Thank you so much Jenny! I have been using a vacuum sealer for over 10 years, and can't imagine life without it! It is absolutely fantastic for buy produce, meat, other foods when on sale. I have several tips. I wash and reuse my bags, but NOT ones used for raw meat. I always use a new bag if the food with not be heated again, like fruit. I usually freeze food in a bag before I seal, so the food doesn't get crushed. I put food into a bag, fold down the open top, and secure with a clip or clothes pin. For liquid foods, I freeze in a plastic freezer boxes (like Glad), ice cube tray, etc. Once frozen, just pop out and seal. I make cookie dough, roll into balls, and flash freeze on a baking sheet. Once frozen, I bag and seal. I always label each bag with name, date sealed, and cooking/baking instructions if applicable. This really helps me keep my freezer organized too! Trust me, life is so much better with a vacuum sealer!

I have had a food saver for years! It's worth the money. My son in law seen how I used it to save on meat, vegs and fruits in the Freezer. I showed him how you can seal mason jars for dry staples and your potato chip bags, etc. He was so impressed. He went out and purchased one for his kitchen. He's so cute because he's the cook. i highly recommend to purchase one. It came in so handy during the pandemic in 2020 when the stores shelves and freezer products were being brought up.

Do you really save that much money when you take into consideration the cost of the bags, though? Aren't the bags kind of expensive?

Freezer burn is a weird term. It is not a burn. Most food has a very high water content--80% or more. When food is frozen, the water in the food slowly evaporates out of the food and refreezes on the surface of the food or the container. That is what we call freezer burn (ice, really) Freezer burn has little to do with spoilage. Getting the oxygen out of the bag is a good thing, but it will not stop the water in the food from slowly coming out and refreezing. True, the amount of frozen water on the surface is a good indicator of how long it has been frozen, but is not a good indicator of how the food tastes or how safe it is to eat....... I think it is unfortunate that they have not invented a gadget that we can use to see if there are any dangerous pathogens on the food so we know if it is safe to eat........ Cooking at a temperature above 160 degrees is a good way to kill almost all dangerous bacteria, but it is *NOT* a good way to be sure food is safe to eat because Some bacteria make a chemical that is deadly, and if you kill the bacteria it can't make any more of the chemical but the chemical already in the food (botulinum) is not destroyed by 160 degree heat, and is deadly stuff. A tiny amount can kill us.

If you open the bag close to the seal and remove some of the food, you can reseal the bag. This uses less than using several smaller bags. Beware of condensation on the cold bag requiring a moist seal. Wrinkles might be more likely. If you seal loose food like dry cereal, just cut the corner of the bag and reseal the corner.

Aren't the bags kind of expensive, though? Are some things actually not worth the cost of freezing, once you take into consideration the cost of the bags?

Take a Ziploc bag and zip it 80% closed then put it into a food saver bag and suck all the air out, Stop it right before it seals then finish zipping it closed while it is still in the airless food saver bag it will come out with no air, I keep a bag just for taking the air out of my Ziplocs.

Incomplete seal due to wrinkle, bag develop holes, rough item in bag punctured the bag, food was placed in hot and now constricted
