Yeah Jake’s creepy but I took it as he knows his dad isn’t good for her and that she needs to get away…I dunno I found it kind of sweet that he seems to want her to be happy even if that means she won’t be his mom anymore

@Halloween All Year Round Okay, I see
I like to think this is an extension of the theme of not writing people off despite their earlier behavior, and it was to show Martin's son has sense and goodwill despite what everyone thinks of him.

I also like the part that Claire was "happy" with Martin until Fleabag showed up in her life again. Of course she wasnt and she was just bottling up her emotions like she said in the first episode
but Fleabag is always the way she is and she doesnt have to pretend to be someone else and play a certain role like Claire pretending to be a responsible loving wife and as soon as Claire got Fleabag back in her life it became harder for her to pretend that she is happy and thats exactly what annoys her in the relationship with Fleabag, that Fleabag can do whatever she wants to and she will overcome it and seeing that brings out a certain reality check for Claire

jake has a problem with boundaries which they play for jokes all the time but it broke me that even he wanted them split bc i always interpreted his fixation on claire as her being the only parent that cares for him with marin being himself and his bio mom not being in the picture and it seems to be such a big loss for him when/if she leaves

Also a quick little part that i got only after watching the show few times
Fleabag wants to give money back for a dinner to Priest, when in season one she stole money from her date at the dinner.
And then, some people dare to say she didnt change much

Weirdly the therapist is like a genius, she’s got fleabag figured out pretty accurately. later in the series fleabag admits that more than anything she wants someone to tell her what to do and how to live her life.
The therapist isn’t telling her „actually you need to decide for yourself“, she’s telling her „you’re already deciding and you might hate it but in the end it’s good to make bad decisions because that teaches you how to make better decisions that will make you feel better“
She’s just being super eccentric and cryptic about it.

to be fair, therapists aren’t supposed to tell you what to do, just give you advice and coping strategies so that you come to make the decisions yourself! but that was a very awkwardly delivered scene (on purpose) and made her seem inadequate 😂

Guys, I was raised Catholic in the UK and all priests drank a LOT and smoked a LOT. It’s not against their vows at all. Back in the day, priests were feted by local families of the parish. They’d get a few drinks in every house they visited, usually whiskey. I’ve seen many a drunken priest! 🥃🥃🥃

You should watch Sherlock and the film “Pride”. Very different Andrew Scott roles. He and Phoebe did a play together. Phoebe wasn’t going to do a season 2, since season 1 was adapted from her play, but HBO wanted one. She said she worked it out once she realized it should be a love story.
Claire is played by Phoebe’s drama school classmate. She insisted on her being cast. That’s why they have such great chemistry.

Yeah, I think this is a case of them three being American and American Christians, no matter the denomination, being really fucking weird. I grew up with a German Lutheran pastor as grandfather, and did Sunday school in a Catholic setting, and I was brought up, by religious people, to challenge religion. To me, doubt is a fundamental part of faith. Even with being an agnostic today, I still believe that.
In my experience, American Christians, including Catholics, tend to take religious texts very seriously and not realise they should be challenged.
