Have you listened to any Motley Crue? That was my fathers favorite til the day he died he passed away six years ago to heroin overdose it breaks my heart so there’s some drug awareness for you it will kill you doesn’t matter who you are heroin doesn’t care who you are it will kill you, Motley Crue had some drug issues in the past that their bassist Nikki sixx wrote and had a solo album about I know a lot of older rock music talks about dark stuff but their era of time none of the stuff was out that’s out now so they spoke messages in their songs. March is my fathers birthday month I’m gonna give a shout out for some sort of heroin/ drug awareness, maybe play a song off of Nikki sixxs album about it, it’s sad how many people we lose to drugs I miss my father everyday but he was wrong for it he knows I’m upset but he’s in peace his life wasn’t easy it ate him up inside and it’s sad 😔 I wish people would reach out more when their in trouble but thanks man I love your stuff keep doing you LFR fam your awesome
This song saved my life in 1980. I was going down the drain with drugs and partying and listened hard to this while very stoned. The message of what I was doing to myself at that point came through loud and clear through the haze, and I was able to pull myself back from the brink before it was too late.
Was there 2 years ago, bathtub and a knife... with all those thoughts (whole life) spinnin in the head, but physically i just couldn't. Lost in the wheels... take care Ed.
The story of this song is that early in their career, Sabbath did a residency in Germany. While there, they met many American servicemen who were coming back from Vietnam with severe heroin addiction and suffering the effects of PTSD
I heard Geezer say it was inspired by their first tour of the US; many in the audience were current and former soldiers of the Vietnam war. When they got to know some of these fans, Geezer realized they were traumatized and self-medicating with smack. He wrote the lyrics, so I trust that version.
FINALLY SOMEONE commented on Hand of Doom instead of Paranoid or War Pigs lol! Sabbath has so many great songs!! Hands of Doom one of the best songs by Sabbath!!
Hand of Doom and Electric Funeral are my favorites from Paranoid, and they're seem to be forgotten when people react to that album, they just go for the easy ones (that are also awesome, but much more known)
The name Black Sabbath was taken from a 1950's Boris Karloff movie entitled "Black Sabbath." Geezer Butler wrote most of Sabbath's lyrics and they would go to the theater and watch horror movies together.
Ozzy has such a crazy rep from his tv shows etc, but Ozzy Osbourne has one of the best voices in rock and roll, so many people underrate him as a vocalist. In his prime he could hold his own against anyone.
Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are my two favorite bands. You are going to love them when you dive in. Their drummer, Bill Ward, was a BEAST. ‘SNOWBLIND’ is a must.
Saw Black Sabbath at the Chicago Auditorium August 1971. I was stone straight (designated driver) and it was the scariest concert I had ever been to. Crazy energy and lots of spaced out kids! Can't remember the warm up band, but Black Sabbath made quite an impression. Had never driven on a freeway before but I didn't let my friends know that until we arrived home.
Bill Ward is the drummer, and as a drummer myself, he's one of my favorite drummers of ALL time.. He's an absolute beast behind the kit.. Bill Ward and John Bonham of Led Zeppelin were great friends and respected the hell out of each other.. Love your reaction to Sabbath, keep em coming.. Black Sabbath is better than Zeppelin, change my mind.....
I had this same discussion with someone 7 years ago. We had to agree to disagree, but I know Sabbath is better. You won’t find this level of depth in Zeppelin songs.
As a drummer with a Black Sabbath tattoo on my arm and wearing my vest with a Black Sabbath backpatch I can't do anything but agree. Black Sabbath are undisputed. Bill is my favorite drummer now, however Bonham was for many years and also the reason that got me into drumming. But Black Sabbaths songs and as a band overall beats Zeppelin. Very different bands though, so it's hard to compare. But still, Sabbath is better 😄
I used to hold a hard stance on the Sabbath v Zeppelin debate.. that Sabbath crushed Zeppelin w/o question and Iommi made Page get him more beer all day long. loll smh.. have since lightened up a little bit on it.. Zeppelin earned a place among RnR's Elite bands of the classic era. Their list and variety of hits is undeniable. After a certain level is attained, the choice becomes which type of "great" do you prefer? That said, Sabbath's tone stops you in your tracks and their groove hits you with the brute force of a run away cement truck. No other band was doing that back then. That's why *Sabbath will Always be the King of That Particular Hill.* Edit: Btw... Yes, Ward and Bonham were old friends from Birmingham... But, Bonham was actually Iommi's best man at his first wedding!
