You say “ramble and waffle”, but I say engaging and lovely! I travel with you to places I could not visit otherwise. Sharing in your making and appreciating other’s making, like your mum’s beautiful knitting, is so lovely. My husband was in the room when you showed your Mallard socks and he said, “Those socks look like a pair of mine.” He recognized the Mallard pattern and colors so you have engaged two people at my house!
Thank you for sharing your time and all the video prep that goes into each Chinwag. Thank you, also, for sharing your family and your story. It’s so encouraging to have your visits!

More wonderful gardens! Natural gardens are being grown more often here, too, as we are encouraged to think about pollinators and leaving them lots of flowers. What an elegant and peaceful place to visit. Our growing season is much shorter than yours, I think, as your plants are so much bigger and more lush. The Bunny Wishes socks are just wonderful as is the knitting in your mother's sweater. We have been distracted by politics recently, but things are moving in a positive direction for our Novermber elections and now I am ready to return to all my projects. Thanks for the inspiration again as well as the adorable video of Tommy!

When you were reading about going to the beach it reminded me of my beach days & when I was very young, knitted swim suits ! First just pants & later a normal suit
but knitted & they got so heavy & took forever to dry. When I went to a cousin's for a summer holiday my posh aunt took one look at that knitted object & said she
would buy me a new swim suit which I loved as it was shirred cotton & I had it for years.

Wonderful video. I feel as if lve had a little holiday myself. You are not bragging , your craft endeavours inspire me to be more creative and adventurous. I have enormous respect and admiration of your mum’s knitting skills. That generation seemed to be so well taught. Totally rapt in the folk music, beautiful house and garden ,and sweet little Tommy. I’m off to a country Show tomorrow in Parkes,New South Wales and will be making a beeline for the arts and crafts pavilion, followed by the cookery and wool . Tommy - omg gorgeous 🤩. Such a lovely wee boy. Your newest quilt in the making - similarly gorgeous, lucky wee girl. Your mum’s hand knits 😱 wow the stitch work! Must definitely have been very fine needles, a true treasure (a lot like you). The place you stayed - there aren’t enough adjectives for beautiful. I’m so glad the wee break in such a beautiful place restored you somewhat. Sending you virtual hugs from 🇨🇦. You are delightful Pene. - love from Isabel

Hi Isabel, Thanks for all the superlatives! I was thinking maybe the knitting in the past was so neat due to the wool being wool that was what we call 'sticky'. makes it such a neat knit, no cashmere in that, more like the wool from Scotland. The break was a wonderful treat in a wonderful place and did us the power of good. We seem to have been home for so long that it is lovely to be getting out and about a bit now. Hugs back,xx

Hello Pene. I've been waiting all day to settle down and watch. We took Andy's mum out for coffee this morning, then did her odd jobs.
Tommy's growing up quickly. He's a good little gymnast. Our granddaughter is in the elite squad at her club. It amazes me watching her. She's almost 10. I can't quite believe it.
I always enjoy having a look at your crafting table. Your shawl is going to be very pretty and super soft. Andy has been dyeing up some lovely colours in the silk base.
Your mum was a beautiful knitter, so neat. Both pieces look immaculate.
Thank you for the therapy chat. It made loads of sense, as usual.
I've got a tricky week coming up. I'm going for dental surgery on Friday. It's taken 2 years to get to this point, and this is only halfway. Of course, I'm overthinking everything. It has to be done, and eventually, I should benefit. I've got plenty of projects to work on whilst recovering.
I'm glad you had a lovely break, and it hepled you both. Take care. Xx

Hi Angela, so pleased you found time for yourself tonight. When we watch the children and their accomplishments it is wonderful isn't it. I'm longing to buy some wool from Andy, have been for ages, but I just can't until I have used what I have! It is getting a smaller pile now, I'm eating away at it! I will be thinking of you particularly on Friday. Will you be staying in or coming home for recovery? Take it easy and look after yourself, but you know that already. You will need a short break away too when you are ready, it is a healer. xx

You make me want to do all the things each time I watch you Pene. The next shawl you make in those colours will be gorgeous. I've got one in the same base and it's like wearing a silky cloud.
Your point about taking time for yourself I find particularly relevant as I get older and more reliant on others. Not just for me as I recognise my needs as I get less mobile, but for those caring for me, especially my husband. I wish he would take more time for his own hobbies and interests. I do encourage him but he doesn't seem bothered.
Your stay in that beautiful manor house must have been so restful.

