Rachel Tucker's powerful vocals paired with Aaron Tveit's sensational performance create a magical and mesmerizing experience. The chemistry between them is electric, and they truly do justice to this iconic song.
YES! and him and Elphaba sing Defying Gravity on top of it. Also Let It Go as they throw furniture everywhere instead of ice. The barricade is where Elphaba gets her broom.
+Hansel Jesus Moya Rivera she did a cover in 2008 which was pretty good and she can sing it even better now that she's more experienced so yes, she does.
I can't stop listening to this! Something about their voices together just gives me goosebumps! I also love the softer spin they gave to this cover! PERFECTION!
Saw her in Wicked last winter. She has amazing control of all aspects of her voice, and there is a hint of Judy Garland in her sound on stage. Adored her performance.
So Aaron's career and journey on Broadway has shown his quality both in acting and singing. Look at the shows he was in. Next to normal, catch me if you can, Rent, wicked, moulin rouge etc - all of them are big shows, and written in Tony Award history. So glad he's back to his Broadway community.
This killed me in the best way possible holy fuck THE HARMONIES AND THE CRESCENDO On that note, please send someone to remove my body from the premises and clear my internet history.
Aaron Tveit and Rachel Tucker as Fiyero and Elphaba in the upcoming movie, yes, please!! Also, everyone talks about the eye contact and harmonies, but is nobody going to talk about the smile Aaron gives Rachel at the end? This is one of the best #OutOfOz videos yet, along with "For Good" with Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth. Absolutely amazing, but seriously, it would be beyond Wonderful if Aaron Tveit and Rachel Tucker were in the Wicked movie.
oh God this is like 4 minutes and 30 seconds I'll never get back. The voices are beautiful but this version is just soooo boring to me. I feel like wicked shouldn't have stripped down versions of the songs, I loses something. love these two though, just not the arrangement
+Melodicrose1 Agreed. So disappointed with this. Just way too somber for such an empowering, uplifting song. The harmonies are beautiful, but the arrangement does not do this song the justice that it deserves. Don't tamper with the original!
+RhondaAnn Totally agreed with both of you. They didn't harmonize well and the arrangement did not do the song justice. Disappointed how it turned out.
+Melodicrose1 "Cohn has been with Wicked for years and said that he always wanted to re-envision the Schwartz tunes, strip them down and take them out of context. I LOVE THIS!!! I have to admit the first listen, I wasn't sure because it's quite different from the version in the musical. But that's the point...this is a reimagining...not a karaoke, not a copy. It conveys a different feel on purpose...and it does so beautifully. And I think because they actually WERE in the musical, they're perfect for this different arrangement. There's a place for both.
choir90mom agreed. My sister and best friends life song was defying gravity. She died suddenly. This version has become very dear to me. I sang it with a friend at her funeral. We did it acapella. This version is still triumphant but also gentle and somber. Which has helped my grieving process immensely. I've soaked my pillow in tears many nights listening to this on repeat. I hope they release the chords. I'm singing it again at her one year gone date. Which is next month. 😰 hasn't gotten any easier. This version helps. If just for a few minutes.
I think I speak for everyone when I say we are so glad to have Aaron back and active in the Broadway community. I know Graceland will be missed, but I'm so glad to have him back singing all the time
+Kenz0104 No, no, no.. NOT LEA MICHELE! Rachel Tucker, Donna Vivino, or even friggin Idina Menzel. But not Lea Michele. Edit: this has aged quite well and I'm proud of myself! LMAO
This is amazing!! Rachel Tucker was and is still my favourite Elphaba and always gives me goosebumps! This whole #OutofOz stuff is great! Now, where can I hand over my money? #shutupandtakemymoney
The original will always be my favorite, especially because it's one of the power songs in the show, but this is a GORGEOUS rendition!!!! So soft and melodic, I love it!
Something has changed within me Something is not the same I'm through with playing by the rules Of someone else's game Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep It's time to trust my instincts Close my eyes and leap It's time to try Defying gravity I think I'll try Defying gravity Kiss me goodbye I'm defying gravity And you won't bring me down! I'm through accepting limits 'Cuz someone says they're so Some things I cannot change But till I try, I'll never know! Too long I've been afraid of Losing love I guess I've lost Well, if that's love It comes at much too high a cost! I'd sooner buy Defying gravity Kiss me goodbye I'm defying gravity I think I'll try Defying gravity And you won't bring me down I'd sooner buy Defying gravity Kiss me goodbye I'm defying gravity I think I'll try Defying gravity And you won't bring me down Bring me down Oooooooooooh!