The first four Black Sabbath albums are easily some of the best music ever made! Everyone in the band are absolute monsters at their craft! The drums are tight but groovy as hell, the bass is catchy as hell, the guitar has the best and most timeless riffs ever, and Ozzy just brings it all together with his voice and lyrics!
People talk about Sabbath being heavy metal, but just wait a second there, you're shortchanging a great band. There's blues, funk, rock, punk, metal. Sabbath was much more than the sum of their alleged metal parts.
Sabbath actually started out as a blues band before adding elements of rock (punk, funk, and metal weren't really a think at that time). The fusion of blues and rock is the basis for metal and is why Black Sabbath is considered the progenitors of heavy metal.
Most progenitors of a new thing fail to see themselves as being the beginning of a new thing. They tend to see themselves as just doing their own thing. It is usually outside observers that notice when a new thing is truly the start of something different and decide to put a new label on it. So while Iommi and Ozzy both have said they view their music as hard rock, most everyone else recognizes their band as the start of heavy metal, myself included.
Brotha's reacting to Black Sabbath bruh! You feel the bass and drums cuz it's in your soul, then react to the singer/ lyrics... you fucking get it bruh. Love it bruh!
When you get a fine jazz drummer and free him up to play metal or heavy rock, this is hat you get. May I suggest "A National Acrobat" or "Sweet Leaf" by this group? The very beginnings and essence of metal. Hand of Doom was recorded in 1970. Still relevant today.
This was the first song I learned how to play period. The very first. That was 40 years ago. Bringing back great memories. Peace from Stan the Alaskan. And now you know why I'm a metal head from the beginning. My favorite band All day. Influenced my guitar playing for sure.
same man, I think this might be my favorite sabbath song after many years of listening to them, I love people's reaction to the slow, jazzy parts of the song. was super hyped when I saw the thumbnail for this
"Dark, laid back and groovy" You just described Black Sabbath perfectly. This song is about drug addiction, specifically heroin addiction among Vietnam veterans following the war.
Best metal-jazz drummer ever, the unmatched riff master Iommi, Geezer's demented mind providing the insane lyrics and hammering bass, and the prototypical metal front man. All in one band, how could they miss?
I love this song because it really captures a moment in time. It's important to remember the effects war had on the returning vets. I feel the vibe and music, it all captures and illustrates the story. This is just so well done. Why don't we have music like this anymore?
The Sabbath sound came about when everyone was playing the radio friendly bubble gum. Geezer thought they weren't cute enough to get away with bubble gum. They decided to scare the shit out of people, and completely changed Rock
I'm glad you have experienced Sabbath! The world's greatest band! Well, in my opinion lol! My favorite is "Behind the Wall of Sleep"...I actually got to see ALL ORIGINAL MEMBERS play in West Palm Beach Florida in around 1997-98. I was about 24 yrs old & never in my life did I think I would get that chance to see them live! But after that, I told myself I could die happy! 🤘🏻👅🤘🏻
yeah man, it is dark, and groovy, and soulful, and yes even fun! That part in the middle when the heavy groove drops "You're having a good time baby..."- that part kills me every time. Its all about soldiers dealing with PTSD and turning to drugs
Growing up...Everyone wanted to Condemn Sabbath, because they sung "The Truth"....! "They" never even "LISTENED"to what Ozzy was saying ! ..I Continued to listen to them& Nobody can make me Stop !!!!....."Warpigs",baby!
Good day, this song was about the turmoil of the Vets coming home from the Viet Nam War and having to deal with the atrocities of what they'd witnessed, ( Now called PTSD). MANY of them came back, ALREADY addicted to heroin, and were trying to escape the mental anguish they indured. I was 9 years old when this album first came out, My Dad had just come back from a 2 year "Tour", working in a MASH type unit. Luckily he turned to Religion to cope. On a Good note, listening to this album inspired me to play guitar and achieve a wonderful career in music.