You both look so well, My husband and I need to do what you and Pete do. And take ouselves away for a couple of days. I loved seeing the jumpers your mum made, she was an amazing knitter ,I watched her from the beginning when you started your youtube,so I do remember her, and how sweet a lady she was. I loved seeing little tommy ,he is such a happy little boy,and would bring a lot of joy to you both. I am still doing my craft things, I love the transfers,I told you about them, also the air dry clay, making molds to put on things I paint.I have recently watched an English lady that does lovely work, and she is on “woodubend”youtube, she uses board and different shapes and paints with posh chalk paints and other supplies, you would be amazed at how her projects turn out. Another lovely episode to enjoy. I love seeing what projects you are working on and what you have completed, I think it is inspiring not boastful. How nice that you and Pete were able to get away for a couple of days, and what a beautiful place to go for a rest. Your Mum’s knitting was so neat and precise, and the things that my mum knit were exactly the same. I wonder if it was the way that they were taught, or perhaps because they were so young when they learned. I remember my mother saying that they had to knit socks in school for the soldiers. And talking about socks, I love the bunny socks! Take care.

Hi Susan, I was thinking maybe it was the wool that our mum's used that made it so neat, sticky wool as we call it now. Not cashmere! xx

Hello Pene! I thought it was so funny when you started talking about seeing Tommy for the first time after he was born on episode 26 - I had just watched that episode last night along with a few others! Thank you for your lovely videos, I enjoy them very much and still going back to watch the old ones as I have not seen them (I made a list so I can keep track!!). Take care.🌻

I too have kept a couple sweaters my mother knitted my father. Gorgeous intricate pattern work I remember her having to use an English/German dictionary to understand the pattern as it was in German and there was no translation available.

Glad to hear you had such a lovely break away. It looked beautiful, such a great place to recharge your batteries. Did you take some knitting along I wonder, or do you just chill? Memories came flooding back of the seaside when you continued with your story. When we settled on the sand, Mum would go and buy a jug of tea, fizzy drinks for us children, and then the castle building competition would begin. Happy days. Your quilt is coming along very quickly and is looking great. Tommy is just gorgeous, doesn't the time fly? I'm just starting a winter sweater which is knit in the round, a first for me, with a patterned yolke. We'll see how it goes. Take care. Thanks Pene

Hi Linda, I took my knitting for the train and QAYG sewing for the hotel. I can never just 'chill'. Jug of tea, that's it, no paper cups, a tray with proper cups and saucers that we would take back and then as you say the cars and trains being built in the sand!. I just can't believe how Tommy changes every week, time does just that, flies. Enjoy your knitting in the round as you know I have done a couple now and really enjoyed knitting them, they are very comfortable too. Good to have challenges. Take care. xx

You both look really well. The break has like you said done you the world of good. I agree re the benefits short breaks. We got a rail card this year & every month go off for a couple of nights away by train & feel better for it. Oh I had one of the swimming costumes you mentioned. Mine was blue, didn’t know they came from Woolworths thanks for mentioning that. Have recommended your channel to a dear friend of mine I think she will like it. Take care both of you. Dianne

I love hearing your story and hearing about the things you get up to. In this episode you took Steve (husband) and i back to when we both lived in Cornwall. We would bisit Meva quite often and once we'd had our daughters, would visit Carhaze with Steve's parents. Steve tells a dtory of almost being swept out to sea at Crantock when he was a teenager.
You are very sendible to take time out for yourselves.
Steve and i, at present anyway, find thst we can be together in a different place for a while, it helps us. We're staying at our daughter's for a few days, using their house while she and the family are on holiday. We visited Wallingford the other day where Agatha Christie lived for a while with her husband and is buried in the churchyard there. There's also a bench with a bronze statue of her sitting.