I am so exhausted about Wicked, it is not even possible and it makes me so happy every time, while I am listening at my work on my break. It is giving me so much energy I live in London and the next stage of my dreaming is to see Wicked in NY as in my country we would never have as good singers as in the world thanks so much for Wicked!
I love this version. There are people who disagree with me, and that's okay. It is not trying to say that this version is better, or the other version. It is simply just showing a different style. Rachel is amazing, Aaron is amazing, and every other Elphaba and Fiyero are amazing.
I recently watched her live this past December at the Gershwin Theatre in New York, and it was AMAZING!! Also, when they make this into a movie, my #1 choice for Fiyero is the beautifully talented and handsome, Aaron Tveit!
Well, the hardcore Wicked fans are definitely going to flay me on this but I actually prefer this version to the original, especially outside of the context of the show... It doesn't convey the right emotion Elphaba needs to express at this point in the story but it's the one song i've always found ever so slightly dissonant. I appreciate the vocal mastery the original requires but it's never hit me like it's meant to and this version I find absolutely incredible. This I could listen to on repeat.
Love this performance and their vocals are great together but it's hilarious how everyone is romanticizing them looking at each other when it's literally sort of necessary when they're trying to hit harmonies at the same time so it sounds as neat as it does.
Amazing rendition of one of the best songs from the musical! I tend to be stingy with my love when it comes to Wicked songs not sung by Kristin and Idena, but this is pretty damn good!
I dont.. she´s not good enough for a role like this in a movie.. tho she´s fine.. He´s nice.. but not so good too.. we had a lot of good fiyero´s in Wicked..
Just a week ago I was in London and I saw her performing in wicked! Her voice was so strong and sweet at the same time! Such an amazing artist! I fell in love with her voice!
idk how I ended up here but this is just amazing. But idk why this song (or at least this version) somehow reminded me of "if I never knew you" from Pocahontas' credit roll
+Joymarie Martir now that explained why I'm so enchanted by this song the first time I heard it. Both are wonderful piece of works. Thanks for the info!
can't wait to see him and Laura Osnes in the new Hallmark Movie i love the two so mutch the best pair but Rachel is fantastic i have chills every time I hear this duet version of one of my favorite songs from Wicked
Every sound that comes out of that man is gorgeous.
Sarah Cook yeah! I agree too. Hes sooO good! 👍🏼
That's the one thing EVERYONE can agree on
Even his farts
His father has an amazing voice as well
Rachel Tucker's powerful vocals paired with Aaron Tveit's sensational performance create a magical and mesmerizing experience. The chemistry between them is electric, and they truly do justice to this iconic song.
Their voices match so beautifully.
YES
I love you peter please make musical accapella videos
+Peter Hollens I'm just scrolling through the comment section, minding my own business, when all of a sudden, a Peter Hollens appears. XD
+Peter Hollens whoa you like Aaron Tveit? I love you even more. Have you done a version of this song, because I would love it if you did.
+Laura Yackel I'm just scrolling through the comment section, minding my own business, when all of a sudden, a Laura Yackel appears!! I know you!! :'D
lillywhy Who are you? Have we met? ;)
I imagined that this was going to be the cast and I was like "so... Aaron Tveit would be Elphaba? Because honestly I'm fine with that."
Aaron could just play every character. Wicked: Tveit Edition
+Sami Popcornpup and add Enjolras just for the heck of it. "WHY BE WICKED WHEN YOU CAN BUILD A BARRICADE FOR FRANCE" *tosses hair*
+Leeanna Barfield Enjolras builds a barricade in front of Shiz and refuses to take it down until they rehire Dr. Dillamond.
YES! and him and Elphaba sing Defying Gravity on top of it. Also Let It Go as they throw furniture everywhere instead of ice. The barricade is where Elphaba gets her broom.
Thank you *bows* You're probably amazing too 😊
Leeanna Barfield YES PLEASE YES
Play this at my funeral. Which will be soon. Because this is gonna kill me.
😂😂😂 best comment lol
+natisinvisible i feel ya
RIP
+natisinvisible I've watched this over a hundred times now! It's definitely gonna be the death of me :)
+Ricky James lol this is kewl :3
The look in Aaron's eyes makes me melt.
Everything about this is stunning.
He really does sound like a Disney prince. Lord help me.
I nominate Aaron Tveit as the next Disney Prince
He's our prince ♡
+Carolina Sanson yessss and he's a Broadway dream boat 😍
He sounds like Aladdin
Sounds and looks like ❤
I died when they sang the song softly at 2:47. Gosh this cover is amaziiing.
This beautiful song is like a goldmine. The deeper you dig, the more gold you find. These two sublimely talented "miners" have struck the motherlode!
Jesus they're eye contact is fucking with me
their*
Shit. I started to right "they're making really hard eye contact" but then I thought of something else to say and forgot to change it.
+TheGingi7 dw I was replying it in a joking way, not as a Grammar nazi, cuz that is uncool.
oh okay haha

