Kaiba is a comfort anime for me. Not only the story of gender, but also just all the heartbreaking stories of the love that each person holds.

I am so happy you made such a comprehensive list of Masaaki Yuasa's works 💛 Turns out there is still a couple I haven't heard of.
He definitely deserves more recognition. I love how he uses surreal animation to make the audience better emotionally connect with the story.
I've been his fan for several years now and I've watched these movies during various phases of my life. He is incredibly talented and versatile as an artist. I can't even start to describe the impressions his works left on me because each of them resonated with me in a very different way.
I'm glad you showed your love for his animation with such a well-made video 💛💛💛

What a wonderful way to enter the world that is Masaaki Yuasa 🥰 The pieces of media that change are life are honestly such a blessing. I’ve had a few of those in my life and they really shaped who I am as a person 💙 got any other favorites of his?

Kaiba, Mind Game, and Eizouken fucking changed me

Those 3 are so revolutionary ❤️ I really need to rewatch all of them, especially Kaiba. Eizouken totally wrecked me, but in all the best ways! What a perfect anime for creatives 🥰

Not LGBTQ but wanted to comment to say that Kaiba is definitely underrated and deserves far more praise than it gets. For me, it was a huge gateway drug. Previous to watching it, I'd been watching only One Piece for a few months and was relatively new to anime as a whole. Watching Kaiba, I saw for the first time how bold, thoughtful, original anime can be.
I still really vividly remember being unexpectedly emotionally invested in the whole subplot with the police officer and Chronico and moved to the point of tears. I am still so impressed that this anime decides to tackle big philosophical ideas like mind body dualism and what it means to exist as a human being and nevertheless pulls it off with grace. When it's over, it leaves you with plenty to think about, lots to unpack, but in a way that really rewards repeated viewings. Honestly, for me it's an underrated 10/10 and will always be very special.

It is great to hear that the works of Masaaki Yuasa had such a wonderful impact upon you and your interest in anime as well, even if there unfortunately aren't as many people who ought to know about them all. His beautifully-animated creations can be emotional rollercoasters and deserve recognition for that and more, which is also why I too have made videos about his things because there really is a lack of awareness about them, so I really did enjoy this video despite it not being able to analyze all aspects of all the titles you had shown off. Yuasa may not be a creator who can rival the old godfathers of anime that many know about but they don't have to be as they possess a unique mind that promotes the more imaginative side of anime and animation itself.

I’m really hoping videos like mine and other creators can help direct people to his works so that he can start garnering the mainstream recognition he deserves! I’m excited to see what project he do next (once he eventually comes back from his much needed and deserved break)

Thank you for this video! I tried Tatami Galaxy because of it and really enjoyed it. It sent me on a new search for anime that led me to Bakuman, and then I remembered you mentioned an anime with a similar premise here. Now I'm going to try Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken and go full circle with your recommendations.

Ahhhh I am SO HAPPY you liked The Tatami Galaxy! It’s such a magical series ❤️ I’d highly recommend watching Night is Short, Walk on Girl since it’s the movie sequel to Tatami Galaxy! You’re gunna have a GREAT time with Keep Your Hands off Eizouken 🥰

Ping Pong definitely represents the sport well. The technicalities of playing the sport comes across very well in this anime. In other movies and media the ball doesn't look like its moving the right way after its been hit but it makes sense perfectly in the anime. Peko uses short pips and therefore hits very flat and hard. China uses chinese sticky rubber and therefore uses lots of body power and spin to stroke the ball. Smile as a chopper gets low as a chopper would and puts backspin on the ball. These styles are very representative of their characters as well as Peko's don't think twice, simple minded nature is similar to how short pips allows its user to think less about the spin put on the ball and just hit it. Smile is very calculated and reserved which is represented in his style as the goal of the chopper is just to put the ball on the table and make the opponent make a mistake. The development of Peko's style to include RPB (Reverse Penhold Backhand) also is representative of his development as a character because he no longer thinks so one dimensionally and has a new level to his game due to having both sides to hit with. I've known people from my club who I think are really similar to the characters represented in PPTA.

That is so cool to hear that they put so much time and effort into their research to really make the anime as accurate as possible! You’ve got me all excited about the anime again and since it’s been a minute I think I’m gunna do a rewatch sometime soon ❤️ Thank you so much for providing such a detailed and in depth explanation of all of those elements, it’s really made me appreciate this anime on a whole other level 🔥

@@NekoDecoPop I can't wait to see what he has in store next. If you're unaware, GKIDS just released a beautiful bluray set called Masaaki Yuasa Five Films that compiles his films from Mind Game to Inu-Oh, including a couple of his short films and a bunch of extra content. Would highly recommend if you're enjoy physical media.

Whenever someone mentions Kaiba and has to mention gender identity lets me know they didn’t get it. You can interpret it how ever you like but he never mentions anything about it in his words he wrote about this anime. It’s mostly Western people who want to put their ideologies into things that have nothing to do with them.

    • @NekoDecoPop
      @NekoDecoPop  Місяць тому

Anime means different things to different people. If equating it with gender identity helps someone feel seen then why is that a problem? It doesn’t affect you personally so why would you discredit someone’s happiness just because it doesn’t fit into your interpretation of the work? No ones telling you how to enjoy and interpret the anime so I urge you to let go of judgements of other people