Caerhays is similar to Crantock I think the same type of bay, How frightening for Steve. We are made much more aware of this type of thing now.
Being in a different place seems to settle the mind and helps I think. How interesting to visit Wallingford, thanks for the info. Take care. xx

Hello there Pene - what a lovely episode with so many wonderful highlights!! I loved looking at what’s on your craft table- such pretty projects- but the Bunny Wishes socks were my favourite! I’m reasonably new to sock making so I might get a few more pairs done before I tackle colourwork ones. My gosh- you hit the nail on the head when you talked about asking “What do I need? what’s right for me just now?” especially when it comes to our mental and emotional health! I come from a long line of “martyr type mothers “ who put their own needs last (they were totally wonderful mothers but….) and in my case, being a mother of 3 gorgeous adult children, 2 beautiful little granddaughters and a recently retired teacher- I’ve had a most upsy and downsy start to my retirement- as I sometimes told my students who seemed lost- I was like a sheep 🐑 in a cow 🐄 paddock. But I’m happy to report that 8 months later I seem to be feeling settled and very content 😊 so words like yours just confirm what I’ve been thinking! Apologies for my ramble but your words make such sense! Your trip away looked absolutely delightful and I’m pleased you enjoyed lovely weather- last week we seemed to be emerging from Winter with temperatures up to 20 degrees but this week we’re plunged back into Winter with roaring gales, teeming rain, the temperature is 9 degrees and we have snow on our beautiful kunanyi/ Mt Wellington here in Hobart ❤

Hi Elizabeth, so pleased you enjoyed the episode. Retiring can be tricky! I retired from counselling the first week of lockdown and muscle retention for the days I worked is only just easing. So pleased better weather is in store for you. I don't know if you know but I have done some Transactional Analysis and that is very helpful for understanding where you are. It is under a playlist, you might like to take a look. Take care, and see you soon. xx

Many thanks for your lovely words Pene- no I didn’t realise that your background is in counseling but I can see that you would have excelled at it! I shall investigate the Transactional Analysis and see if it could be useful for me- thanks again Elizabeth 😊

Hello! We are on a little 2 day getaway ourselves, to Maryhill Museum in WA State, and on to Portland, OR. (If you have time, and interest, google the history of the museum as it has direct ties to Queen Victoria and one of her granddaughters. It is rather amazing that such fine artifacts from Europe are here in our state.) We have our 9 yr old grandson with us, and today, the 26th, is our 24th anniversary. I saved watching your podcast til the two "men" were tucked away in bed so I could listen in peace to you! Your mom's knitting is incredible! The batwing sweater is so stylish and looks modern again. It's just lovely. Your rabbit socks are also lovely. I am currently knitting the Dala Kids Sweater by Eleanor Mortenson for my great niece so can relate to satisfying quick colorwork. Glad you solved your reverse pattern issue. So much easier for you now. It looks like your stash on your shelf may be growing?! I just finished the Therapy shawl by Laura Aylor and can highly recommend it. You could possibly use your leftovers from your family shawls for the stripes, varying them throughout. It could be quite lovely. (And it ties in with your career!) You have the most beautiful great grands. Tommy is just adorable. The swim pic is too cute, and the video of him on vacation with his family from a few episodes ago is just priceless! Thank you for sharing so many lovely places to visit in your podcasts. We are considering some for our trip next year. I would welcome any additional suggestions you have as every place you have shared so far looks amazing. We are sailing on the QE2 to England, then plan to spend a few days in different regions of the country, going on day outings here and there. We've been

Hi Penny. I love your videos. They are very inspiring . Your macarons are wonderful, and I want to make some. I have 2 questions. Where do you get your forms or shells for them, and do you have to use a shell? Secondly must you use a metal zipper? I anxious await your reply! I'm over here on the west coast of the USA in Oregon. Happy crafting! Oh tell Jan and your friend to put garlic powder in the mole hills. They will not come back. Works every time!

Hi Carla, I get my supplies from Rose Garden Patchwork. I did an episode - 99 - to show how to make them. I think you can get the same supplies from Amazon but not too sure, you would have to look around. Try Rose Garden Patchwork first.
Will tell Jan to try garlic powder thanks. Love to you in Oregon.

You can buy supplies from Rose Garden Patchwork or Amazon (I think!). Message if you need any more help. My episodes are in numberical order under the playlist of Penelope's Chinwag. xx
