American folk song with roots in British/Celtic folk - becomes - the most infectious and iconic blues rock song of the era. Once heard, even 5000 times, maintains its grip on your DNA forever.
A UK band singing an old song about New Orleans. They are different . A young Eric Burdon staring into the camera with that serious look on his face is hard to forget..
The song is said to go back to the 19th Century. The singer, Burdon, said he changed the lyrics to a man singing. It was originally a woman singing about life in a brothel/gambling house.
Make no mistake. The Animals were covering the legendary " Leadbelly" version ( 1944) You should definitely react to! Many artsts have covered Leadbelly "Black Betty"( Ram Jam) " Gallows Pole" ( Led Zep) " Midnight Special "( Creedence) to name a few. So many from the 60?'s & 70?'s were students of the Black Bluesman. Exactly what made them so great and what is missing today. The Roots that bare the fruits.
Remember that American classic Black blues of the 19-teens to 1940s were better received and celebrated in England and Europe. In many instances, the "British Invasion" was bringing those old songs back to the U.S. in an ELECTRIFIED motif. Led Zep, John Mayall, The Animals, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, The Who, and so many other groups, fell in love with the Blues classics and added the electric guitar, electronic keyboards, wah-wah pedals, other modern technology to jack-up the old tunes.
Nirvana, among others, covered Leadbelly’s “where did you sleep last night”. Leadbelly is highly underrated. As are many other incredible artists. I’d like to also throw this out there… check out Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Another blues artist mostly forgotten. His song “i put a spell on you “ has been covered dozens of times yet the original artist remains forgotten l
Yup! People could actually sing in my day - and play , really play their instruments! I guess that 's why I'm stuck in the past. 3xcept for recent disc9overy of Disturbed version of ' The Sound of Silence'. Another really amzing voice! ❤🌺😻🐾
I'm 75 years old and I still love this song. It is so gratifying to watch someone enjoy a song that I love too. Thank you for a great video AND channel. Peace! I collected some data about this song that people are asking, so I thought I'd share it here. _"The House of the Rising Sun" is a traditional folk song, sometimes called Rising Sun Blues."_ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_of_the_Rising_Sun _Electronic Organ: _Alan Price played a Vox Continental_ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vox_Continental _"The Animals (also billed as Eric Burdon and the Animals) are an English rock band, formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1960s."_ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Animals
I love to hear them sing this but then one day, Avi Kaplan was sitting in his cabin deep in the forests of Tennessee sang this. Avi founded a youth A Capella youth choir of young people form all over the world, before he left PTX. Many of the youth who are accepted come from financially poor situations. So Avi takes requests to sing songs for donations for the choir. I have heard others sing it, but Avi did it best in my opinion. Never heard of The Animals? Okay...In another comment, Pam linked you to a live performance Avi Kaplan did at his management's office in Nashville, but I'm going to link you to a live performance of "House of the Rising Sun" that he did with his tour band in Dallas in August 2019. Pay special attention not only to Avi's deep voice, but also to Daniel Ellsworth's honky-tonk piano solos. He kills it. ua-cam.com/video/Hk_Mh4SweXQ/v-deo.html

The walk is supposed to evoke the feeling of a funeral march in New Orleans.

Notice that the keyboard has the keys that are usually white, being black and the keys that are usually black, being white.
that's the way a Vox continetal organ was made -same organ used by the Doors
You are absolutely right to pause during the song. You could even go pee or do your shopping.
