There is something many people are not taking into count - being in the comfort of your home, being "prepared" that something will happen next couple of seconds, being able to rewind, watch it again, rewind, watch it again and then analyze - this is not how the real life works. You have one chance, many more "inputs/distractions" and have to analyze way more data, you are usually not prepared and have way less time to react. I often check some situations on my camera and they are so different than what I "saw" and "remember".
The BMW was driving on the techically-not-a-race track. He paid the ticket and got pass the barriers. What more do you need in order to be prepared for anything?
Can confirm: Never go for that last lap ^^ Also, if your tire is blown, you can still move the car slowly out of a precarious situation like that. Better risk a scratch on a probably already scratched rim and prevent a crash.
At my local track days it's often very quiet at the end of the day. Just last weekend I could have gone out and had the whole track to myself.. but I'd already hit a new personal best and decided to call it a day. That's the kind of moment where you let your guard down and you _might_ come unstuck. Not guaranteed of course, but a higher risk. I'd had my fun, I went home in one piece..
If something like this happens, in general... Stay in your fucking car. Modern car, big strong thing designed to protect the squishy flesh inside it. Squishy flesh standing in middle of road/track, bad things happen!
Props to you Misha, was an incredible save, even with the wide angle of the Go Pro when entering the Carousel i believe you could only see a few pixels of the BMW so you dont need to explain yourself for that
2:48 dude, you were able to brake and start manouvering before your mouth started to move - even if it was a "late" reaction it was an absurd godspeed fast move you performed. At 1:56 you can see flashing indicators exactly in the moment the "wowowo" starts, which means the pedalwork and decision to steer was done way before all of that. That's awesome!
And because he was already at/close to the limit of his steering he had to wait for the car to slow to allow him the extra amount of steering to avoid the car. Had he instinctively tried to steer away at that speed he would’ve had the back end flying out and almost definitely would’ve crashed. He’s an Insanely good driver
1. It took the guy 35seconds to call in the crash. 💥 thats blazing fast. 2. The BMW left some rubber on the circuit + some debris. Maybe his tire blew up in the carrousel.
Car was so hard to spot until the last second on the video, the colour blends in with the track and he doesn't have lights on either...not to mention he was around a corner too - you did very well to avoid that!
With the massive windshield pillars that are typical of modern vehicles, there's no way most drivers would have seen that car until they were less than 30 meters away. The GR Yaris is an awesome car but does not have great forward visibility.
Yes, you have to intentionally peak around the pillar to see if there's anything worth knowing. I hate it but I understand that even with high strength steel you have to make those pillars pretty thick to be able to contain both strong enough windshield pillar and one or more airbags. And sometimes even ventilation piping. I'd rather have a car without air vents in the pillar if I can get better visibility in return.
@@MikkoRantalainen More than that, modern standards require that in the case the car flips upside down, the roof should be able to sustain the car's weight and not collapse.
I was not ready for that intro! Unless your car is completely disabled, use your hazards and move it out of the travel path. They did the worst possible thing getting out of their vehicle after spinning out at the worst possible place. Excellent reflexes Misha!
"Never go for one last lap" is definitely wisdom to live by. Its saved us from being out during two track-closing incidents. Its good you were in something small enough to fit through the gap, glad everyone is ok.
There are a lot of things a driver is cautious about when on a racetrack. People standing on the track in the middle of a corner is usually not one of them.
I am relieved to see that you are both safe and sound. That would have been a nasty accident. Especially the dude getting out, i do not even want to think about what could have happened.
A minimum, the dude getting out of the car would have had both of his legs crushed by the door if Misha had failed to avoid the collision. With modern cars, just sit in the car and keep the seatbelt tight if you cannot safely exit the area. And I fail to understand how they couldn't get the car to move downhill even with a broken tyre.
The Corolla and Yaris are superb engineered cars and clever made, check out the Car Care Nut, breakdown on the Corolla GR, Toyota just took standard chassis and upgraded using much of inventory parts. Even the big brakes are fitted on standard hubs with brackets.
That little Yaris really delivers! Amazing performance and it looks really cute 😂. You were very lucky in the carousel, you really never know what can happen in the next second!!
I think it was common knowledge that BMW cars do not have blinkers. They must have some kind of service inspection mode to pass mandatory checks but god knows how hard that mode is to activate.
What did they think was gonna happen in the process of getting out of their car in a place like that!? It looks like the black car had an even closer call too...
It's right what you say about the camera view and the drivers view. Parts of the ring are very steep, and the view is blocked by the roof line sometimes. Also, if you are using 5 point harnesses. You are basically hoping the coast is clear because you can't actually see.
