I feel like her maternal instincts are at work here. As a parent, the best I can ever hope for for my children is that they are loved the way Ruyi loved Hongli. Deeply and completely loved, with every breath. That's what I would want for my children. I think I understand the Empress Dowager.
i think because Zhen Huan in a way similar to Ruyi and the former reminded of that (i watch empress in thenpalace), Zhen Huan learn to hardened herself to survive after she realize the darksidenof the harem life, becoming ruthless and climbed for power for the safety of her daughters and sons. Ruyi never want that power in the first place, she just want Hongli. She also never want to scheming or killing and she stand by that till the end of life (unless if she was on defense). From cuttinng her hair to standing up for others who is wrong, Ruyi is a character that deconstruct the scheming battle of harem life drama such as Yanxi and its prequel Empress in the Palace, but also a reconstruct of traditional hero/heroine that truly stand up for kindness and justice. Thats why Zhen Huan was impressed with Ruyi, of how she can still mantain such kindness, love, and/or you can say, humanity, even years after living in the harem. This show also deconstruct the “You either die a hero, or live long enough till you become a villain.” in such uniqe way
The title of this clip is wrong! Unless the translation is completely wrong, he never said sorry he basically said the past is in the past and never beg for her forgiveness for the many years of mistreatments that she suffered from not only him but others around them! He messed up big time!
5:29-6:15 This scene with the Dowager is when Ruyi's Royal Love comes out and admits that it wants to deconstruct the harem battle trope. Instead of featuring a heroine who becomes completely ruthless and outlives her emperor and lives to become an old woman with lots of power but also many regrets in her life, our girl Ruyi dies peacefully, having accomplished all that she could still hope to accomplish by that point in her life and with no regrets, never losing that final sliver of her original kindness and sense of justice until the very end. All other harem heroines end the story by sighing and taking a nap as they reflect on all the suffering they endured in the palace and how they wish they made their decisions differently. Ruyi goes out accepting that what happened was supposed to happen and instead questions whether or not everyone was truly to blame for their actions, before entertaining herself with a harmless, make-believe scenario where everyone is happy and dying as though she had just fallen asleep. Unlike other heroines, Ruyi had nothing to prove to anyone when she died, and it was left to the other characters to understand why she chose to let her life end. Hailan is the stereotypical harem battle heroine, and the fact that you can see how different Ruyi is from her really shows that the show was trying to do something that other harem series didn't do with their heroines. Hailan ends up losing her sworn sister and her son, keeping her life and status at the cost of everyone she loved, just like the usual harem heroine. When she eventually passed away, she probably didn't do it as peacefully as Ruyi did. I believe Ruyi's Royal Love succeeded in what it set out to do, or at least did a good enough job to give it a solid place in the harem battle genre. Its second half definitely outshines Story of Yanxi Palace. Yanxi's storytelling quality is consistently high, whereas Ruyi starts off too slow for its own good but takes off once Ruyi becomes empress and starts steadily going upwards until it eventually surpasses Yanxi in its last leg of episodes, and then keeps on going to become truly fantastic
For me, I couldn’t compare Yanxi palace and ruyi’s royal love because of their differences. Yanxi palace was a little unrealistic and Mary Sue and Ruyis royal love was way too realistic and slow. But both dramas had their merit. And I did enjoy them.
@@snigdhakhadka5867 My problem with Yanxi Palace, aside from the fact that the acting is laughably mediocre compared to the artistry in Ruyi, is it's being presented as a historical, when it should be called a costume drama that uses names from history. It was incredibly grating to see Ling act all ✨sassy girl✨ when that impudence would've gotten her beaten up amd executed within a week. Not to mention historical accounts say the very reason Qianlong favored her was because she was docile and indulgent, more like Ling in Ruyi.
After hearing her words, the emperor should definitely realize that Ruyi and him are over. He lost her forever due to his own selfishness and fault. He broke her heart to pieces and there's no way to patch things up.
Watching this a month later ( I’ve watched this drama series 4x, after refusing to watch the whole series because of the sadness) this speech by the dowager empress is the saddest blow to the dumb emperor. She spoke words of truth, about Ruyi’s pure nature, which should make him regret his treatment of her all his life.

she would not accept it even if he apologized . too much hurt is between them and she knew she is dying soon so she did not want to carry that weight in the end of her life
She left him, she finally freed herself. Such beautiful woman inside out, loved and chose the wrong person. Everyone inside the palace will not able to escape this tragic end, even the emperor.

