7:10 When you get ready to cut your
bolt, (if you haven't bought the shorter
yz bolt), put a nut on the bolt spun all the
way down before cutting the bolt. When
you get the bolt cut, backing of the nut
or removing it from the bolt will assure
that the threads at the end of the bolt are
somewhat cleaned, then you can use a
fine file, to knock the resulting chip or
burr off of the bolt. Otherwise,
when done cutting the bolt, you can sometimes
just flat-file perpendicular to the bolt and
get the starting thread about right, clean.

So after a couple of weeks of watching dirt and iron, i got MOTOvated and I bought a 2005 WR450F off of Gumtree (our craigslist), i have started pulling it down, and I used this video when pulling the carby out today! I have bought the JD jetting kit and will make sure i do all of the free mods from the other videos. Keep up the great work Rado!

cool Dave, you are going to like the power now! Make sure you are not lean, i used one needle and bike ran fine, but I felt its not 100% so then I switched to rich needle and it felt amazing.. its usually spot on, but some small fine-tuning can make it even better sometimes

I like your videos man, good tips for beginners. I can't speak for other countries but I've bought 3 new WR450Fs over the years in Australia (03, 06 and 2011 models) all from different dealers and handily the grey wire throttle stop and airbox restrictions were removed by the dealer. All I've had to do with them was add a JD kit to the carb and an aftermarket exhaust system. I also put a YZF exhaust cam in the 2011 model. That bike in particular is a beast.

@@dirtniron I've just bever had any problems with them, I do frequent oil changes which makes a big difference of course. I put a new top end and cam chain in my 06 a couple of days ago and it was the stock piston and rings I replaced that had done 32,000km. Most of my mates ride and they have had various KTM, Husqvarna, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Gas Gas enduro and MX models over years and they never lasted as long as the WRs did, especially the Honda CRFs. I just haven't had any reason to change, when the WRs wear out or I sell them I don't know what I'll get, the 250 and 300cc euro enduros KTM and Husqvarna make are very nice to ride.

So I'm starting with the free mods on my 2019 WR450f, air box bong removal, throttle full range and remove air restrictor insert from oem exhaust .
Question I have...will this change cause the engine to run too lean? Too much air and not enough fuel?
Next question I have...without having an aftermarket exhaust is there an advantage to get the gytr competition ecu?
Looking to have performance but dont want to see fuel usage go crazy.
    Thanks btw...great vids

    • @dirtniron

Great video, thank you. On a separate but related matter, have you encountered any TPS issues? My 2011 WR450F has been stuttering at higher speeds when applying a stead throttle. There are no issues going through the ranges, just when attempting to hold a steady speed. In my research I see that this is somewhat common with WRs. Some guys suggest it is a carb port or adjustment issues, some say unplug and run without the TPS connected, and others suggest replace and recalibrate the TPS. Do you have an opinion on this?

    • @dirtniron

How do you feel on that yz450? does it feel like the power is too much or can you honestly enjoy it?

    • @akathecanadian
      @akathecanadian 6 років тому

Junior Lara I think you should get a 250. We all could be using smaller displacement bikes but depending what you’re riding, if you’re doing Enduro offroad stuff, 250 would be perfect. No overheating, if you fall, it’s not 250lbs. If you’re doing desert roads and whoops at 40mph, 450. But if you’re doing technical, 250.
      - cost -
If money isn’t a problem, then get a 450. A 4 stroke has tons of moving parts in the top end and can get really expensive, especially with a SOHC (single overhead cam). Parts for a 450 are generally more expensive than a 250. If money is really tight and you don’t want to spend $2000 on a rebuild maintenance interval on a 250/450, I suggest 2 stroke bikes.
In the end you didn’t ask for my opinion lol, but when choosing a bike, it’s not an ego thing. Here’s a question for you. Are you riding a 250 cc 4 stroke to its full potential? If yes, buy yourself a 450 and ride into the sunset. If not, maybe even a KTM / Husqvarna 350.
But ya. My opinion. Keep in mind cost of maintenance, riding ability, type of riding you do. Have a good day

Silvester, my understanding is that once you open the throttle fully you are entering high rmp and WR ignition does not have proper timing for such high rpm. Engine is not working optimally, of course it would still run, but it is much better for engine to have ignition curve that was designed for high rmp as well. I read somewhere that till 6000rpm there is not much difference so if you stay mostly in that range you should be fine.
here is what Yamaha says about it:
The CDI unit is the same for both YZ and WR models. The gray wire matches the ignition map to the WR and its shorter throttle stop to limit RPMs. This is done solely to allow the WR to meet drive-by sound restrictions. By swapping to the YZ throttle stop and disconnecting the gray wire, the WR can now access the YZ ignition maps that allow ignition timing that matches the wider throttle openings. There is no lower rev limiter, per se, in the WR CDI. The limitation comes from the stock WR not being able to have its throttle opened completely. Disconnecting the gray wire simply allows the CDI to use the YZ ignition curves that provide high RPM timing advance not available with the WR's stock setup. Besides meeting the noise restrictions, the thinking is that the WR being a trail bike, most riders won't miss that high RPM capability. And those that do, well, it's there if you want it.

If you want something road legal for enduro riding your tall enough for anything out there, your weight, fitness and experience will make the choice. Just speaking for Yamaha models the more sedate road trail/enduros are the TT-R 250 and WR250R. Both of these are lower maintenance very reoiable bikes, make good power and would be easy to learn on and live with. With a 1000 pound budget I don't know if you'd get a WR250R for that but I'd say there would be lots of decent TT-R250s around for that price. Then you have the more powerful agressive WR250F and WR450F, these will probably be more expensive again and the 450 in particular is probably too powerful for a beginner. I'd be looking for a Yamaha TT-R250 or another excellent equivalent would be a Honda XR250R.

@@dirtniron Awesome. I will just need the dealer to get and install the GYTR Competition kit before I make the trip to the dealer. Only the kit is sold out everywhere. I understand the kit is $150 and hopefully, the dealer won't charge too much for the installation. This would take care of the throttle stop mod and the GYTR kit mod since the kit comes with the shorter screw. This would only leave the air box choker mod and exhaust mod left. I feel confident enough to do the air box mod myself but, I still need to do some more research about the exhaust mod.