May God and Jesus bless and protect you, your Father, and the rest of your family. 🙏❤️ And I also thank your Father for his service, and sacrifices made during war time.
Yes, this is a song about Vietnam Vets with PTSD and heroin addiction, to deal with what they saw and went through. It also talks about heroin addiction killing you. Thanks for reviewing that! Some of their other songs along those lines have already been mentioned.
I hate when people say who is your favorite band or what is your favorite song by said band........dude...there are "TOO MANY".... But, this song here.........this is legendary.......period.....'nuff said....
This is my favorite song from Sabbath, cause its so slow and heavy amd thats what so great about them. Every member of the band just kills it on this tune.
The Sabbath rabbit hole is a deep one. This is four white guys from England. This came out around 1971. They didn't invent heavy metal, but they defined it. So many good songs. That leader singer, BTW, is Ozzy Osbourne. Check out "Symptom of the Universe", "Children of the Grave", "War Pigs", "Supernaut", "Iron Man", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath"
Nice reaction.🤘🏻 Actually, the story behind the band's name is interesting. They were called "Earth" at first but one day, they saw a movie title on the other side of the road and it was a horror movie called "Black Sabbath". So they thought it would be a cool idea to change their name since people pay for getting scared and they wanted to scare people as well.😁 And then they invented metal... Yep.🤘🏻 You should check out "Iron Man", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", "Symptom Of The Universe", just to name a few. Singer - Ozzy Osbourne Guitarist and riffgod - Tony Iommi Bass player - Geezer Butler Drummer - Bill Ward
The folly of self medicating pain and trauma through drugs - heroin specifically. Been down that road Inspired by Vietnam Veterans they got to know who were in the same boat. Epic Sabbath
Bill Ward is the TRUTH, the whole truth and nothing but the TRUTH!!!!!!!!!! A music critic once said of Bill Ward, “ he beats the drums like they owe him money.” Jay battled with narcotic addiction, so it makes sense this song would speak to him, and the fact that it is🔥. Yes it’s about war, veterans and drug addiction
Another great drummer from the era was Buddy Miles. Not only was he able to lay down some seriously funky beats, but he could sing while playing too. Band of Gypsys is definitely worth listening to (Jimi Hendrix on guitar, Buddy Miles on drums, and Billy Cox on bass).
Black Sabbath started out as a blues band, they were called Earth. When Tony got his fingertips sniped off they changed things up . I enjoyed this one!
Honestly I think when we all started listening to this we realize we’re dealing with magical forces of music that are beyond our comprehension that’s how good they are
Bro, I too am a Led Zep fan first, but then I heard Ozzy's Tribute album, and friend told me Ozzy was from Black Sabbath, so I started listening to them and Bro, I couldn't get enough Black Sabbath, So F'n heavy its crazy
I know every note. Listened to this 1000 times as a teenager. I would have never though to introduce any if these songs to my friends of color or disco r and b kids. I am so sorry I ever turned my other friends on to it. Truthfully I though only my metalheads friends would like it. It's on me. I am a 59 years old ex stoner kid. Maybe check some Alice Cooper.
My personally favorite ones that you have to check out pls, “N.I.B.” , “Iron Man” , “Electric Funeral” , “Fairies Wear Boots” , “The Wizard” but I would say check out N.I.B. For sure
My mom, (rest her soul), loved them after I introduced them to her. She passed at 81. My father was in Vietnam and I don't know if he ever listened to their music. His parents did though, lol. They said they burned all my record albums but they didn't. My sister found them recently at their house. They passed in the late 90's. They saved 3 of my Black Sabbath albums.
Vocals, & the second guitar track were recorded at a different studio, but the bulk of this song (bass, drums, guitar) were recorded at one time, & in one take. One. For a song over seven minutes long, with multiple tempo & key changes.
*That DRUMMER blew me away Bruh!*
Bill Ward on drums!
