I like this version too, but as a musician this also makes me realize the importance of arrangement and production. They waited more than a decade to perfect the demo, and finally emerged with a beautiful arrangement that is the In Rainbows version. Removing the organs, adding the acapella choir and centering the song around a bass riff was an immaculate decision. It makes the song so much more focused and compact than this version imo
this demo sounds much more like Bends-era Radiohead - Fake PT organ, squalls of Jonny's pedalled-up guitar, the Pablo Honey-era lyric 'what do you look like when you're nude.' The final In Rainbows track is much darker, more middle-aged man guilt and regret and shame than teenage bad dream. But damn a full 1996 release would've been indie gold....

This is beautiful. I can’t believe that they were not only able to create something as good as this, but then surpass it with the version that’s on In Rainbows. They’re absolute masters.
It sounds so much less dark and into the abyss.. the little guitar arpeggios on the final version make it so nostalgic, and the bassline more spaced out. What this demo became is insane
I love the ending and the dissonance and it's just kinda more raw gritty and visceral. Feel like it's a different vibe. Both versions have their upside but something about this version gets me hooked

I was at that Seattle gig! My then gf got me backstage tickets as her firm was spoknsoring. She hated Radiohead. I’d been going to sleep listening to OKC every night for over a year. This band is so deep in my psyche it’s hard to explain.

Yeah I agree with the other commenters that it’s a stylistic thing. He has no problem belting out the latter half of Jigsaw, which is definitely harder to sing than this song’s climax

This makes you realise just how much work went into this song by the end. This is good, but the final version is a complete level of abstraction from this. Ten years gave Radiohead enough clarity to remove everything unnecessary and focus on what worked.
I agree,sounds deeper and more emotional.I think it is not good too wait too many years to record a song ,because the original inspiration is gone or emotional impact fade away,like eypressing something that is 10 years ago will be watered down most likely. I like the early True Love Waits a lot more too.
to me this song is in reference to the okc tour, or just the pressure they faced after okc generally, which is the reason i think this version has more emotion bc it was made while they were still going through all of it
This one sounds really raw and original. I'm still amazed at how much they've polished these songs over the years. Just revision after revision shows how much they care about their artform. I'm just a little bit shocked that they don't ever veer away from the polished versions in concert and go back to their roots sometimes.

Thank you for uploading, IMHO this is a far superior version, the way it comes in with the big phat E and Am chords at the end to wrap it all up is far better than the recorded version :)
I think of this as the "Meeting People Is Easy" version, as (as far as I know) that was all anyone knew of its existence for years and years and this is the arrangement they played in the film. It was kind of an unreleased legend for decades, so when it finally appeared as a very, very different studio version it was.. mildly disappointing? I wonder why they didn't put it on OKC, or at least as a B-side, or even on the "Airbag" EP.

As a bassist i love the bass line but i prefer the voice in this version haha
