BIG NEWS! I just launched my Patreon and I'll be doing regular gear giveaways to my supporters! Yep. The gear I get to test and review is going to YOU. On top of that, you get access to exclusive content and a patron only Discord server for talking shop and asking questions. Sign up here: patreon.com/joshmcdarris Long story short, this is an older review that I’ve re-uploaded. UA-cam demonetized my channel a while back without explanation, forcing me to systematically delete and rebuild a portion of my channel. The good news is that it's now remonetized and more gear reviews are coming! Lights, lenses, productivity tools, cameras, computers - basically anything used in the creative process. Sorry your set-up interfered with the indoor test, but I appreciated your forthright admission about the test. My MKE 600 arrives tomorrow--can't wait to hear how it sounds in my studio. Thanks for posting this despite the hiccup with the indoor test.
The seinhiezer is clearly so much better, by your test alone. Yet ive been a location soundy for over 20 years. The seinhiezer is just as clear, not muddy at all. Yet the ambient noise is so much louder on the rode. The entire point of a shot gun is a super directional cardiod pattern. Ths rode is picking up heaps of traffick noise, the air-conditioner.... you ran out of time? So you dont own either of these microphones. Who gave them to you. Re the studio noise. Were you picking up the noise on any other microphones. Did you test any other microphones? It sounds like dirty spill from eletric cables or the like. Im assuming you turned off all the lights?
I just purchased an MKE 600 and run it through my Rodecaster Pro 2. I’m lost though, it seems as though I have to set the gain to 45-55 in order for it to pick up my voice properly and have it in the green bar range. Doing this though I get all the horrible sounds of the room and house coming through to the max. It doesn’t sound good at all, I’m very lost as to how to make it sound good. Everyone on UA-cam seems to have one and it sounds awesome, is everyone just doing a load of post processing? I’m so lost…
What did you end up buying? Does it sound better? What you are describing seems normal to me. Some sort of reverb or just noises from the house itself. The people who have it are probably recording either in a sound studio or outside. A mic like that is not for every situation. I guess there is a lot of noise in your apartment.
There is a lot of background noise in the apartment. I ended up getting the Sennheiser MKH50. Definitely sounds better (to be expected) but there is still a lot of ambient noise.
The sennheiser is a little less reverberant at the 6' distance and seems to have a little more direct voice clarity. Probably has a tighter pattern and more rejection.
@@jmaccreative Thanks for taking the time to answer. I am new to audio and have a Tascam Portacapture recorder which I would like to utilise via its xlr ports for ambient and nature but not sure what to buy. So great if anyone can chip in. Thanks
The noise could be the power or usb connection depending on your setup Experienced something similar before and in my case it ended up being unclean power delievery from the usb port on my PC to my audio interface causing it Edit: Actually, if I recall right it wasn’t the usb ports fault, but the wall outlet and moving my PC to another fixed it
Gotcha. Yeah, I couldn't figure this one out. Went from AC to battery power, turned off my LEDs, switched cables, all kinds of stuff. Never figured it out. Could have been some weird interference from the building/power lines. Haven't had the issue with the Sennheiser since.
I tried AC and battery power on the camera, phantom power and battery power on the mics, XLR to mini XLR, and XLR to 3.5mm. Literally every combination of power and cables at my disposal. Haven't had an issue like this since with a wired mic.

I have the same thing going on. Did you figure out what caused the interference?

@@breveganlyfeNope. I ended up returning the MKE 600 and purchased a different microphone alongside another recorder to test as well.

How does it perform for nature sounds and wildlife
Haven't used these for ambient field recording but maybe someone can chime in that has.

please I have a doubt 😅 To film pizza makers and chefs while they work, what could be better for me? Is it ok Mke 600? Thanks a lot!
MKE 600 is a bit long if you're using it on camera. Any of these short shotgun mics would work great: bhpho.to/3QAsWxP (affiliate link)
@@jmaccreative Thank you!
Which one would be better in videoing outdoor wild life on a mirror less camera Thanks for your input.

What cable did you use?

Sounds like my aircon (background noise). Nice down to earth review. How'd you get to my condo in Manila? :-)