Ozzy OSBOURNE..is that smooth lead vocal
The wizard should be next the drums are crazy
2 best drummers... John B from Zep and ........Bill ward from sabbath... top 2 rock drummers ever..
Bill Ward is underrated as a drummer. You can tell he's been very schooled in jazz. Sabbath swings.
Bill Ward is the TRUTH!!!!! Criminally underrated.
True and not. Its not so much jazz influence as it is reactionary. Those were his words
Most underrated drummer ever! He’s a legend imo.
And think he did this with a simple drum setup, no big drum kits just him and the drums. He doesn't get enough credit for his skill.
This song saved my life in 1980. I was going down the drain with drugs and partying and listened hard to this while very stoned. The message of what I was doing to myself at that point came through loud and clear through the haze, and I was able to pull myself back from the brink before it was too late.

Lost in the wheels... take care Ed.
Same here man....maybe 92 for me. Song saved me.
I’m glad for you man, that’s why the lyrics will be always important
Glad you’re here man God bless
Really glad that it reached you- and you are OK. I think B Sabbath had the song as a warning and they wanted to get the message out.
The story of this song is that early in their career, Sabbath did a residency in Germany. While there, they met many American servicemen who were coming back from Vietnam with severe heroin addiction and suffering the effects of PTSD
Been listening to this song for 40 years. Didn't know the back story. From one Sabbath fan to another. Thank you. Peace out
I heard Geezer say it was inspired by their first tour of the US; many in the audience were current and former soldiers of the Vietnam war. When they got to know some of these fans, Geezer realized they were traumatized and self-medicating with smack. He wrote the lyrics, so I trust that version.
My dad was one of those men that came out if nam hooked on heroin and exposed to agent orange.
True story brother.
@Andy Brian they did 6 weeks in Hamburg and also spent time in Zurich in the fall of 1969
"War Pigs" , "Fairies Wear Boots" , and "The Wizard" are all classic Black Sabbath songs worth checking out.
"War Pigs" and "Fairies Wear Boots" have insane drumming and "The Wizard" has Ozzy playing harmonica on it.
War pigs has been and done by him. Watch the video he did.
Fairies wear boots and the wizard are 2 of my favorite sabbath songs
Warning, into the void and NIB also, and don't forget "bit of finger".
I'm a bit late to this but the entire paranoid album and master of reality are masterpieces
I agree my favorite or one of by Sabbath
It has to do with guys coming back from Vietnam.
Into the void, snowblind, sweatleaf. Just to mention a few more to check out.
Tomorrow's Dream
The name Black Sabbath was taken from a 1950's Boris Karloff movie entitled "Black Sabbath." Geezer Butler wrote most of Sabbath's lyrics and they would go to the theater and watch horror movies together.
That's Ozzy Osbourne singing.
So many new fans on this reaction videos haven't figured that out yet that Ozzy Osbourne is the lead singer of Black Sabbath
I know
dear me
Ozzy has such a crazy rep from his tv shows etc, but Ozzy Osbourne has one of the best voices in rock and roll, so many people underrate him as a vocalist. In his prime he could hold his own against anyone.
@@goldenagenut no one has ever underestimated the singing of Ozzy. They started in the 60s and I've been listening to B S and Ozzy for decades
It's about heroin, coming back from Vietnam, and using heroin is basically suicide.
Correct. And correct.
That's exactly what I thought. ✌😔
"Into the Void." Astounding groove.
Yeah my favorite. We been covering it in bars for years.
My favorite sabbath song. That opening riff is fucking sick.
Opening riff is the heaviest thing in the universe.
Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are my two favorite bands. You are going to love them when you dive in. Their drummer, Bill Ward, was a BEAST. ‘SNOWBLIND’ is a must.
Snowblind is my favorite sabbath song and coincidentally my favorite of bill wards
I credit this song for keeping needles out of my arms in my younger years.
Sabbath wants you to be happy with the Sweet Leaf but not to die of heroin addiction
I had this same discussion with someone 7 years ago. We had to agree to disagree, but I know Sabbath is better.