I can happily say that I saw the car standing in the carousel at the same time as you on first watch. As I was also looking to see if the other car was going to jump into the carousel after you!
I remember driving on a curved road in a parking lot, and there was a pedestrian walking at the exact speed and angle that he remained hidden by the A pillar until I was almost to him. Luckily speed was slow so there was no issue stopping. But it was quite a surprise because he basically appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the road.
I was checking the side mirror too …. This risk could easily be resolved when there’s a passenger on board: one person looks ahead, the other constantly looks via te mirror …. It helps if the passenger is the one using the mirror, but he might be sick after turn 8
The A-pillar on certain cars can be very dangerous. I remember driving a Volkswagen Scirocco lots of years ago when I took my license. We were coming up to a roundabout, and there was a car inside it that I just did not see but the instructor saw, so he hit the brakes for me. The A pillar on that car was so terrible for my height so it was literally blocking most things to the side of me. When you have to really lower your head and tilt it forward and backwards and side to side to see other traffic it becomes ridiculous. The roof on the car was too low and the A pillar too wide = lethal.
@@MikkoRantalainen Well, certain cars you can easily live with, but that Scirocco was just dangerous for me at 184cm height because both the A pillar and the roof edge over the side window was just too low and too wide. Just try to do a google image search of the Volkswagen Scirocco, and get a shot covering both front and sides and you'll quickly see what I mean.
And obviously with all the lights turned off and no blinkers because that's the BMW style. If I had been in that car, every light of that car would be flashing and I'd be honking the horn while pulling the seatbelts tighter. The most insane part was that they were exiting the car while three cars were approaching the corner!
What....what 😮😮 i thought by the video thumbnail that might be clickbait. Then i realized that Misha is pretty serious with his content. Great content bro keep it up. ❤❤❤

This sunday was fun yet brutal. When do you recomment going there to have an easy experience?
I think the saying from the game Interstate 76 matters a lot here... "Don't get out of the car." He may have dodged you, but he almost got run over by another guy who dodged around the outside of his car in that corner.
I'm reading a lot of comments on the gu leaving his stranded car. I've done quite a few laps on the Nordschleife, approximately 500. It might be stupid to get out the car in that exact moment (when cars are coming at you, which you can definitely see and hear), but on the other hand I would totally not wait in the vulnerable car til a yellow phase or whatever. This is NOT a race with marshalls everywhere and knowledgeable drivers. I would wait til I see/hear nobody and run behind the barrier. Or at this spot even on the grass side as there is a lot of space there. Just my 2 cents with common sense.
If they hit you while you're still in the car, the car will take most of the impact. If they hit you when you're out, you're dead. I know getting out doesn't take long, but it can be long enough to have a horrible accident. I know it is easier said than done, but staying in the car with seatbelt on and just bracing for impact is A LOT safer. (also hands off the steering, might break your fingers)
The driver sits on the left, in that corner using your head and shifting your upper body position to accommodate it [if needed] the side window allows you to see a little bit more on the left than what a centre mounted camera would but saying that, I don't know how the A pillar is affecting 1/4 vision in that car. However one thing is clear if you lowered your speed a bit more to make sure that Toyota isn't going to drop into the Karussell in front of you instead of sending it and just hoping they would, then you'd have been able to have your eyes forward at lot earlier instead of the focus being on him. In the end, it's a track day with rules and situations more similar to driving on the public road than driving in a closed event. I've seen another video from you with a similar incident here into the Karussell before, instead of fully committing to waiting for the car ahead to communicate their intent you sent it anyway. Just take it as a warning to be more careful. You get 9 lives if you're lucky.
I think the most important is that nobody got hurt, nobody is at fault, BMW's tyre exploded. some things are just out of human control. You can just see how important reaction time is in general, 1 second slower reaction time would have had a way different outcome.
May you explain why you choose to turn off ABS system on track ? I do like to turn it off to feel even more the Yaris gr chassis. But I am not a pro and don’t use it on track. What the main reasons ? For all cars ? Thanks
you can always drive on the outside if you don't want to stress components of your car. Same for mini carousel, my daily driver doesn't need to go through that.
yes there is, look just at the start as he enters for a good 1/4 of a second you can see the silver car around the corner, also when you enter the carosel the left is completly open he shouldve scanned before and seen that as he enters but i guess you cant blame him too much as he is on it 24/7 so he probably autopilots most of it now
That's the ultimate example for your continuous preaching: eyes on the road, never look at cars passing you or passed by you :D I will definitelly be fully focused on the road ahead and only briefly check mirrors for faster cars behind, when i come to the Nordschleife.