This is what happens when you as a woman compromise yourself for a man with different values. Poor Ruyi, she was naive enough to believe love would be enough in their relationship, but the emperor could never appreciate her. Would have been happier in a normal family and life.
The empress dowager had respect and admiration for Ruyi from the day she give her a choice of her or her aunt who was the empress at that time drink posion to end her life. Without a single pause Ruyi said she herself will take it if the empress dowager allowed her aunt to live out the rest of her life away from the palace. Many times her respect for Ruyi grew such as when she got the emperor to remodel and allow the dowager to live in the main palace. Or when Ruyi didn't spill the beans to the emperor that her aunt was made to kill herself. Or the time Ruyi was framed and forced to live in the cold palace for 3 years she saved the life of dowager by standing in front of a mad woman who tried to stab the dowager. She didn't even flinch when the knife was a second away from cutting her throat and the first thing Ruyi did after the guards subdued the woman was ask the dowager if she was ok. There at least 6 other great moments that the dowager knew Ruyi was the stuff legends are made from. The empress dowager had more love for Ruyi than that useless low life rat of a emperor the whore sheep he was. And she repaid Ruyi by helping to keep her safe when the rat had her cornered to be murdered by the demon whores he loved to believe and listen to and declare to everyone his distain and distrust of Ruyi. Still she loved him and stood by his side until near her death she stood on her own side and loved her own self. 💔💔💔
How many times has this man, who claimed to love her, believe someone else over her....and how many times has she forgiven him? She had enough...and I don't blame him.
The dowager is as responsible for her son's actions as her son. He was going to marry her first but the dowager prevented it. She created the monster in him. Every time ruyi tried to save the emperor from destruction his mother took over and sabotaged his life.

She DID tell all of them the truth and she was loyal to her words till the very end. She never did any harm and only wanted to be with her true love. But did y'all listen? Nope. The whole lot of you thought she schemed or could be used as a pawn in your merry little game of power. They lost in the end.
For once a great story without the many frivolous lengthenings. Shows what veteran actors can accomplish just like in the Rebel Princess and the Longest day in Chang'an. Superb acting by Wallace and the others. Worth watching. Keep it up!
Yes. This show may not be everyone's cup of tea in terms of historical accuracy but the acting is superb. For once, I am absorbed and feel like they are all real. The aesthetics are soo good. The plot doesn't need superficial excitement. They show the story as it unfolds, this can only be achieved through excellent acting. The actors don't need artificial plot thickening to tell the story.
The empress dowager see the sincerity ,love and being fair of Ruyi , she admire and respect her because of that.He realize the big mistake he's done to his Empress but its too late.
Ruyi had to pay for everything that she didn't even ask for in the first place.. she didn't wish to be the only wife, the most favoured one or even the empress. Yet she was always treated badly because the emperor would display his love for her but fail miserably in protecting her. If he hadn't been so stupid and egoistic from the beginning she wouldn't have suffered so much.
Too little too late for Hongli.....too late to take back what he said & done, too late to undo the harm for putting Ruyi thru so much grief, too late for bring the spark anew when the it went out & the ashes turned cold. He was the blind egotisical buffoon who took other peoples words over Ruyi's when he grew up with her when her aunt was married to his father. Too late for him in the end.
Can someone tell me why she never became the first Empress in the first place?? Like I got pieces of it by watching some of these clips that's so people interfered and didn't want ruyi to marry the emperor to be the empress.

