I just can't get behind the Ed and Winry ship. Probably just because I watched it just after coming to terms with my acquired disability, her getting mad about the automail really irked me. I dont care if you invented my cane, my brace, or my wheelchair, once I'm using it, its mine. Its one thing to be concerned, it's another to hit him and be upset about breaking "her automail". Also, most of the time, when the automail broke, it was broken saving him. It would have been so much better if she was panicked and concerned, then happy and proud something she built kept him alive. That they framed it in relief instead of anger. The automail scenes ruined that for me I guess. I get why other people ship it, but it is one of the worst FMA ships to me...
In all honesty, every FMA couple is such a good and likable pair. Like, you have Ed and Winry, and they're like the cutest thing ever. They work so well together and you can literally feel that they love and care for each other. And they're not the only ones. And all of this is achieved, all these couples work so well with each other without a single kiss or anything at that matter. It's just the writing for FMA that's so good that it's able to achive such things.
yes, the one thing that makes me dislike a romantic pairing is if it turns into a romantic plot tumor but somehow fmab managed to have multiple romantic subplots going on at the same time withot any of them feeling forced or clishe and still having relevance to the story

He would try to sabotage her chance of being impressed by other guys- this is especially expressed in season 3 when he says he is her boyfriend. taichi and chihaya may be cute and I would of been ok with it, but arata and chihaya was always the ship that had the potential to sail. I always lolled at taichi shippers cos i knew they were on the titanic

the author confirmed that the only reason that they aren't married is because of the militairy frateration laws which keeps them from having a romantic relationship... so yeah, they're canon... (also episode 59... need I say more)

Huge fan of Taiga and Ryuji from ToraDora personally. It's a really refreshing take on the tsundere archetype, there's a a lot of chemistry between them, and they both honestly care about each other and want nothing but the others happiness, even at the cost of themselves. Helps that ToraDora really gets what it means to love someone. They are always treated as equals in the relationship, and it's awesome to see how they handle their relationship moving towards the future. There's just a lot of maturity there. It just gets what it means to be a teenager dealing with matters of the heart.

I felt the same way about Ichigo and Orihime , but by the end of the arc where Ichigo like uses up his power in order to defeat Aizen, and goes back to a normal life and.... nothing happens. Dude I was done, but I kept reading. Then suddenly Ichigo is going to get power again, from some other method and it's like "aight, I see you Bleach, just milking the story for all you can, time for us to part ways". Never looked back or missed it, anime or manga.

Totally with you on the Kaname + Sosuke option. I feel like it often gets buried under the whole military and mecha premise that the show seems to be at first glance, but there are truly some very down to earth and intimate moments between them, than are woven in between the action. If you continue past TSR and read the light novels, it only gets better.
I'm suprised that there isn't more love for trisha and hoenheim tbh... I mean their story was so tragic but they clearly still loved eachother. Hoho was also a really great character and it's sad to see how many people in the fandom hate him :/ (also I'm a big fan of roy x riza so I guess I might just have a thing for angst and sad backstories, pun not intended xD)
I have an OTP type: Person A understands and gets Person B, and vice versa. Examples: MakoHaru (Free!), GonKillua (Hunter x Hunter), and NatsumeTanuma (Natsume's Book of Friends).
I love Riza and Mustang. I, to this day, think FullMetal Alchemist does relationships so well. All characters act in a way that you would expect someone of their age to react. Characters that are together, are actually together, and can actually cope being in a room together. None of this Sword Art Online- being threatened with a butter knife stuff- proper actual relationship that you'd expect from a healthy... relationship. Throughout Brotherhood, you see more and more of how close the characters are, there's never any of this over-the-top anime reaction stuff, it's all just... beautifully done. I could literally go on for days about how much I think FullMetal Alchemist does well, but I feel like UA-cam gets bored of me ranting and going completely off of my original topic and point. Anyways- TL;DR Roy and Riza are the best and cutest couple that understand each other deeply, and care for each other even more deeply, to the point that Roy is ready to sacrifice his life, job, and country for Riza (as shown in multiple episodes that I won't talk about any further because spoilers). Ed and Winry are super cute, and Alphonse being interested in Winry is very nicely dealt with in the series, and I feel like in the universe. Even Izumi and Sid are done well, I honestly love them. FMA- where writer's know what humans are (most of the time).
As prozd said, no way can they like each other and fight that much. Same with nisekoi. Same with all the other protagonists that end up with tsunderes (the exceptions being EdxWinry and OkabexKurisu)

Arata and Chihaya are the deepest, most epic, most natural couple in any fictional show I have seen. There's just so much unspoken chemistry that it sparks off the screen or page.

