Just a heads up for viewers: the mic input takes a 3.5mm 4 pole jack, the 4th pole being used for PTT. It will take a 3 pole jack if you don't mind using VOX or pressing the PTT button on the KX3. I personally hate wearing headphones but they have their uses for contests or noisy environments. And of course you can use any kind of mic including laptop mics like the ones for Skype. They usually have the 3.5mm jack.
I bought the Heil Pro-Set from Elecraft for my KX3, and it came with the adapter for my K2 also. That's where it stays now and I bought the cheaper set for field use, Lee, WA8QFE
I received the same great service! To top it off the headset works very good for me. I hope you are as pleased with the headset as you are with the Elecraft KX3. I am really enjoying mine and have nothing but positive reviews and comments for the KX3!
The Head phones appear to be for computer the Heil headset is basicly the same but with the PTT and adapter. Also the Heil have better noise canceling so less background noise
I think your decision was wise. The Heil ProSet is nice, I use one for my TS-590, but a little expensive. I use CW mostly and prefer operation with headphones. I think with some wiring I could this less expensive headset on my FT817 too.
Hi Steven, I may go ahead and pickup one of these headsets. The price is great compared to the Heil. The only drawback would be that the head phones are not stereo for the enhanced cw receive. Not sure if the Heil version is stereo. This is not a major issue due to it being used mainly for voice modes. Thanks for all your informative and entertaining videos. 73, Randy, w5kcm
at 3:56 when you put the mic plug in, you short the socket focing the KX3 into TX mode - this can damage some radios. Suggest you check the tech spec of the socket, I suspect it has additional connections perhaps like the K3 and not using the adapter could POSSIBLY cause damage to switching circuits, or even a voltage regulator for powering the mic. Great video otherwise, considering buying a KX3 soon. 73
