I hope people start understanding how truly gifted the age group athletes are. Some of them work just as hard as the pros. And to realize that the sprint, olympic, and half distances require equal commitment. Those shorter distances require completely different training, but just as difficult. My hat is off to all triathletes!
Not to mention that most all age group athletes do triathlons as a hobby. We have full time jobs, kids, coach kids sports, and little or no sponsorships. We do triathlons because we love the sport, and most days we have to overcome a dozen obstacles before we even get to train. I am not taking anything away from the pros because what they accomplish is amazing, but managing to complete an Ironman as a hobby is equally amazing.
i like your comment, how could I not as an Age grouper.. but to compare the sprint distance in terms of commitment to the ironman isn't fair imho, you also would not compare a 10k race to a marathon. Even the jump from 70.3 to ironman is another level altogether.
@@lukass5190 Respectfully, I think you share in a common misconception. My wife was an age grouper doing olympic distances, and she competed in worlds for Team USA. I can guarantee that her commitment was equal to or greater than many age groupers doing Ironman. Now if you're talking about freak-of-nature people like Gustav Iden...yeah, they are from Mars. Cheers!
@@hanbo123 Sounds to me like your wife has a pro background and would be hardly comparable to the average age group experience going from shorter distances to a full ironman, imho.
Yes I agree
I had tears in my eyes multiple times! I finished my first Ironman in 2022 and know how hard it is. Thank you for giving the Age Groupers such a strong voice in this video and showing those remarkable individuals whom I have the strongest possible admiration for! What an amazing sport. What a gift to participate. What a privilege to finish it.
Anything is possible 🚀
Same!!! I would wipe (dries) three minutes later 😢😅
My husband competed on this day, he earned a place on the legacy programme….. to get to Kona was his dream and it became reality in 2022 ❤
I learned to swim this year, I did all the distances within 5 months... ending with ironman finish of 12h.... I will be in Kona. I know it!!!! Thanks for the inspiration
That’s amazing. Yo have you considered doing an Aquabike or other triathlons to train? I am training for an Aquabike swimming and cycling. I am so proud of you @fifaliana joy.
@@jhesskeeptraveling I have not done an aquabike. I do like to run haha.... I am currently training for off road triathlon... seemed fun :D and thank you! It always seem impossible until you do it
Truly inspirational stories from the greatest sport on earth!
I just sobbed and sobbed throughout this. What an achievement for all
Its great watching the video. Really brings it back. On race morning you are so focused on what you have to do to be ready to compete, finish, survive and nervous of the challenges ahead, that its hard to really soak it all in when you there. This was my 2nd Kona. I wasn’t as well prepared as I wanted, but I put together the best race I had that day, and thats all you can do. Race smart, and find your limits. Always humbling and awe inspiring.
Amazing accomplishment by all participants.. Thank you for the inspiration
i ended up having tears of joy for team liza for reaching the finish 🔥👏💪 congratulations to all the athlete who compete for the ironman 👍
Every Ironman documentary i watch-at the end i always have tears in my eyes.
1:23:22 I made it for half a millisecond!!! WOO!!! I’m stoked! :) #Colombia
That is awesome!! Congrats!🎉
❤❤
Enough to make us proud of our country. Then I saw your comment! Felicitaciones!!!
Sofia , yo soy colombianos viviendo en USA. Haré un Ironman el próximo año. Comencé a entrenar muy duro. El nado es lo que más me cuesta . Que orgullo nos das. Eres una verraca. Saludes y felicidades
I thought that the 2013 documentary was the best of the entire series. This 2022 documentary was twice as good as that one. Well done! I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster the entire time. How many times can you watch Chelsea Sodaro cross that finish line?
2013 is such a good one, brings me back.
many many thanks you put it on youtube its so cool because in eu we cant watch it
So inspiring, congratulations to all!
Personally I don’t really care who is win, but I start care of all athletes who has same sports challenge spirit and make new story every year give great influence and contributions. Such a great sport event!!
Absolutely inspiring!
Ok I am crying, there is so much emotions !
Respect for your passion love commitment hard work & dedication for what you all do
The sky isn't the limit. Congratulations, athletes!
