Great video. There are a lot of reasons for sales to be slow. Some people are blaming ebay, but the reality is inflation is raising faster than incomes. The heat this summer has caused really high electric bills. People are fearful of where the economy is going. I know I personally have less disposable income than I've had in the past.

The most important trait of a reseller is the ability to be flexible in all aspects of the business. We seem to be constantly bobbing & weaving and re-inventing ourselves!

I send out offers on the second Thursday of every month.
Customers have 48 hours to accept and (usually) get paid on Friday.
The middle of the month is when people have the most disposable income (furthest time from rent payment) and most likely to spend.

I am seeing more and more of these videos from people who have been as successful on eBay as just about anyone. It is plain to see that the days of making a full time living selling thrifted/ yard sale items is coming to an end. I am grateful that some of you bigger channels are addressing it honestly instead of making it sound like everything is fine.

I do 3-5% promoted and send offers at 10%, I turn counter offer off if it's a new item and leave on if it's older. Also, stopped sales as I've found it slows down all my store sales.
Newsletter seems like a great idea for you, especially with what you sell. People may get a mix of items one week and then with mainly pet stuff or action figures etc the next. You'll have a nice broad range and some a bit more targeted.
Ultimately, most of the ebay marketing tools are there as they want you to make sales. It has to be a good to shake things up a bit.

$600 a day on 2100 listings that is very nice congrats. I totally agree on the markdown sales. I do 5% promoted to I would not recommend lowering your promoted. I send out offers all day long. Do you sell similar off of other peoples listings ?
    I do markdown sales
    Buyer group coupons
When I have a buyer that just purchased items I send them a message Telling them I combine shipping if they ad another item I’ll combine shipping etc

Hi guys! Love your content! I have a very similarly sized store and business model. I, too, have have periods of sluggish sales and in general it’s been a roller coaster. Coffee Mug Observation: good observation about the decline of mug usage. Its like the decline of wrist watches. I still use a mug when at home (that doesn’t get washed), but more and more drinks are going into fancy travel cups, with lids. It’s the fall out from businesses like Starbucks selling branded containers!

  • @1997superchickk
    @1997superchickk 11 місяців тому +3

Hi L&C. Lonnie if you’re missing drinking coffee from a mug, you can try a Le Creuset mug. They make their mugs the way they make their pots. It keeps the coffee longer than other mugs but also, not for hours either. And also, they sell lids for their mugs (which keeps the warmth inside the mug and keeps debris out of the mug.
    Have a great weekend!

From my experience, a lot of those mark downs at stores are due to the seasonality, of course, but they also mark down old stock they found in the back and never went to the floor. Or maybe some damage to the packaging. Or discontinued. It's not that there is anything wrong with it.
Maybe go back in and reinventory everything!! I go in once a yr, at least, and reinventory everything. I will edit, recomp, all new photos, etc. I always get sales of those stale items. Not everything of course cause (my current inventory redo) i had almost 2k listings. But I delist by sku and then sell similar as i relist the item. I am halfway thru my non clothing inventory and have 2 totes full of items that WASNT EVEN LISTED!!! All these items have been in my inventory for well over a yr. Those that had not had sold on a cross listing, and I had multiple on ebay and I did not relist when I had delisted in my crosslisting post. It pays to redo that inventory. It takes a while to do, but list a few newer during the period jist to get thru the inventory since im a one man band.

To me this is a big problem...I personally ONLY charge what the shipping is if not an ounce less. I NEVER try and make money on shipping at all....but alot of buyers still complain about shipping...its ridiculous. We (as in non Amazon, big box shippers) can't ship for pennies on the dollar..alot of the times if I charged less for shipping or offered free shipping at my already rock bottom prices I'd make no money if not cost me money in the end.

