iPad OS version is missing features because they optimized it for iPad so you're not getting the full desktop version.
      As for video editing, Premiere Pro still isn't available on Arm, so you'd have to run it emulated and performance and battery savings won't be the best until Adobe releases the Arm version. If you use DaVinci Resolve then both iPad and Surface versions should be ok.

    • @AleHndz
      @AleHndz  Місяць тому +1

      Depende. Es competición directa, y Apple quizás es superior en cuanto a batería. A este punto, cuando ambos dispositivos tienen performance similar, se trataría más de prefirir un sistema operativo que otro. Si prefieres Windows, entonces Surface es la mejor opción. Si prefieres Mac, M3 es la mejor opción.

      The 2018 iPad does better because it will not run non-native software like the apps in the video. The apps you run on the iPad are fully optimized for iOS and the ARM-based A12X SoC on that 2018 iPad including any hardware encoders it has.
      The software shown in the video is not yet fully optimized for the laptop’s ARM processor. When the developers get that done, the Snapdragon X will probably blow away that 2018 iPad. (But it might not beat an M4 iPad, which is also ARM.)