You won’t find this level of depth in Zeppelin songs.
I'm a man who likes a challenge, this you've posed the impossible sir.
Yeah, while I am a bigger Zep fan, if I could be like any drummer, it would be Bill Ward. He is like a funky avalanche. I LOVE his style.
After a certain level is attained, the choice becomes which type of "great" do you prefer?
That said, Sabbath's tone stops you in your tracks and their groove hits you with the brute force of a run away cement truck.
No other band was doing that back then. That's why *Sabbath will Always be the King of That Particular Hill.*
Edit:
Btw... Yes, Ward and Bonham were old friends from Birmingham...
But, Bonham was actually Iommi's best man at his first wedding!
"listen to that pocket baby". THAT is what this band was all about. You nailed it.
HELL YEAH!!!
Absolutely ,none better! I was lucky to live in that era.
First 4? Sabotage is absolutely brilliant
....and dont forget the 2 great albums they did with DIo!!!!
Ozzy was a great front man with a very distinct sound and delivery, but he rarely ever wrote his own lyrics lol...
Well said my thoughts exactly they were inovators that helped shape and influence other rockers in the genre of rock
People talk about Sabbath being heavy metal, but just wait a second there, you're shortchanging a great band. There's blues, funk, rock, punk, metal. Sabbath was much more than the sum of their alleged metal parts.

You'll find this whole album to be amazingly good. Bill Ward on drums can match Bonzo.
and in my opinion BW is more original and unique..
Watching you react to this tune makes me love this song even more.
Everyone should be open to all genres.
Absolutely agree I never got into the dark twisted and drug fueled part of metal music but Sabbath was and will always be in my top bands
Sweet Leaf! Supernut, Snowblind!🤟🤟🤟🔥🔥🔥 Van do whole album Paranoid 👍👍👍
This was the first song I learned how to play period. The very first. That was 40 years ago. Bringing back great memories. Peace from Stan the Alaskan. And now you know why I'm a metal head from the beginning. My favorite band All day. Influenced my guitar playing for sure.
Your guess at where the name "Black Sabbath" came from had me rolling!
I haven't heard this in years brought back some memories
I have been begging reactors for this one for a long time. Total badass.
same man, I think this might be my favorite sabbath song after many years of listening to them, I love people's reaction to the slow, jazzy parts of the song. was super hyped when I saw the thumbnail for this
Love Sabbath. I got to meet the entire band back in the 90s in Philly. Ozzy, Bill Geezer and Tony!
Dark, laid back and groovy describes Sabbath very well.
"Dark, laid back and groovy"
You just described Black Sabbath perfectly.
I always heard this as an anti heroin song
That's why I requested it. Heroin is a dead end folks. Period.
It is!
Anti-war and anti-heroin.
Me 2
I love this song because it really captures a moment in time. It's important to remember the effects war had on the returning vets. I feel the vibe and music, it all captures and illustrates the story. This is just so well done. Why don't we have music like this anymore?

I love him discovering Black Sabbath!!! ONE OF US ONE OF US!!
In my humble opinion the greatest band of all time
It’s amazing that this music is 50+ years old, and still sounds heavy af!

Right. I always tell people that ask me that depends what kind of mood I am in.
Black Sabbath just was on fire back in the day. Never heard this song, but it just became my new fave. song. Funky fresh my friends.
Drums, base, vocals, guitar, Sabbath is a powerful force that showcases the entire band. Nothing stays in the background forever.
This is my favorite song from Sabbath, cause its so slow and heavy amd thats what so great about them. Every member of the band just kills it on this tune.

hell ya its a black sabbath wave passing on my soulll
Do “Warning,” next. You will thank me.
Thank you so much!
Goddamn Right!
Hip hop dudes tend to love Sabbath :).
Hey Van, you aught to try "Supernaut" or "Symptom of the Universe" next. Some of Bill Ward's best work.
That smooth lead vocal is mr. OZZY OSBOURNE!
Now your a Head Banger dude! Black Sabbath kicks ass 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Nice reaction.🤘🏻 Actually, the story behind the band's name is interesting. Fun to watch! Really brings me back to the first times I heard Black Sabbath. Just blown away. Great to see new audience appreciate the great music!