One VERY happy theatre geek right now having just listened to this for the first time. LOVING the arrangement... And both artists are sublime.
I love how the singers stare at each other focusing on syncing each other together.... That's real music
Samantha barks, Laura Osnes, and Aaron Tveit are like the dream cast (in my opinion) respectively Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero. Like... Please
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS
Yessssssssss :D they are my dreamcast as well!!
+Vincent Owens Samantha barks has the vocal range to play Elphaba ?
+Hansel Jesus Moya Rivera she did a cover in 2008 which was pretty good and she can sing it even better now that she's more experienced so yes, she does.
Vincent Owens let me look for it, i was just wondering :p
Aaron Tveit is an angel. A devilishly attractive angel.
Their connection is palpable. Harmonies are exquisite! And how about that pianist!
I can't stop listening to this! Something about their voices together just gives me goosebumps! I also love the softer spin they gave to this cover! PERFECTION!
Beautiful, even without her amazing belt and riff Rachel is queen! Absolutely amazing, both of you!
Their voices are so in sync.......loved it.
This eye contact is making me fall in love for them
Adreagayle hi..

The harmony at 3:10 is the cause of my death

OH MY GOSH IMAGINE FIYERO AND ELPHABA SINGING THIS TOGETHER AS THEY FLY OUT OF OZ AT THE END OH MY SWEET OZ FIYERABA FEELS
I cried, had chills, and danced my heart out, all in the span of 4 and a half minutes
Why is this so good??!! Aaron Tveit should be cast as the next Elphaba haha
my two favorite people of musical theatre together omg I can't
OMG OMG OMG OMG IM DYING!!!! AARON TVEIT SOUNDS LIKE ANGELS BEING BORN! I'm soo ready to see him in Grease with Julianne Hough in January!
Aaron Tveit needs to be in the Wicked movie! The man's voice is heaven sent! and he has played the role of Fiyero before so its win win.
Aaron should definitely voice the next Disney prince!
*all the Disney princes.
This arrangement is refreshing and stays true to the core of broadway
Oh my goodness my ears are bleeding!!! I couldn't even finish watching it this monstrosity... Just stop... And this is one of my favorite songs...
rachel tucker, is my fave elphie, seen it 13 times and she's the one who I really connected with!!! im crying
Gorgeous! Please, please cast Aaron as Fiyero in the movie, and Rachel would be great as Elphaba!
I LOVE THIS!!! I have to admit the first listen, I wasn't sure because it's quite different from the version in the musical. But that's the point...this is a reimagining...not a karaoke, not a copy. I think I am completely falling in love with Aaron Tveit. So gorgeous in everything.
he makes my heart so happy I swear I'm in love with him
I love this so much!! They are both so incredibly talented!!! Elphie and Fiyero in the movie maybe?!
I think I speak for everyone when I say we are so glad to have Aaron back and active in the Broadway community. I know Graceland will be missed, but I'm so glad to have him back singing all the time
The first time I heard this, I got chills, lost my breath, and teared up just from the sheer beauty of this arrangement. It is utterly beautiful.
If Aaron is not in the Wicked movie...
With you on that
Agreed💚
THERE'S A WICKED MOVIE?!?!?!
Kenz0104 😀I really hope it gets made.
+Kenz0104 No, no, no.. NOT LEA MICHELE! Rachel Tucker, Donna Vivino, or even friggin Idina Menzel. But not Lea Michele.
Edit: this has aged quite well and I'm proud of myself! LMAO
God, this is magnificent.
This is amazing!! Rachel Tucker was and is still my favourite Elphaba and always gives me goosebumps! This whole #OutofOz stuff is great! Now, where can I hand over my money? #shutupandtakemymoney
It's amazing how much more space this song has at a lower tempo. Simply extraordinary.
The original will always be my favorite, especially because it's one of the power songs in the show, but this is a GORGEOUS rendition!!!! So soft and melodic, I love it!
I love them both. I saw her in London and she blew the roof off. But here she gets no opportunity!
Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap
It's time to try
Defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I'm defying gravity
And you won't bring me down!
I'm through accepting limits
'Cuz someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost
Well, if that's love
It comes at much too high a cost!
I'd sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I'm defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
And you won't bring me down
