I'm gonna switch gears and recommend a song that is also filled with emotion, but the opposite kind. It's a song from her (completely self-written with no cowriters) third album Speak Now called Enchanted. It's about meeting someone for the first time and clicking with them and going home and not being able to get them out of your mind and desperately wishing they felt the same way about you (if you want to be gossipy it's about Adam Young of Owl City fame and he actually covered it as a response but nothing really came of it). The way she paints the scene and her storytelling on this song are just fantastic (actually the whole album is like this - like Dear John - which is insane because she was so young). Anyway the instrumental is also crazy on the song - like it is very atmospheric and it just feels huge and you feel everything she says and it's how wishful she is and it's just so great. (Recommending it because I realllllly want a Speak Now reaction but knowing this fandom they'll probably recommend you do Red or reputation first 🙈) Also just binged your Taylor reactions and your emphasis on how she can tell so much in one line reminded me of one of my absolute favourite lines she has written ever (which is oddly enough the opening track of the Speak Now album lol), it's from a song called Mine and in the chorus she says, "you made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter". Like take in how much information you can get from that one line alone. Absolute genius.
She gives such an incredible visual description of what that experience was like. The emotions she felt are so relatable because many of us know what it's like to be let down and lied to by someone we loved.
This is a little weird, but I am here in 2023, and was just thinking about this very song...and your video popped up on my feed! I can see it has an effect on you- I mean the simple youthful tone, and the lyric "I would have been so happy," hits hard imho. And the production-especially strings and what almost sounds more like a church organ at the beginning of the pre chorus, and then the full percussion and layered instrumentals in the chorus. There's a huge ominous build up with both the music production and lyrics and the vocals. IMHO, the whole song would (pun unintended), strike a chord with anyone who has had their heart broken.