Destroying yourself with hard drugs. Not wanting to face reality and then losing your love for life.
Correct.
Yes, sir. It's much more frightening than death to kill your own inner love and still have to walk around without a soul.
My favourite Black Sabbath song. Such great message
@ 9:31...NO....He is talking about Heroin use among Veterans......of all regardless of era.
The folly of self medicating pain and trauma through drugs - heroin specifically. Been down that road
Inspired by Vietnam Veterans they got to know who were in the same boat. Epic Sabbath
Always loved that song. Hits hard through out.
I hope you're all having a great day you and your family it was a great reaction thank you 😊
I like your point of view on music we all hear it differently. But you just had the pleasure of listening to Black Sabbath
Your face on the change up was awesome lol man Black Sabbath are the groove masters and Toni iommi with his riffs from the Gods can’t beat it !!
You should check out the live version of Sabbath's War Pigs live from Paris in 1971... Bill is out of control on the drums!
One of my fav Sab tunes deep dark sound with lyrics to match
BANGER .. DEEP SHIT BROTHER 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This reminds me of his later songs called, The Almighty Dollar... from Ozzy black rain album! That would be a cool follow up song to this one!😁
Took me a long time to admit it due for my LOVE of RUSH.....But I'll say it. Black Sabbath is my GOAT.
The best music 1960-1980
Well done for doing this one mate
There awesome mystical mages , with magical messages of light and dark forces .
Bill Ward is the TRUTH, the whole truth and nothing but the TRUTH!!!!!!!!!! A music critic once said of Bill Ward, “ he beats the drums like they owe him money.”
Jay battled with narcotic addiction, so it makes sense this song would speak to him, and the fact that it is🔥. Yes it’s about war, veterans and drug addiction
Sabbath over any 70's band
As a brazilian, the bass riff and the drums rhythm sound like bossa nova to my ears.
My favourite drummer Mr Bill Ward and my favourite bass player Gezza Butler.. Legends 👍
You seem like a great guy, thanks for the great video
Honestly I think when we all started listening to this we realize we’re dealing with magical forces of music that are beyond our comprehension that’s how good they are
Also try The Warning its one of there best songs to me
Bro, I too am a Led Zep fan first, but then I heard Ozzy's Tribute album, and friend told me Ozzy was from Black Sabbath, so I started listening to them and Bro, I couldn't get enough Black Sabbath, So F'n heavy its crazy
2 best drummers... John B from Zep and ........Bill ward from sabbath... top 2 rock drummers ever..
This is the stuff I grew up on and I’m thankful for that.
I wish I could experience music like this for the first time nowadays.
For sure
*This one and "Sweet Leaf" are my two favorite Sabbath songs to play on guitar.*
you can’t go wrong with any recommendations in these comments but A National Acrobat is an absolutely GOATed riff and song
Feel so good I feel so fine love that little lady always on my mind 👍🏻
Nice to see a reaction to a Sabbath tune other than the norm. Thanks, J. Anthony and Van.
Dope-ass song indeed!! Great reaction to the original metal gods! 🤘
fav song of all time. All parts are awesome.
And now that youve veered off the mainstream Sabbath track, time for Lord Of This World
I remember Black Sabbath on the radio.
New subscriber. Like your stuff
I recommend you check out
'She's gone' by 'Black Sabbath'-
a very, very gripping, beautiful ballad
My mom, (rest her soul), loved them after I introduced them to her. She passed at 81. My father was in Vietnam and I don't know if he ever listened to their music. His parents did though, lol. They said they burned all my record albums but they didn't. My sister found them recently at their house. They passed in the late 90's. They saved 3 of my Black Sabbath albums.
The Best thing about bands like Sabbath and Maiden is you NEVER hear em the same way twice, always something different and new to pick up.
Vocals, & the second guitar track were recorded at a different studio, but the bulk of this song (bass, drums, guitar) were recorded at one time, & in one take.
One.
For a song over seven minutes long, with multiple tempo & key changes.