Boosting Sales: good to see your mood is positive, as you make the changes. My oldest eBay account is 19 years old now, so we’ve seen a lot of changes on eBay. It’s sad it’s come to this. I remember when the work involved with eBay was simpler: find it, clean it, photograph and list it. Now the work involved has become much more complex and the effort involved to list and sell more time consuming.
The recommend Promoted Listings % appearing on a draft has routinely climbed above 10%, which really is an eBay money grab, but thats our new reality. But the more you rely on e-commerce sales, the more you need to try new things. Our big change this year has been to use alternate platforms and local auction houses more, to keep the machine moving forward.

Tinkering with settings may or may not matter in the end. Overall quality of goods, and being the lowest priced/best quality of said listed item is what truly matters in the end.
As an ebay buyer for many many years, I don't save specific stores or check back on specific buyers. I mainly purchase video games. I search what I am looking for, sort by low to high, and buy the cheapest/best condition item. Usually less than $100 is my shopping limit. If it's an item that costs more, I will skip buying it unless I truly want to play it asap and not just add it to a shelf. I highly suspect a majority of ebay users may buy the way I do.
I've watched you both since before Candice joined, and recently this past year began watching every video. I have noticed that when you say you've had bad days the week or month overall is right on track. Plus Candice has said how Lonnie gets stressed out easily over sales, which I get. Unless your quarterly sales or monthly sales start to nose dive, a few slow sales days are normal. I've heard you have then before in videos, and then have great days after.
    You will survive!!

I think you're exploring a good option there. I too have been feeling like markdown sales don't do much lately. One thing you did not talk about that I have been doing is taking a look at my lower value and older inventory. I have been exploring making like-item lots of things put together that I personally want sold more quickly and I know that at least one person out there wants all of those things together. Say action figures that have sat for a year or two, funko pops, etc. Lot them up into the best shipping option for you and someone will find it. Buyers do not understand the shipping side. If we offer a package deal too good to refuse, that has to work, right??

  • @pearlsfromthepast

I have been trying out coupons and markdowns with not much luck lately. I'm going to try a public coupon maybe once a week that lasts a few days but also set up a newsletter private coupon to go to previous buyers. Since they are 2 different coupons being delivered 2 different ways I will be able to track sales generated from each and get a rough idea of which route has more effect. That's the idea anyway

  • @fintanb8413

Bit different in the UK, eBay's not a big thing. I'm only flirting with selling, I tend to build up a bit of inventory, comp it, list it, get the activity over a week, reduce the price and amend the listings to say I'm withdrawing the item on the Monday. Take any offer with profit and relist on the next cycle. It puts a bit of immediacy on and weeds out the serious from the Messer's. Starting again next weekend. I'm learning serious restraint when buying, not afraid to leave something and see if it's still there in a fortnight

  • @sdarken
    @sdarken 11 місяців тому +2

When you changed your promoted listing rate, did you end the current campaign and start a new one. I've found that if I end an existing campaign and start a new one, eBay seems to give me a boost even if the campaign includes the same items.
Regarding sending offers, I've found that sending them in the morning gives the best results. (I send 15% offers on most things).

I did not see you change these 2 important things yet : 1)" Buy smart, chose things from private picks to resell - Those big bulk private" - 2) and less profit but fast sold.( almost everything I just want to double money after fee and shipping. Supposed that I buy an Item 20$ if I can make 20$ after ship &fee => I am fine with that. This way Inventories move way faster)..Also If i buy an Item is 5$, and market supposed to be sold at 100$. if they offer me 60$ - I sold it without hesitant- get rid of this and move on. Even if I wait a little longer I may sell for 100$ or 90$, but oh well I only buy that item 5$..what the heck...60$ sold baby

There are some cologne/perfume that you can open the bottle. Like the item shown in video. More recent years they have become more sealed. Meaning you cannot remove the sprayer assembly away from the bottle. Food for thought.

