I've seen THe ByRDS Celebration at the Ravalli County Fair
in Hamilton, MT back in late August 1997 and had the honor
to mingle with the guys at a Chump Squeeze anniversary
gig at the Rainbow Bar, following their show at the fair.
Terry Jones Rogers and Scott Nienhaus are also in
my Facebook contacts and nowadays perform as
    Rogers & Nienhaus.
Back in the late 50's and early 60's, Skip Battin
was part of the doo-wop duo, Skip & Flip with
the late Gary Paxton before Paxton went to
form a studio band, The Hollywood Argyles
and Skip joined THe ByRDS around 1969/1970.
Sadly, Skip Battin lost his battle with Alzheimer's in 2003.
    R.I.P. Skip. 🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯

The absolute best ever¬ As a teen through the 60s I enjoyed the London club scene but all of us thought The Byrds outstripped the likes of The Beatles and The Stones by miles! Hanging on my wall since the 60s is a signed LP cover of Mr Tambourine Man by the entire group.I obtained this on a visit to Virginia USA back in the day and when l met up with Mick Jagger in Mustique in 1989 he wanted to buy it from me - no way as it is priceless¬ I still listen to them 2 or 3 times a week! As good today as they were over 50 plus years ago I

I'' ve seen in 1988 the line up with Skip Battin on bass, John York with a Guild 12 strings, Ricky Mantoan with a Rickenbacker 6 strings ,i don't remember who was the drummer, probably an italian guy that Ricky knew. A lady took me a photograph with York , but she never sent it to me ( 😡) . Unforgettable concert, and i have to say about John York that he was very friendly!

@@ispanico30 Gloria, are you italian ? The night i was watching the " Byrds" was in Padova ,Italy, and it was ,as far as i can remember, December ( or November) of 1988. John York was sitting on a couch with me ,and he signed his autograph for me ( that i lost) ,in the meanwhile a young lady took us a photograph, and i asked her to send me a copy. I remember that this lady was from the region of Piemonte . Were you there that night ?

I believe this band was formed around 1990 with original drummer Michael Clarke and continued to play in his memory after he passed in 1993.

That was a nice gesture and kudos then, to whoever came up with the idea. Wish Michael'd been shown this kind of respect and inclusiveness in his career. He was a terrific drummer for the "real" Byrds.

Well, there's the original Byrds, then the Country Byrds ( McGuinn, White, Parsons, Battin). Then the Gene Clark Byrds circa 1985 BUT this is the first time I've heard the Skip Battin Byrds!! ( Battin being the ONLY one who was part of a legitimate Byrds lineup. Still, not bad!

Terry Jones Rogers was invited to join The Byrds when they reformed in 1988, by Michael Clarke, the original drummer. This led to a long association with The Byrds, as Terry fronted the group on it's national and international tours.
This line-up included Michael Clarke, Skip Battin, Carlos Bernal, Jerry Sorn and Terry Jones Rogers. John York replaced Bernal on the 2nd half of a national tour, but departed after only a few months, flying home to be with his expectant wife. At this point, Skip Battin stepped up to the bass position, as he did in his former stint with The Byrds. This 4 piece line-up of Michael Clarke, Skip Battin, Jerry Sorn and Terry Jones Rogers then embarked on their first extensive tour of Europe, as The Byrds featuring Michael Clarke. This line-up continued to tour nationally and internationally until Michael Clarke's untimely death, in December of 1993.
In early 1994, Terry Jones Rogers and Skip Battin formed The Byrds Celebration, along with newcomer Scott Nienhaus, who had been introduced to Rogers by their mutual friend Supe Granda of The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and Ron Gremp, also a member of The Daredevils.
When Gremp returned to his gig with The Daredevils, Gene Parsons agreed to reunite with his old "Byrds' mate Skip Battin, and THE BYRDS CELEBRATION embarked on their first European Tour in 1994.
At the end of this 1st tour of Europe for The Byrds Celebration, Gene Parsons left to work with Fender Guitars, designing guitars with his patented Stringbender mechanism, that he had designed for Clarence White. Vince Barranco, a very talented session drummer in Nashville,TN, replaced Parsons, performing with THE BYRDS CELEBRATION on many tours of Europe and the U.S., as well as playing on The Rogers / Nienhaus Band CD 'Empty Room' recorded in St. Louis,MO at Music Masters Studios.
After an automobile accident involving Vince Barranco, Tim Politte, who had worked with Scott Nienhaus in his band, Acousticity and with The Nicolette Larson Band, joined The Byrds Celebration. This line-up continued to tour, until Skip Battin retired from touring for health reasons in 1997. Michael Curtis, who had played extensively with both Michael Clarke and Gene Clark, as well as being a member of Crazy Horse, and The Curtis Brothers had recently relocated from Los Angeles,CA to Nashville,TN, and was introduced to Terry by their mutual friend Susan Heffernon, which led to an invitation to join THE BYRDS CELEBRATION.
With the addition of Michael Curtis to the group, came the addition of some Curtis Brothers' classics, like "Southern Cross", recorded by Crosby, Stills & Nash, and "Blue Letter" recorded by Fleetwood Mac as well as a newer Gene Clark song "Gypsy Rider" which had been a regular featured song in The Byrds featuring Gene Clark that included Michael through most of the 80's.
In 2002, after David Crosby purchased the trademark "The Byrds", The Byrds Celebration changed their name to 'YOUNGER THAN YESTERDAY~a Tribute to The Byrds' and continue to tour nationally and internationally, including 2 tours of Brazil in 1997 and 2012.

Excellent summation but did they really go by the name of the Byrds? Or was it The Byrds featuring Michael Clarke and the later The Byrds Celebration?

    • @ispanico30

@@northernlight4614 Thank you. This is the lineup of The Byrds Celebration, formed after the passing of Michael Clark (original founder of The Byrds from 1964 to 1967). Skip Battin was a member of The Byrds from 1970 to 1973 with McGuinn, Parsons, White. From 1987 until 1993, Clarke toured as The Byrds with with Skip Battin, there was also John York (original Byrds member). Later Terry Jones Rogers joined. In 1994, the band toured extensively in Europe under the name The Byrds Celebration. To this band formed by Battin, for a period also by Gene Parsons (original member of the Byrds as mentioned above), Rogers, Nienhaus, Barranco joined in Italy the guitarist Ricky Mantoan who had already played with McGuinn, Battin, Parsons, York and Kleinow (original Flying Burrito Brothers).
