I've been listening to Sabrina's music since I was 12 and she was 15, which is around the time this song came out. It's easy to dismiss the messages in her older music as "basic" or "nonsensical" and compare them to musicians who are her age now (so in their 20s), but when I was a kid, this was GROUNDBREAKING to me. It's kinda the same issue with the Barbie movie speech and message. FOR YOU, who are in your 20s or 30s, it's not new information, but the 12 year olds who never questioned anything and their moms who are not on the internet 24/7 participating in sociopolitical discourse are starting to question things because of it.
This song, along with all of her Eyes Wide Open (her first album) songs were the philosophy I lived by, back then. So of course, now that I'm 20 it's just a fun little song, but it's not bad or stupid and I'm glad you recognized that ❤

If you want to hear more of her old stuff I am going to suggest Smoke and Fire and Too Young. I loved her in Girl Meets World and I'm so happy she has become more of a star in the last year or so. Girl is so talented.

Thumbs is a party anthem in my opinion. You can sing along without knowing the lyrics. I personally think the lyrics are accurate, some people (not all) do live like that. Big corporations, working 9 to 5

I never had noticed the eye in the music video before but her previous album was called “Eyes Wide Open” so it might have been a slight nod to that
So the music video came out in 2017, so she was 17 years old, and I recommend you to react to her evolution acoustic session of thumbs her vocals were so good in that performance
Her saying 2017 was not that long ago then realizing it was a good bit of time is very relatable
Yes, please react to more of her old songs she had some amazing ones in her Evolution album, I would personally recommend Run and Hide, On Purpose, Shadows and Smoke and Fire (and of course so many more) I would also recommend to watch her live performance of these songs at Honda Stage in 2016, her vocals were just out of this world:)

Yes, please do more reactions to her old songs and live performances, it really shows why she’s so comfortable on stage and has so much presence. But I think you definitely react to “Sue Me”, amazing song, amazing MV, everything.

quick note: this is actually the only song on the Evolution album that she didnt have a hand in writing, but loved so much she had to have it when she was presented with it.

I was at her opening concert on her second tour, The De-Tour, in Vancouver, and got to meet her, talk to her for a few minutes, take a picture and get a little video with the two of us. It was amazing and she was super sweet. Right away I could tell that she wasn't only talented, but that she deserved to be a big star. She is quite short, but her personality and kindness were humongous. I actually took some extremely amazing videos of nearly the entire concert, as I was right at the foot of center stage, (and it was a much smaller, more intimate theater, so I was able to capture her amazingly.) If you ever want to check her out live, (outside of an awards performance or TV taping,) I have all those videos uploaded on my channel. If you want to do a reaction to any of them, just let me know. (I don't get paid for anything on my channel, I just put the videos I've recorded and UA-cam allows me to put up, for fans to enjoy.)
I’ve been listening to Sabrina since primary school (19 now, god-) and was legit mocked for liking her. Almost 10 years later I’m still her biggest fan and Sab’s getting the attention she deserves!
I personally love this song! It's one of my favorites! So musically interesting, and the lyrics are awesome too! I'm 32, so with that being said I grew up in more of the Hilary Duff era of Disney, but I have a Zoomer niece who loved and still loves Sabrina and watched her on Girl Meets World, and what not. She liked to play Sabrina's music when she started putting out her music. I loved it! Even at the time I was in my 20s I still like her music now It's amazing.

I was such a geek over the music video as a kid because the subway was a set for her Disney show 'Girl Meets World'.
But yeah, so sad people think the lyrics are dumb. People just love to hate on Sabrina for some reason. I like the song now, but I didn't like it as a kid, but I never thought they were dumb.
How I’ve always understood the “twirling them thumbs” lyric and which it could help others that don’t understand or even hate it cause they see it as a random lyric song is like you said it’s about a corrupted system and the situations she is describing in the lyrics are fucked up situations that happen everyday, so the “twirling them thumbs” meaning is about a higher up position/person or like cops or government sees all these fucked up situations but instead of getting up and doing something about it they sit back in their chair, cross their hands and twirl their thumbs and watch it all happen and basically watching everyone suffer, i think the ones that are haters aren’t fully understanding the lyrics of the song. The band system of the down had a song that said in the lyrics to not get distracted by the upbeat of the song but focus on the meaning of the lyrics, Sabrina was awake for sure