I run one business account and one privat account as well curate half a dozen more for others… This is simply NOT true. I reckon there are categories that have extra costs like that attributed I simply have no clue about, like selling smartphone including telco contracts, vacations, real estate, automobiles etc. But for typical ebay stuff with FIXED PRICE goes: you pay when you sell. Some added features on STARTING PRICES in AUCTION cost you no matter if sold or not though! Do you generally run auctions with starting prices above 1€? Because this would explain your situation. Our store experienced a major slowdown right after the latest two USPS changes... even though I do have our account settings for the shipping feature in place, when those last two changes occurred, a great deal of our listings (randomly) lost the shipping - so, people were "watching" items but not purchasing - and, not at first realizing - I was sending offers - I wasn't receiving feedback from potential buyers either. Unfortunately - and fortunately - I started going through listings (probably still haven't gone through all of them!) and checking the shipping (again, AFTER verifying the account settings for shipping WAS still in place and updated) on each listing. As I discovered a LARGE percentage - I ended the listing and "sold similar" - OH, my word! My sales increased 51%!! And, as I was ending a "selling similar" I found some items did need to be reduced in prices but for the most part, many needed to be adjusted in an INCREASE in price. It has been an incredible blessing in disguise. All profits for our sales go toward our "parent" portion of our son's university tuition, and those JUST increased by a LARGE amount.

Anyway, just took it down... no wonder I had 75 likes LOL, I was the ONLY perfume up there. Also, make sure to turn off overseas shipping for the ebay perfume listing. I’m already doing all of these things. This month I went through all listings to pass on the shipping savings. I also ended all “dead” items that I will put in my garage sale. I lowered the price on anything that had quite a few views. I had my daughter’s toy items (Lego, Thomas train) listed over two christmases without selling, so I’m removing and she’s putting in a mom-to-mom sale. The days of list and forget are over. I have a lot of downtime at work where I can do this without wasting my time at home. Temu, other selling sites, and the bad economy have destroyed sales. Who has money for a doo-dad when they can’t even feed the kids?

I’ve found Inventory control is the most challenging aspect of this business. Ever since eBay eliminated the 30 day listing and went with automatic relist I’ve found I’ll find items that haven’t sold in months and even years that I forgot were there! In the past I used the end of a 30 day listing to adjust my unsold listings and then relist each. Any solutions??

When coupons first came out I've known a few resellers try it out and get bit by it. (not a big bite. More of a nibble) If you have a sale running and you throw out a coupon they get a double discount. Not a problem for you right now, since you stopped doing offers, but something to be aware of. I'm not sure if the coupons interact that way with anything else.

But only for about 10 days. Then I took vacation mode off my posh & mercari & started cross listing hard. Had to pivot my business. Today I set a markdown sale and I got more sales today than last week 🤔 I've pivoted so much I feel like I'm doing the Hokey Pokey 😵‍💫

Another way you could confirm the perfume is full is to weigh it. Typically products that can be found on Amazon have a product weight or item/shipping weight in the details which is separate from the fl oz of actual product. If the weight matches, then the product is unused.

I sell vintage perfumes and colognes. They all go to the vanity collectibles category and I include a note that says "This Health & Beauty item is vintage and collectible and not for use." I show the bottle and make sure you can see how much is inside. I make no claims about the amount in the title or listing. I also have a line that says, "This is a vintage perfume and may have evaporated some within the package, due to age. I cannot guarantee that it still smells like you remember, as some older perfumes begin to lose their fragrance after a couple of years." The warnings are there, and after that, people can do what they want with an item. These are the warnings that an ebay rep gave me to include. I still try to sell completely full bottles. But sometimes they aren't. I know a lot of people have stopped selling perfume and cologne, but I've made so much on them that I guess I am just taking the risk. I sold a bottle of Old Spice for $25 today.

If the light didn't work with that perfume bottle, you may have been able to find the total product weight online--as in the bottle, the perfume, and the box altogether, and then weighed your boxed perfume bottle to see if it was pretty much the same. I mean yes, you're missing the cellophane, and maybe a price label, but that wouldn't add much weight at all.

Sales in Aug more than doubled July+June. I had tried running markdown sales in july but got no sales from then so I started promoting that only inventory instead. Still waiting to see how that change works. My next change will be to start cross listing.
