The thought that somewhere was once the home of people who lived out their days, had birthdays, celebrations and many lasting memories, is now completely deserted and left to the elements is a haunting thought. So, from a terrifying abandoned island with a dark past to a ghost mining town, here are five of the creepiest abandoned places on the planet, that are also believed to be haunted.

No, the fog was a way to hide the limited draw distance of the playstation. Also consider that the game came out in 1999 and the movie in 2006.
In the movie, it constantly rains ash in silent hill because of the underground coal fire that's continually burning, much like centralia. That, and the abandoned buildings and cracked streets are pretty much the only similarities and I assume that's the inspiration they took from it.

Matsuo in North Japan is an old town built for housing the miners who worked in the Sulphur mines in that area. The town was abandoned in the 1970s after the Sulphur industry was globalised and the miners and their families left to find work.
The town sits on a mountainside, and is often surrounded by a strange mist that appears and descends over the town without warning. This place was thought to be the inspiration for the 'Silent Hill' video games.

I for one and someone who loves to watch and research this stuff but surprisingly I didn't know about the first 4 locations. So thank you, I get a lot of new knowledge from your videos. I really like that he's thorough with his videos. There are some channels where you can tell they just copied the first Wikipedia entry they saw. Channels like his are what inspired me to make my own.

I live around a half hour from Centrailia and go there every so often to walk around. It has a weird vibe to it for sure. All the sidewalks on the main roads are overgrown, most of the plants are dry and withered in some places, etc. One time I was there and I was looking around one of the holes in the ground where fumes were coming out and I swear I heard what sounded like yelling from deep in the hole. It stopped abruptly as well. I'm skeptical of it being paranormal and it was probably gasses trying to escape through smaller holes. But it was still creepy as hell
When I went there, there were a ton of people walking around and it wasn't spooky at all. *shrug*

Maybe he is referring to the Holy Roman Empire. I know they controlled land around Venice at points in history but I don't think they did around the time of the plague.

Holy Shit. Me and my family went to Bodie while i was only little, around 6 or 7, and i remember seeing a middle aged women looking at me through one of the windows. I thought at the time it was just someone who worked there all dressed up! But after seeing this im not so sure, very creepy.

I've always been used to being focused and kept wondering more about the answers to the questions about the mystery and horror aspects of society.

Probably because you live there and are used to it (and everything's been demolished). I live within walking distance of an abandoned asylum and am not creeped out by it like non-locals are. I'm used to all the paranormal stuff. It was actually weird when I moved and *didn't* have all the paranormal activity around.
