In my my and opinion, VDH and John Mearsheimer are worlds apart. VDH is sagacious in his conclusions, remembers his times, is well read and consistent in his field. John however, equally as well read, remembers his times, is far more hawkish (if I may -opinion only) and he is very much engaged in warfare as a means, over some thing to be avoided. We live in different times today, and violence has descended from large organised forces, to individual acts under orders, in collective action. Battleships, Armoured columns, and carpet bombing belong to WW2. Collapse from within is the warfare of today. This was recorded before the debate. So, in the light of what happened in the debate, Mr. Hanson was very prescient here. That was a fascinating discussion about WWII political developments. I may have to re-calibrate my existing understandings. It seems to me that the problems in America and the UK are remarkably similar. The discussion about the decline of Rome scared me: the situation in the UK is frighteningly like what happened in Rome. Mr. Hanson's description of the personal qualities needed of a new Caesar could have applied not only to Trump but also perfectly to Nigel Farage.

Not only did he not drain the swamp, he hired some of the worst people imaginable for some of the most important positions. I don’t because that is kind of like saying innocent abused children deserve to have the abusive dishonest parents they were born to. We elect these government politicians in good faith based on their campaigns. We do not have the tools, the funds or the know how to investigate each one. It once was a crime for a politician to get up and lie to the masses but times have changed. People cant help winding up with a dysfunctional government when we have sneaking lying leaders that get where they want through deception and then not represent the people they swore to protect.

This was recorded before the debate. So, in the light of what happened in the debate, Mr. Hanson was very prescient here.
That was a fascinating discussion about WWII political developments. I may have to re-calibrate my existing understandings.
It seems to me that the problems in America and the UK are remarkably similar. The discussion about the decline of Rome scared me: the situation in the UK is frighteningly like what happened in Rome.
Mr. Hanson's description of the personal qualities needed of a new Caesar could have applied not only to Trump but also perfectly to Nigel Farage.

Normally when someone has a bookshelf as their background it’s nice, neat, and orderly. I can tell it’s usually just for looks. VDH’s bookshelf actually looks legit.

FUNNY!! I thought the same thing! Another one with a messy bookshelf in the background sometimes is Lance Walnau when he is doing his late night "Lance Rants" often in his robe and My Pillow slippers, lol. He is a little younger than VDH, but also pretty amazing mind.
Those are the ones that he's recently reviewed. Probably the back of the house is a library that competes with the Smithsonian.