Great to talk to you . I have watched you win all your yellow jerseys at the Tour. Your humility is very touching. Wish you a great 2023
Great. Now I’m sitting here at work (in an ambulance) crying. Dammit. So inspiring. 👍👊
55:32 even as a fan of the Norminator I still can’t stop thinking and laughing about this epic meltdown almost 2 decades later 😂
Wow a very well done video! Great job and extremely pro at weaving the individuals stories intot the fabric of the race. Whoeve did the editing, total bad ass.
I plan on doing my first 1/2 this summer. I'm still trying to wrap my head around doing a full later on. The story of Chris Nikic was awesome. I loved that young mans swagger too, so cool. Of course I have my favorite pros too. I wish I would have started sooner, 58 now. Better late than never.
Omg, every person in this video got a great history behind them.
Fantastic. So much inspirational video.
One day - i wil try for iron man medal.
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Outstanding from start to finish.
Brilliant documentary, this has changed my thoughts on an ironman from something i might attempt one day to something I absolutely have to do. Chris Nikic the althlete with down syndrome is so inspiring and epitomises what it means to break down barriers.
Thanks for sharing! Really appreciate this kind of content :)
Unbelievable footage!! Literally goosebumps performances all around. Blessed to be an athlete and follower of this amazing sport. One day I will become an IRONMAN!!
IM and triathlon in general are something else. Amazing
I've done Saint Croix 70.3 four times. Took a long layoff. Back on the hunt now to complete the "big dance" in Kona.
57:03 Jan helping out as a volunteer, what a sportsman ❤
I literally shed tears severally watching this
xwas there in 89 this giving me those feelings only race morning can give 👍👍👍 come on Joe skipper 👍👍👍
Oof, this had me ugly crying. I guess I’ll sign up for an ironman.
pro tip: sign up for a triathlon, don't sign up for an ironman (brand). Thank me later
@@KlemenSuligojTri Why?
magic, thank you for this video....that reboost me to push harder for my (remaining) 4 Ironmans over the next months
Okay I just attemoted my first full marathon on Sunday. Longest before was 5k. I finished last in my age group but I didn't care. I finished.
Why am I on the verge of tears watching the first 10 minutes of this?
Please @Ironman consider rotating the world champs so we can all watch these athletes without bankrupting ourselves with an expensive trip to Hawaii. Kona is cool, but it would be great for the fans if we could see more easily see these incredible athletes at the pinnacle of the sport in person.
Well that was quick!
Less people care about its a world championship. Most athletes care about ITS KONA.
No comment!!!! You are so fantastic!!! I wish day I'll be there run with all you guys!!! Thank's a lot
Such a great documentary!
what an inspiring documentary
Hey Chris, congratulations your indeed an IRON MAN. I am from Australia and would love to buy one of your orange tshirts.
Grandma’s living my dreams as a high schooler 😅 hopefully I can finish an Ironman after high school.
The word "hopefully" does not exist in my vocabulary. You either will, or you won't...
Great Video. Thanks!!
This event is crazy
You’re advertising is ridiculous. It destroys the broadcast. Ironman is about $$$$ and nothing else.
New Ironman slogan -
ADVERTISING IS POSSIBLE !

14:12 Anyone going to tell them Lisa Norden is from Sweden not Norway?
It is incredible competition for true men and women.
One day I will definitely convert my Kona dream into my reality ✨ keep shining everybody
This is priceless, truly amazing
Ironman 2022: "We are stronger when we stay together"
Ironman 2023: separate men and women
Money talks... 🤑🤑🤡🤡
What a incredible video is thisssss... ......... wooooowwooooo...... Extremly inspirational.... thankkkkkkkkk aaaaaa lllllloooooootttttttt.t......
41:41 Sam Laidlow makes a move on the bike. Love his last name that’s so appropriate.
Some people grew too accustomed to streaming services without ads OR didn’t grow up in the time of commercials and it really shows 😂
No film of the break by eden over blumenthal. ? Wow
Get a camera on them!
Madddd !!! Can’t wait
same
You competing?
@@badsanta7356 nope but I did attend few 70.3s in the Middle East
17:43 omg goosebumps from there on. 😱😱
What an amazing video
Strange to hear narrator say that 37:18 " Fenella Langridge and Lucy Charles-Barkley and have formed an alliance of sorts trading positions working together." There's no drafting and you have to be 2 bike lengths apart, so I don't see how they worked as a team. It's not like road bike racing. There is no reduction in effort by drafting in triathlon. You do get, however, a nice 5 min drafting penalty if you do draft.
