The Sitka Ambient is the best mid-layer I have ever used. It is warm when you are static and breathes incredibly well on the move. Just a phenomenal piece! Pro Tip: wait for it go on sale because full retail is 😳
Very helpful. I have quite a bit of Kuiu and First Lite gear. I lean toward Kuiu because I have never had a quality issue with them. I just brought the SG Helio, but it hasn’t come in yet. I can’t wait to try it out.
I love these videos. It's so helpful, buying gear is such an investment and the more information you have on it, the wiser decision you can make. Thanks guys!
I run hot so the Sitka Core Lightweight hoodie is my go to 90% of the time, I top that with the Kelvin Lite hoodie if it’s windy or cold while glassing and that keeps me comfortable in most situations. Good review!👍🏻
I like the Kuiu Peloton 200 zip top. Warm, ultra comfortable and with a smooth faced outer fabric with some stretch. Very well made too. Wind resistant as well.
Great stuff on the mid layers. I currently running the MTN OPS merino wool 180 battleground hoodie great for people that run warm and they always make a 250 weight also.
I’m going to have to say first lite personally. I would compare maybe the Klamath Hoodie to the stone glacier and see if there are any similarities. Unfortunately first lite discontinued it so it’s tough to get it. But I do like it more than any other mod I’ve tried 😊
It's not a hunting mid-layer piece.... However, my favorite fleece of all time is kuhl's interceptr quarter zip. 2nd place is the strong fleece 190/235 quarter zip by KUIU. Depends on how cold it is.
These all look nice. Personally I can't live without the sitka apex hoodie. If I could only own one piece from a hunting specific company that'd be it 🤙
SIR. Can you do a review on the Barney's Yukon with the Frieghter frame. It's 11,000 cu in. It's said to be the best pack in the world for carrying heavy weight. Love to see a 150 pound sandbag comparison for carry. Reach out to Barney's see if they'll hook you up with the pack & frame.
Axis hybrid jacket it money. Used it for driving deer up north. Low 20s in the am to 40 in the afternoon with some layers underneath was perfect. Never had to shed any gear during long walks and was warm in extreme wind and cold
Kuiu attack pants, under armour base layer 2.0, kuiu strong fleece 200, kuiu guide jacket for cool mornings or kenai jacket for a cold snap in mountains and smart wool socks. If it was warm then attack pants, gila LS hoody, and guide jacket for the mornings
Thanks for watching guys! let us know below, what top you like to wear, and which top we should try out next!

Thanks so much for the feedback man! And we totally agree!

Good review!👍🏻
That sounds like a solid setup and I know a lot of people rave about that kelvin lite! I may have to try it out! Thanks austin!

Absolutely! I like em so much I bought a second one!
Great stuff on the mid layers. I currently running the MTN OPS merino wool 180 battleground hoodie great for people that run warm and they always make a 250 weight also.
Oh dang! Maybe we’ll look into that one! Thanks man!
Well done eval and comparisons. I gotta agree on your kuiu combination.
Thank you!
I appreciate when you guys do gear reviews. Great video, thanks! I bought an entire wardrobe from Eberlestock this year so we'll see how they hold up.
Thanks for watching and supporting! Let’s hope what you got works out for you man! Cheers!
The kuiu strong fleece has lighter weight fleece under arms and sides to help breathing.
Thanks for including the fleece,,going to order it!
Amazing piece for sure!
Great review
Just ordered the kuiu pro merino 200 on Monday. Looking forward to see how it stacks up to my other stuff.
I think you’ll like it!
Kuiu pro Marino 200 rocks! I run that with the kuiu Gila shirt underneath and it’s the perfect combo for cool mornings and hot afternoons
Excellent info. Thank you very much. I don’t have a quality mid layer yet so this is great info to start with.
Awesome to hear Jake! Thanks for watching man! You can’t go wrong with any of these tops, any of the 3 will work perfectly for you I’m sure!

What size you wear in the kiln hoodie?
Large
Large.

what version of the strongfleece?
This is really good info guys! Thnk you for this.
Glad it was helpful!
How does the strong fleece size fit?

Dang! Maybe we’ll have to try that!
Love my Helio Hoody from Stone Glacier!
It’s a great piece
Canis has a pretty nice grid merino you should look at.
Oh really? Okay we’ll check them out!

We are really happy with our Exo Mountain Gear packs as they can and will carry more weight than we physically want to or can.
You should address sizes and fit more- thanks!
How about the kuiu axis, jet stream sitka and the hide by kuiu.

If you were to build a complete system for early September archery elk hunting in Colorado, what brand would it be from and what would it include?
Kuiu attack pants, under armour base layer 2.0, kuiu strong fleece 200, kuiu guide jacket for cool mornings or kenai jacket for a cold snap in mountains and smart wool socks. If it was warm then attack pants, gila LS hoody, and guide jacket for the mornings
Very informative. Thanks.
You bet!
Nice work, sounds like the Kuiu 200 does it’s job…keeping you dry and all
It’s a great piece
Great information
Thanks tim!
Sitka hoodies can’t go wrong.
Which one specifically? Maybe we’ll give it a try
Core light weight and the heavy weight. You won’t be disappointed 🤘
you kind of compared apples to oranges here. Synthetic mid layers against merino mid layers.
Sit still. Move when you can. Wind in your face. Patience. These are better than any camo.
In my opinion, people that seem obsessed with gear, tend to be pretty crappy hunters
Really Strange take, Don't see many folks hunting naked anymore.