I started watching this drama the emperor was a piece of work..only loving himself hurting the only person who truly care & love him..the love she had f turn into hate..
The emperor knew how she was,when she was young, he love that part of her, after he marry her and the others women, he had share his time with the other women , he believes one man and many women, she believes in one man and one woman together as one
He never once apologised, he should have got down on bended knee for all the wrongs he did to this amazing woman, she was the only one who truly loved him and stayed loyal. he was adisgusting human being. This episode is getting close to the end is rounding up of everything that lane l i n g did to the queen because she wanted to take the information her his wife and gave her a status she went crazy not the emperor not his second wife but this one that's close to him she killed many of her of his children and now everything is coming to a head because the Queen the empress only had three months to live and I don't know if she made it 3 months but she that's all she had and then them three months isn't she was going to take revenge on this woman for what she did everybody in the Harem got together to help her to bring this woman down because the emperor they all knew that if they didn't all he was going to do is put it on the shoulder and let her walk see this guy knew what his first the queen did he knows what that's going on in his hair so don't think that he didn't but he just closed his eyes and act like nothing what's happening even though they were killing his own children he acted like he didn't

That's a brilliant analysis. I had the same feeling with yanxi. Until i haven't rewatched it yet, but always come back to ruyi. Reminds me of zhenhuan

She didn't even flinch when the knife was a second away from cutting her throat and the first thing Ruyi did after the guards subdued the woman was ask the dowager if she was ok. There at least 6 other great moments that the dowager knew Ruyi was the stuff legends are made from. The empress dowager had more love for Ruyi than that useless low life rat of a emperor the whore sheep he was. And she repaid Ruyi by helping to keep her safe when the rat had her cornered to be murdered by the demon whores he loved to believe and listen to and declare to everyone his distain and distrust of Ruyi. Still she loved him and stood by his side until near her death she stood on her own side and loved her own self. 💔💔💔
I swear he took every single thing he could from her. At this point she had nothing left for him to take.
To be fair to the historical Ruyi of the Ula- Nara clan the empire wasn't worthy of you all.
How many times has this man, who claimed to love her, believe someone else over her....and how many times has she forgiven him? She had enough...and I don't blame him.
The dowager is as responsible for her son's actions as her son. He was going to marry her first but the dowager prevented it. She created the monster in him. Every time ruyi tried to save the emperor from destruction his mother took over and sabotaged his life.

For once a great story without the many frivolous lengthenings. Shows what veteran actors can accomplish just like in the Rebel Princess and the Longest day in Chang'an. Superb acting by Wallace and the others. Worth watching. Keep it up!
Yes. This show may not be everyone's cup of tea in terms of historical accuracy but the acting is superb. For once, I am absorbed and feel like they are all real. The aesthetics are soo good.
The plot doesn't need superficial excitement. They show the story as it unfolds, this can only be achieved through excellent acting. The actors don't need artificial plot thickening to tell the story.
The empress dowager see the sincerity ,love and being fair of Ruyi , she admire and respect her because of that.He realize the big mistake he's done to his Empress but its too late.
Ruyi had to pay for everything that she didn't even ask for in the first place.. she didn't wish to be the only wife, the most favoured one or even the empress. Yet she was always treated badly because the emperor would display his love for her but fail miserably in protecting her. If he hadn't been so stupid and egoistic from the beginning she wouldn't have suffered so much.
Too little too late for Hongli.....too late to take back what he said & done, too late to undo the harm for putting Ruyi thru so much grief, too late for bring the spark anew when the it went out & the ashes turned cold. He was the blind egotisical buffoon who took other peoples words over Ruyi's when he grew up with her when her aunt was married to his father. Too late for him in the end.

Can someone tell me why she never became the first Empress in the first place?? Like I got pieces of it by watching some of these clips that's so people interfered and didn't want ruyi to marry the emperor to be the empress.