Brilliant video, but please reduce the Ads. So close to switching off
Awesome doco. Any know who the commentator is
28:43 - really smart of that guy to recognize the abnormal pain he was feeling in his jaw and arm that it was a heart attack. Much better to quit the race and live another day for his family.
The top ten male finishers all finished in under eight hours, it was truly a record setting day that Saturday.
Very cool! Thanks 🙏🏼
Im crying! 🤩
I love Ironman. This is a very powerful massage I can feel...working 16 hours and watching i keep pushing more 💪
Que sentimiento, me encantó este documental.
Do Brasil, saudações
Great event but the amount of ads in this video make it almost unwatchable.
The ads are the point. You've got to shift your perspective to the where you're telling yourself, "Wow, that was a GREAT AD! How soon is the next one? Hey, I'm going to buy everything they advertise!"...(ROFL)
Get UA-cam premium, no ads
57:03 who's the guy handing out drinks in the yellow shirt?
How many ads can you put into a video...
How long is a piece of string? (same difference)...
The documenting of the amazing achievements of professional but especially amateur athletes ruined by the sheer amount of ads. I appreciate ads are necessary to fund content but this is a bit ridiculous. What I thought would be a great video for an indoor bike session was actually just super annoying. Still inspiring not the less.
Lucy Charles Barclay Proves She Is One Of The, If Not The Most Consistently Dominant Athlete On The Planet. Kudos To Her Talent And Sheer Fu*ing Will.
The whole experience is getting destroyed when you insert ads every 2 min… it sucks! 🤬
Hey, "you can't beat the price"...
Hi, what is the difference between Triathlon and Ironman Challange? Which one discovered first?
There has been short races with all three disciplines since the 1920s in france and later america. But the real hype started 78 in kona.
Triathlon is the sport. Ironman is a company that specialise in putting on long distance triathlons. They call their races Ironman but there are other long distance triathlon races, they’re just not allowed to be called Ironman because of copyright
Somebody please tell me what that Hawaiian words at 0:26 are ?
Isn’t Lisa Norden Swedish?
Is a bluebird blue?...lol
Why so many commercials? 😢
Many people jumped on the wagon to help Chris Nikic once he became popular, before that it was always the same people that did not care about media and being popular they did it just to help him!
Sensacional 👏👏
Do all the bikes have the same speed and specs setup? To make it fair to all athletes? I love tri sports in this discipline. 👍
Obviously they do not. Having completed a full Ironman, I can say it’s an equipment sport.
@@jrparker4804 ok sir thank you for your information and thumbs up for having completed a full ironman man that s very very difficult to compete.
Ya baby!!!
Vinfast we need an all wheel drive hybrid station wagon
It wd sell
Not suv, ugh
Why refer to them as the Norwegians? Kristian and Gustav are individuals and both amazing in their own right. They deserve to be named.
Ahah they are called like this probably because of their way of training .
They’ve been training partners for years.
If they are going to have a two day event now, can I just watch the men’s event?
so good to see the legends! RIP rick and dick hoyt
And next year, no men in Kona. The next year, no women. So much for stronger standing together.
What happened to John Tesh? He was the announcer for many years.
😢😢 from beginning until the end😢😢😢
If you don't think Kona can destroy you just look at Gustav. He's not his normal self. He burnt massive matches
Norge sportsman have a style. Like Klebo and Johaug. If u understand what i mean. They even dont breathe after finish )
Great video, but way too many adds
excellent
I’m
There man
Welcome to the last epic documentary of Ironman Hawaii. Next will be a small town, somewhere in the nowhere of France, or any other meaningless place. I wonder how you will make this one epic. Not possible. Not the same.
Chris nikick bạn thật tuyệt và phi thường. Chúc bạn mọi điều tốt lành !
Can someone please explain what does "energy lab" means in the video?
I think it’s an energy refinery plant located on the course. They call the segment the energy lab.
@@moytheboy22 thankyou!
So proud Nickic
Soooo coooooool 🏊🏻♀️🚴🏻🏃🏻♀️
Way too many commercials to watch the video.
