Thank you for such an honest and real account of this race, I've just signed up for 2025. Currently in September 2024, so similar to your training prep time.
You perfectly described the mental fight a person goes during fulfilling his dream and the challenges he/she faces. I can see how well you have represented all of us! Good luck for your next dream!!
Congratulations Adam, a fantastic achievement. Enjoyed both this and the pre race video. While I can’t swim and don’t run very well I can relate to many of your comments having completed London Edinburgh London this year. The sacrifices during training, the effort required to keep going when things get tough, and the I’m not doing that again moment before you think, we’ll maybe I will 😁
Would I be right in saying that to do a full Ironman, you need be at the level of ""Athlete"" fitness wise?? I've a full coming up next year, and that's the level of fitness I'm telling myself I have to be at- an "Athlete".

Had you done a 70.3 before ? 1 year of training is a lot
I had but about 4 years before. The training a year out wasn't very structured, just with an eye on the IM
What bike did you use ?
Its a Giant Propel Advanced 0
