I would have placed her first after this program (and I am saying this as a #1 Kwan fan). I understand why her coach was crying. This is one of the most beautiful short programs that I've ever seen. Like Peggy, I don't understand these marks either. Cohen had a more noticeable flutz and was not deducted for it.
Way underscored even with the flutz, it was a beautiful program.
Michelle and Sasha had also flutz. But I think they were favourites for US Judges. But at the end Sarah won Olympic Gold Medal. Michel and Sarah were too confident and both did mistake.
Both her and Tara Lipinski are similar in their skating since both their strengths is being a technician. They both attempt difficult combination jumps in the short program & does difficult triple-triple combinations.
I LOVE this short program! Certainly robbed here, but redemption was had in Salt Lake!..... sorry Michelle
they were low because there were three deductions in this routine.
What were they
Jorge Bonilla Definitely the flutz. The first half of the combination spin may have been short the required rotations. The spiral pattern was too shallow as well.
the cadence of the footwork into the triple flip was also not very difficult or continuous. I had this at 5.6 technical and 5.8 artistic. However, I felt she was a better overall skater than Michelle Kwan and would have placed her higher than Kwan in the SP here.
She, like Tara, won the one that mattered most.