My list is based on my personal preferences, so some of them are kinda embarassing, but... 5. Inu-Yasha/Kagome (Inu-Yasha): I get it, I get why people hate this ship: the two argue constantly, and it does get annoying. But! While that started to annoy me later in the series, and I felt like they and their relationship stagnated after a certain point, I loved them while the series was still fresh. They genuinely do not like each other starting out, but as they get to know each other better, you can see them starting to care in spite of themselves. They both go through that "I hate him/her!" stage, but Kagome's actually pretty quick to catch on. I like how their relationship moves toward romance naturally, without either of them saying anything. Like, when Kagome's first jealous of Kikyo, she never mentions it, but it kind of goes without saying for both of them. Plus there were just a ton of mushy shipping scenes I just adored... but I liked that part so much because it felt earned; the characters and their dynamic made me want to see that before anything actually happened. 4. Sawako/Kazehaya (Kimi ni Todoke): Ugh, this one is so super-cute! Sawako is such a sweet, hard-working girl, and Kazehaya is a genuinely nice guy. It's obvious why she likes him-- he reaches out to her, and he's the kind of friendly, out-going person she wants to be. But I like it that it's not just on her side; he likes her right away, too, because of her kind, cheerful, and thoughtful nature. He really admires how hard she tries. And it's adorable how awkward they are around each other. It's about as sweet as you can get. 3. Nodame/Chiaki (Nodame Cantablie): How does this even work? Chiaki is a snob and kind of an asshole, while Nodame is... Nodame is a special snowflake. She's a slob and a total weirdo, and yeah, I genuinely did not see how Chiaki would ever be interested; at first, I thought it her mad crush on him was going to be played just for laughs. But as the series went on... It was obvious that she really did care about him, and then when she started taking music more seriously... Chiaki could take her more seriously. I really loved how they had different perspectives about music and could help each other develop as artists; you could really sense the respect between them. It's just a wonderful show all around. 2. Risa/Ootani (Lovely Complex): So I kind of have a thing about love/hate couples. But it can't just be the two of them bitching at each other all the time; I want the arguments to feel genuine, and I want to feel chemistry between the two, and I want the relationship to actually develop beyond the bickering stage. So I was all over this pairing. It makes sense why they don't like each other at first-- Risa's tall and Ootani's short, and people make jokes about them when they stand together. You later find out Risa accidentally offended Ootani the first time they met, and... Yeah, no wonder they don't get along. But they can actually relate to each other when it comes to height-- Risa tends to be seen as less feminine, and Ootani tends to be seen as less masculine. Their personalities and interests turn out to be similar, and sometimes they forget to dislike each other and geek out over their favorite band. They end up helping each other and encouraging each other, and... Actually, it moves foward pretty quickly; Risa falls for Ootani pretty fast (well, for a shoujo series, anyway). But there's a realistic complication and... The relationship develops pretty realistically, actually. I love that the focus stays on their friendship rather than the mushy aspect. 1. Ash/Misty (Pokemon): Oh boy, this one's super personal! I was obsessed with Pokeshipping. Obse~ssed! That started when I was a kid, but embarrassingly, it lasted into adulthood (I tend to stick with my OTPs for like, ever). Anyway, it's another love/hate relationship... sorta. They start out arguing, but they had good chemistry, and it was actually funny. Plus, since they were actually kids, it made more sense. One thing I still love about Pokeshipping is how at some undefinable point, both Ash and Misty were aware that they actually were friends, and their arguments became less serious and more teasing. I developed the relationship a lot on my own, beyond what was in the show, but it was based on stuff that was hinted at. I got a strong sense that Misty felt a lot of devotion toward Ash, like she'd do anything for him, and while she wanted him to feel the same, she was willing to deal with him not getting it because she cared about him that much. That's a bit of a problem looking at it through a Feminist lens, the idea that it's real love when a girl continues loving someone, even when it's unrequited, but... Within the context of the show itself, it felt like she really cared about him as a person and friend before anything else. Actually, if you want to know the truth, Pokeshipping is STILL my OTP if we're talking about canon characters and not OCs. And what OCs are involved in my current OTP? A daughter character I made up for Ash and Misty and another character I made up. That started out just for shits and giggles, but I ended up really developing those characters and their relationship. *head-desk* Yeah, I'm pretty hopeless. I can't help it, though, I'm pretty much hard-wired to ship.
I'm a sucker for sad-stories. My favorite anime/manga couple is therefore Eva Heinemann and Martin Reest from Naoki Urasawa's _Monster_. These are some broken individuals, and they never really consummate any sort of relationship. But their involvement with one another brings out the best in them both, which although it results in tragedy, also leads to redemption for a character that I had written off since the start of the series.

