Great little tutorial with some very valid points. I know you normally do free shipping, but I would’ve picked up those books and charged extra for shipping. Sometimes if a buyer really wants something they are prepared to pay for postage. I certainly will pay postage on items that I want to complete collections etc, for example.
When I started selling on eBay I shipped as quick as possible. I agree with daily listing, you can build a draft bank for those days you don’t feel like listing but LIST every day!!
A lot of good points here but a lot of people miss the point when 1st starting out it takes about 3 weeks after an item sells before you get the money it's not something you can start with little cash U need enough to buy enough items to list 2 items a day if you can find that many items can be hard sometimes you also need to have the money aside for postage for the items that sell and are going to spend a lot more money then u make when 1st starting out and I think that's why a lot of people quit before it takes of especially in 2024 with store prices, ebay fees and postage all gone up the profit margin on a lot of items is so much less then it was in recent years meaning we need to sell more to make the same i would love to see a UA-cam series where an eBay store is started from nothing and built into a successful store with every cost accounted for including all the small things and see how long it takes before we see actual profit because so many people see the videos making it seem so easy and when it don't work for them they quit also would love to do the 1 on 1 call how do I go about that?
As Aussie Flipper and others have stated, the best way to get into selling is to maybe start with selling stuff you already own and don’t need or want anymore. Go from there.
@@michaelpeddie1671 i want to start ebay but I've also heard you have a limit on the amount you can list as a first time seller is this correct. If so how long does it take for ebay to stop restricting the amount you want to list
Amazing Video, Great Content. 1 - Do you really think that listing daily matters or is it just a myth? 2 - When you check the sell through rate, do you also filter for Sold + Australia or only Sold? It usually shows the sold from all over the world. As Snow Season in and around Melbourne is almost over (not sure about other states), you may find them sitting for a while. That's another imp point for season specific items.
I know ebay likes free shipping, so this may a silly question but is there a big difference in profit if you do free shipping compared charging the customer shipping when you take all costs and fees deducted.
free shipping doesn't actually mean free shipping. we just market it that way.. the cost of shipping is bundled into the asking price so there is no difference in profit
What is the profit calculator, how do you list your photos from a computer…. We need a EBay dummies video…. How do you list…you are talking like we know what we are doing…..nope !!!!!
Those boots would be about £50/£60 in a UK charity shop, even more in some of the more overpriced ones. I've been sourcing online mostly. People sell their stuff for fairly cheap sometimes. Still yet to go to a carboot sale which I'm hoping should be resourceful. Not sure what they're called in Oz
Matt, I really don’t agree with your comment on heavy items. Even if it goes over 5kg, the price doesn’t suddenly double or triple. I sell book bundles over 5kg all the time and make loads on those bundles.
this would have likely cost around $60 to ship. I honestly just couldn't be bothered including it in my inventory list. No doubt profit left on the table. I just didn't want the hassle on this occasion
You need to reconsider the large book bundles, it’s my biggest growth category! I do free shipping, but for big and bulky I do calculated shipping, hasn’t affected sell through. Gives my ASP a rocket also.
Great video Matt! :) You have to put a postage price in when you list but it could be different once you have boxed the item up, is there an easier way to guesstimate what the postage would be? Rather than saying for example it will cost $10 shipping but then when it’s sold and you take it in then it’s $22. Hopefully that makes sense lol
Can anyone answer this question. eBay makes me add the authenticator when I list trainer's over £70 however I've noticed other seller's are getting away with selling trainer's over £70 without using the authenticator ?
I started listing on ebay at the start July and now have over 200 items listed in my store. I was getting a sale a day through July but August seems like the tap has been turned off, I am now only getting 1 sale every 3 to 4 days.
Awesome advice, thank you. I have only been selling for about 3 months and have fallen into the DVD and Games niche. I had a drop off in sales when I listed some poor quality products and was inconsistent (Was doing a house reno, plus working full time). This week I have started scheduling 5-5 listings per day 2-3 days in advance, pushing to get that 100 listings (sitting around 70 atm). Already I have now had a sale a day for the last 3 days. Happy days. Thanks for your advice and videos.
I'm less than 90 days into my ebay journey and I'm at 94 sales.
Incredible work!
what do you sale
wow, just wow. are you selling anything/everything?
@@urg454 just books and dvds
What are you selling?
Thank you. This has been very helpful.

Very solid for beginners!! Also using your gut on the camera deal. Your gut knows to pretty much say yes ma’am to almost any price. Great video mate!!
I sold some snowboots last year. Cost about $40 to ship 😑

What is the best way to remove names written on DVDs disc?
I sell as is
Garage sales work the best for me to find good cheap stock.
Done this 2 months ago made 312 sales with average sale of $32
I would have grabbed those books for $2 each 😀
A lot of shipping $$$

I just started back up after 10 years. I would be interested in doing something like that.

Thanks so much:
1. Yep I do! Consistency is key
2. Sold + Australia for a more accurate number yep!

Hurts mine too!
Shamed me into pausing the video to list a camera I have!

I don’t bother selling common stuff, just no point. Why would you when there’s 20 other copies on ebay.

sounds like an eBay UK thing.. hopefully another UK based seller can help here :)
I have had at least one sale 13/14 days. I am focused on TCGs though so that likely makes a difference. Crazy sell through rate.
so gooood
