The fear about the chopped eggs... She was carrying two bowls. One with the chopped eggs, one with a cleaning solution. They looked very similar, so she made the mistake to give the cleaning solution instead, which was VERY poisonous, so if it had been sprinkled on the chicken, people most likely would have DIED, and Daisy, the maid who made that mistake would have been HANGED as she would have been seen as responsible for those deaths. So that's why she was so very fearful, and then grateful it hadn't happen. That saved not only the lives of the family members who would have eaten from it, but it also saved her own life!
Yes, Cora is an American. During that time period, there were a lot of British/American marriages because while some British aristocracy still had the fabulous manor houses, property, titles and connections to that lifestyle, they were out of actual money, so they looked for spouses from America who had money but lacked all the glamour and trappings of aristocratic society.
I always get chills at the opening of the first episode, with the train and the music kicking off, it's amazing. And thr way it follows Daisy around as the house wakes up, such a great introduction.
How the heck do you not have more subs?! I’m absolutely thrilled to find you’re reacting to this and I’ve subscribed! I hope your channel takes a big leap soon!
I just discovered your channel, and I really enjoyed your reaction! You seem so calm and have an overall great energy. Looking forward to watching you react to the rest of this show :)
The Duke was absolutely going to ask for Mary’s hand, until he found out that she wasn’t going to inherit the estate. Then he pretended he forgot what he was going to ask Robert.
How timely. Maggie Smith who plays a major character just passed away. Great show. Great writing, beautiful production, good performances, and real world historical events are a major part of the basis for storylines. Enjoy it. I binged over the winter. Again.
The sinking of the Titanic occurred on April 14, 1912. So the first season of Downtown Abby takes place during the Edwardian era. Note: during this era most old money aristocratic & noble families in the Britain we're slowly going broke
Your Downton reaction randomly popped up on my YT home page tonight. Can't say I've ever noticed a Downton reaction before and since you've committed to the entire series, I'm here for it and subscribed. Judging by your Raiders tee, are you a fellow Northern Californian?
Downton Abbey is one of my favorite shows becuz It really helped me to understand English /British society and culture better. Im sad about Maggie Smith , she just passed away 💔 i enjoyed watching your reactions, and look forward to the future episodes. Im gonna subscribe to your channel now 👍
@@sleepykitty1985 thank you for watching! I’m trying my best to do at least 2 episodes per week for this channel if only editing didn’t take so long! 😆
Great reactions! I love Downton. RIP Maggie Smith. I think you're doing a good job for someone who doesn't know about the time period. You'll catch on Julian Fellowes does a great job of trying to make sure people can follow. Looking forward to the series :)
Thank you for watching! I will soon post the last 3 episode reactions to Season 1 here on this channel. I'm about to start Season 2, but am getting over a cough.
I have watched this show all the way through a few times now. It's so good. Heavy at times, for sure, but the storytelling is great. I know Mary seems like she's being quite cold about Patrick dying, but in her defense- she wasn't in love with him. She was basically be forced to marry him so that the family to maintain it's money and estate. That can't have felt good to be treated like you aren't a person with your own dreams and preferences. And then after that she's being pressured to marry another guy that is a complete stranger to her (cousin Matthew) who is also being cocky and insufferable.
So happy this popped up on my recommends, there is only 1 other reactor I've seen on here that reacted to this series which is a shame because it's a great show. I also thought it was very popular at the time even Happy in the Iron Man 3 movie was watching this series while he was in the hospital so I rather surprised there are so view reactions to the show. The show does a great job with making some complex characters.
I’m really pleased that you’re enjoying this show. It is so well written and you seem to be understanding the small nuances os the dialogue and looks. You doin’t talk over the dialogue and have left enough of the story to help others follow the story. Yes, I hated Mary too from the beginning but you may change your mind - eventually
Downton abbey reaction ❤❤❤ i love the show and hope soon to catch up to you. Just wanted to say i like a lot of Charakters and others i dont. I will looking forward to see who you like and dont 😂😊
Lord Grantham is a British Earl, and his wife, or Lady Grantham, is an American Countess, she is rich. Titled British males at that time "ran" to America to find rich wives. This was the way to gain fortune by the high aristocracy/high nobility.
It's so weird to see someone react to the characters for the first time. Especially Mary. Cause althoug I honestly can't remember, I probably didn't like her in the beginning as well, but I think one thing that is often missed with her, especially in the beginning....as the eldest daughter with no right to the title and money of her family, she was just fixed to marry that cousin from the Titanic, so that money and title would stay in the family. And anyone else who might have shown interest, would run as soon as they would learn that there's not title and nothing to gain when marrying Mary....she knows about her fate, which made her a bit harsh and sarcastic, but it's basically a wall she build to protect herself... She's definitely not an easy character, never will be, but there is much more depth to her. Also with Daisy, the egg thing got explained in the comments I think, but just in general, she's literally the very bottom in this hierarchy, so if she makes a mistake that puts the family in danger or anything, as someone who's supposed to be invisible,....her panic is real and justified. Anyway, glad I found your reactions, it's one of my favorite shows that connected me to dear friends, so I'm curious how the final verdict will be xD
@@JimmyRenReacts Nice, some major milestones you just finished!!! That finale was intense for sure! Glad I got some time on my hands to catch up!!! Every time my friends and I get to season 3 they get insanely sad, both have major crushes on Matthew xD Whereas I'm more invested in Anna's story, she's been my favorite through every rewatch
Have to be honest, to me S1 was awesome, to the level of other great tv shows. Later, the whole series is quite good/good afterwards. For certain, there's no dull moment. I think you should take note what's your favorite characters/storylines, and see how they evolve as you watch the series! It'll be interesting to know.
This is a fun show, but you just have to remember that it's a dressed up soap opera, not a serious drama, especially in later seasons 😂 Sybil was always my favorite, and Edith grew as a person, but Mary always stayed insufferable (to me)!
Downtown Abbey starts in 1912 and ends in 1926 (I think). All sorts of historical events are explored in the show like Titanic (as seen in the first episode), WW1, the Irish War of Independence against Britain and so on
@@JimmyRenReacts Thomas and Mary are kinda similar, they are miserable so they make other people miserable because they envy happiness, the difference to me resides in the fact that Thomas rationalized this, he knows, and chose destruction because has no loyalty to anyone but himself, but Mary she constantly victimizes herself, she hurts everyone, especially Edith, and doesn't know how to stop and then says things like I didn't know you didn't tell him. Thinks that saying sorry solves the pain she causes.
I'm so surprised more people haven't reacted to this! The first couple seasons are especially strong