Huge fan of Taiga and Ryuji from ToraDora personally. It's a really refreshing take on the tsundere archetype, there's a a lot of chemistry between them, and they both honestly care about each other and want nothing but the others happiness, even at the cost of themselves. Helps that ToraDora really gets what it means to love someone. They are always treated as equals in the relationship, and it's awesome to see how they handle their relationship moving towards the future. There's just a lot of maturity there. It just gets what it means to be a teenager dealing with matters of the heart.

yo I'm a 26 year old who recently gave up on anime. I watched cowboy bebop earlier in the year (before finding your list of best anime), and that has reignited the fire, but have since been struggling to find an adult anime.

I felt the same way about Ichigo and Orihime , but by the end of the arc where Ichigo like uses up his power in order to defeat Aizen, and goes back to a normal life and.... nothing happens. Dude I was done, but I kept reading. Then suddenly Ichigo is going to get power again, from some other method and it's like "aight, I see you Bleach, just milking the story for all you can, time for us to part ways". Never looked back or missed it, anime or manga.

Totally with you on the Kaname + Sosuke option. I feel like it often gets buried under the whole military and mecha premise that the show seems to be at first glance, but there are truly some very down to earth and intimate moments between them, than are woven in between the action. If you continue past TSR and read the light novels, it only gets better.

I have an OTP type: Person A understands and gets Person B, and vice versa. Examples: MakoHaru (Free!), GonKillua (Hunter x Hunter), and NatsumeTanuma (Natsume's Book of Friends).
I love Riza and Mustang. I, to this day, think FullMetal Alchemist does relationships so well. All characters act in a way that you would expect someone of their age to react.
Characters that are together, are actually together, and can actually cope being in a room together. None of this Sword Art Online- being threatened with a butter knife stuff- proper actual relationship that you'd expect from a healthy... relationship. Throughout Brotherhood, you see more and more of how close the characters are, there's never any of this over-the-top anime reaction stuff, it's all just... beautifully done. I could literally go on for days about how much I think FullMetal Alchemist does well, but I feel like UA-cam gets bored of me ranting and going completely off of my original topic and point.
Anyways- TL;DR
Roy and Riza are the best and cutest couple that understand each other deeply, and care for each other even more deeply, to the point that Roy is ready to sacrifice his life, job, and country for Riza (as shown in multiple episodes that I won't talk about any further because spoilers). Ed and Winry are super cute, and Alphonse being interested in Winry is very nicely dealt with in the series, and I feel like in the universe. Even Izumi and Sid are done well, I honestly love them. FMA- where writer's know what humans are (most of the time).

Arata and Chihaya are the deepest, most epic, most natural couple in any fictional show I have seen. There's just so much unspoken chemistry that it sparks off the screen or page.

