I love your mixing. I just purchased your Zero to Hero course and I'm loving it! But I see you go back and forth between Rekordbox and Serato, and I'm having a difficult time deciding which software to use. I'd like your opinion, which would be best to prep my tracks? Rekordbox or Serato in 2024? I don't particularly like being stuck in a single ecosystem, but I'm still learning to DJ and I'd like to know which one is best to prep tracks and perform in. Thanks!
It honestly depends on what you feel like doing! Rekordbox for more electronic genres and technical mixing, Serato for more open format, scratch-based and stems-based mixing

There's an option for Serato to analyze your stems tracks the moment you load them in. A bit heavier on the processor, but it works wonders if you're a consistent stems user!

The Rane Four is more Serato-oriented, and it has more buttons and features for Serato's stems. The FLX10 works better with Rekordbox I'd say

The FLX10 seems to be pretty amazing. Is it worth upgrading the Flx4? In your Videos, you are using the Flx4 more often then the FLX10.
Would be cool if you could do a video about the FLX10 as you did in the past with the FLX4.
Do you notice big differences in the sound quality?
Shure it have differences in sound quality, but if you use only 160 mp3 tracks it's not a big deal.
It's totally worth it! I'd say the FLX4 can do many things the FLX10 can, but the FLX10 has more intuitive hardware built in to the controller, and has more buttons to control your sets and functions

I spin underground music that blends electronic with rock. All of the songs sound different so it is super complicated. I’d love to see how Carlo mixes a few songs from my set. He’s super creative…I wonder how he would do a transition between Boy Harsher and Drab Majesty with his techniques. That would make an interesting video!

What do you think of virtual dj as mixing software, I have been using it for 1 year with a Hercules Inpulse 500, I plan to upgrade to flx 10 but I don't know if I can keep virtual dj as mixing software

I do! It was really popular in East Asia in the 80s and 90s, and some trickled down to my corner of the globe via Initial D and Dance Dance Revolution. But it wasn't a massive genre in The Philippines, so my knowledge is limited haha

are rekordbox stems worth the cost of getting this new controller? i want the DDJ-FLX10 but not if stems are still lacking.
Honestly, Rekordbox stems still leave a lot to be desired. But, the FLX10 works with Serato and VDJ too, so it's worth looking into!

Oh man, it sounds like you'll need to upgrade your RAM and laptop to more powerful specs! I actually mentioned that in my initial how to use stems video from some time ago. I'm also unfamiliar with how well Windows can handle it

In my opinion the quality of the Stems is better in Virtual DJ, but Serato is much more complete.
They are. Much cleaner stem separation, but I do enjoy all the features Serato put into their stems. Plus, for live performances, Serato does a good enough job haha

When I use my FLX-10 with any Sound Color FX blinking but not being activated by the color (color knob @ 12 o clock) I still hear the FX slightly enabled.
For example the “pitch” FX or any of those FX buttons are blinking and I can hear a difference. Also same with the FX part select, when I click on one of them without adding any effect just clicking on it I hear a difference….
Y’all have the issue? Is that how it is? Can I fix it?
That sounds like a slight defect on your FLX10! I'd recommend having it serviced

Hey Matthew! Just check out my How To DJ for Beginners video! The 200 has less features than the controller used there, but all the basics are covered, so it should allow you to learn how to use the 200 with some practice :)