I'd sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I'm defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
And you won't bring me down
Bring me down
Oooooooooooh!
Together we are unlimited! The greatest team there has ever been - no fight we cannot win! Beautiful!!!
They need to play Elphie and Fiyero in the movie, and Katie Rose Clarke needs to play Glinda :)
Sam Barks is my dreamcast for Elphie but I agree that Aaron should play Fiyero and Katie should be Galinda
+Katie Tucker Yes! I have finally found people who agree with my dream casting!!!
I gree with you. this is perfect, and by the way I CAN HEAR THIS SONG AT THE CREDITS.
+William McBride I think Sam would be a great Elphie, but Ramin and Leo are way too old to play Fiyero!
BelleCat RiddingHood YES!!! This song would be perfect for the credits!!!
1 minute in and I may be about to cry ... this is a gorgeous cover
I can't stop listening. Dear God. SO SO GOOD! Thank you for this!
I am so exhausted about Wicked, it is not even possible and it makes me so happy every time, while I am listening at my work on my break. It is giving me so much energy
I live in London and the next stage of my dreaming is to see Wicked in NY as in my country we would never have as good singers as in the world
thanks so much for Wicked!
I saw Wicked starred by Rachel and Aaron, they both have beautiful voices :)
Why is he both effortlessly handsome and talented? 🥺😍❤️
Talented part, no, he is keeps going flat, the girl strains, and goes flat, its.... eh
This is so much nicer than the regular version. Softer, prettier, and Beautiful.
Yeah, I like it --- actually sung all the way through rather than shouted. Not how it would go in the show, but, I enjoy this variation.
Just another way to enjoy the song. Quite different.
Honestly he creates such unwavering eye contact that it really does make my heart explode!!!!!!!!
Rachel is so beautiful! x
This is why I am in love with Aaron Tveit! OBSESSED!
I love this version. There are people who disagree with me, and that's okay. It is not trying to say that this version is better, or the other version. It is simply just showing a different style. Rachel is amazing, Aaron is amazing, and every other Elphaba and Fiyero are amazing.
Exceptional vocals. Truly gorgeous. Just incredible. One of my top ten musicals.
Wow, great rendition here. Soft and melodic! Love them vocals!!
I didn't know I needed this in my life until now. Just perfect.
DANG!!! Aaron Tveit is just awesome and Louise Dearman is just perfect!! IT IS SO SOOTHING IN THE EARS!! playing it all over again.
ITS THE GUY FROM LES MIS! haha Love his voice
The first time I saw wicked was in 2012 when Rachel Tucker was Elphaba. Bloody brilliant. :)
this a blessing sent from the lord.
I recently watched her live this past December at the Gershwin Theatre in New York, and it was AMAZING!! Also, when they make this into a movie, my #1 choice for Fiyero is the beautifully talented and handsome, Aaron Tveit!

i am in tears, this is so beautiful the arrangement is wonderful the harmonies on point the eye contact and everything i love it so much!
Can this be released as single please!? If not I'll just listen to this on repeat forever 😊
bawling my eyes out-lovely version of a beautiful song.
Some dudes get it all... a voice and a beautiful face.
Such a beautiful rendition of Dying Gravity. I am a huge Aaron Tveit fan - ever since Catch Me if You Can. Rachel Tucker sings beautifully too.
I didn't know I needed this until I heard it.
The way he looks at her. I love him so much I'm so excited for him to find somebody and look at them that way he deserves it so much. Who agrees?
Any ideas of future rearrangements anyone? A jazz Sentimental Man? A heavy metal Thank Goodness?
+Lego Zelda I'm here for a metal version of Thank Goodness
+Brittany Hollingsworth Yes, it would be awesome.
+Brittany Hollingsworth YES

Those harmonies beautiful!
Amazing rendition of one of the best songs from the musical! I tend to be stingy with my love when it comes to Wicked songs not sung by Kristin and Idena, but this is pretty damn good!
What lovely voices & sublime duet! Gave me goosebumps. Love it. I am grateful for folks who can do this & when they share it with us all.
Aaron is amazing!!!
I hope he's Fiyero in the upcoming movie.
My dream pairing finally came true omg! My favorite Elphie and Fiyero! Brb... Crying literally... T.T

+Di va IWHP Finally someone who thinks the same thing! Probably because they have the same composer, Schwartz. :3

Unbelievable! This is just perfect!! I love this song and I listened to so many versions of this but this one is perfect!