My list is based on my personal preferences, so some of them are kinda embarassing, but...
5. Inu-Yasha/Kagome (Inu-Yasha): I get it, I get why people hate this ship: the two argue constantly, and it does get annoying. But! While that started to annoy me later in the series, and I felt like they and their relationship stagnated after a certain point, I loved them while the series was still fresh. They genuinely do not like each other starting out, but as they get to know each other better, you can see them starting to care in spite of themselves. They both go through that "I hate him/her!" stage, but Kagome's actually pretty quick to catch on. I like how their relationship moves toward romance naturally, without either of them saying anything. Like, when Kagome's first jealous of Kikyo, she never mentions it, but it kind of goes without saying for both of them. Plus there were just a ton of mushy shipping scenes I just adored... but I liked that part so much because it felt earned; the characters and their dynamic made me want to see that before anything actually happened.
4. Sawako/Kazehaya (Kimi ni Todoke): Ugh, this one is so super-cute! Sawako is such a sweet, hard-working girl, and Kazehaya is a genuinely nice guy. It's obvious why she likes him-- he reaches out to her, and he's the kind of friendly, out-going person she wants to be. But I like it that it's not just on her side; he likes her right away, too, because of her kind, cheerful, and thoughtful nature. He really admires how hard she tries. And it's adorable how awkward they are around each other. It's about as sweet as you can get.
3. Nodame/Chiaki (Nodame Cantablie): How does this even work? Chiaki is a snob and kind of an asshole, while Nodame is... Nodame is a special snowflake. She's a slob and a total weirdo, and yeah, I genuinely did not see how Chiaki would ever be interested; at first, I thought it her mad crush on him was going to be played just for laughs. But as the series went on... It was obvious that she really did care about him, and then when she started taking music more seriously... Chiaki could take her more seriously. I really loved how they had different perspectives about music and could help each other develop as artists; you could really sense the respect between them. It's just a wonderful show all around.
2. Risa/Ootani (Lovely Complex): So I kind of have a thing about love/hate couples. But it can't just be the two of them bitching at each other all the time; I want the arguments to feel genuine, and I want to feel chemistry between the two, and I want the relationship to actually develop beyond the bickering stage. So I was all over this pairing. It makes sense why they don't like each other at first-- Risa's tall and Ootani's short, and people make jokes about them when they stand together. You later find out Risa accidentally offended Ootani the first time they met, and... Yeah, no wonder they don't get along. But they can actually relate to each other when it comes to height-- Risa tends to be seen as less feminine, and Ootani tends to be seen as less masculine. Their personalities and interests turn out to be similar, and sometimes they forget to dislike each other and geek out over their favorite band. They end up helping each other and encouraging each other, and... Actually, it moves foward pretty quickly; Risa falls for Ootani pretty fast (well, for a shoujo series, anyway). But there's a realistic complication and... The relationship develops pretty realistically, actually. I love that the focus stays on their friendship rather than the mushy aspect.
1. Ash/Misty (Pokemon): Oh boy, this one's super personal! I was obsessed with Pokeshipping. Obse~ssed! That started when I was a kid, but embarrassingly, it lasted into adulthood (I tend to stick with my OTPs for like, ever). Anyway, it's another love/hate relationship... sorta. They start out arguing, but they had good chemistry, and it was actually funny. Plus, since they were actually kids, it made more sense. One thing I still love about Pokeshipping is how at some undefinable point, both Ash and Misty were aware that they actually were friends, and their arguments became less serious and more teasing. I developed the relationship a lot on my own, beyond what was in the show, but it was based on stuff that was hinted at. I got a strong sense that Misty felt a lot of devotion toward Ash, like she'd do anything for him, and while she wanted him to feel the same, she was willing to deal with him not getting it because she cared about him that much. That's a bit of a problem looking at it through a Feminist lens, the idea that it's real love when a girl continues loving someone, even when it's unrequited, but... Within the context of the show itself, it felt like she really cared about him as a person and friend before anything else. Actually, if you want to know the truth, Pokeshipping is STILL my OTP if we're talking about canon characters and not OCs. And what OCs are involved in my current OTP? A daughter character I made up for Ash and Misty and another character I made up. That started out just for shits and giggles, but I ended up really developing those characters and their relationship. *head-desk* Yeah, I'm pretty hopeless. I can't help it, though, I'm pretty much hard-wired to ship.
Hakajin I love all 5 of these ships. I love the mention of Nodame and Chiaki! Such an underrated couple.
I'm a sucker for sad-stories. My favorite anime/manga couple is therefore Eva Heinemann and Martin Reest from Naoki Urasawa's _Monster_. These are some broken individuals, and they never really consummate any sort of relationship. But their involvement with one another brings out the best in them both, which although it results in tragedy, also leads to redemption for a character that I had written off since the start of the series.
