How does he live for 5 years? He directed a Hollywood movie, Chris Rocks special and he got a couple million for his Netflix special.
And he’s got a gig with Sesame Street now too!
plus zach stone
@@milkman8467 those 12 episodes made him rich 😂
He produced like half a dozen stand up specials in that time
Also check him out in the movie “Promising Young Woman”
Just so you know he didn't perform live comedy for five years, but he was still working lol. He made a movie in the meantime.
It's not that Bo didn't work for 5 years, it's just he didn't perform live. In the mean time, he directed and produced comedy specials for other comedians getting lots of practice on lighting, sound, and set design. He also wrote, directed, and produced a movie called "8th Grade" that won both Director's and Writers Guild awards for Best First Screenplay. Stayed busy, just not on stage.
In the 5 years he didn't do live comedy, he was making movies, consulting on shows etc. He still worked, just not in front of a public audience.
He didn't do *nothing* during that five year gap, he directed two specials for other comedians, and wrote/directed a movie. He just wasn't doing any live shows of his own.
"don't use Bo's mic cause he damn near kissing it"
*Bo literally deep throating the mic in repeat stuff*
He didn’t see that one yet lmaoooo
I highly recommend "Can't Handle This (Kanye Rant)," from an earlier netflix special. Notice that he controls much of the sound and lighting himself. He almost always adds a bit of social commentary in his humor, often either directly or indirectly pointing out the negative effects of social media - probably because he was dealing with it himself at a young age as an early "youtube sensation."
He didn't do nothing for the five years he acted in a movie called promising young woman and he made a great movie called eighth grade
"He's kissing the mic."
Wait til you see his live vetsion of "Repeat Stuff," lol.
I reacted to it lmaooo deep throated that thang!
He didn't exactly do nothing for five years. He just didn't perform stand up. During those years he wrote and directed his first film called Eighth Grade that came out in 2018. And he also starred in a movie called Promising Young Woman that came out in 2020, and another one called the Big Sick (2017) He also directed a couple of comedy specials for other comedians and as well.
Guys, you're going down the rabbit whole in a completely wrong way. Watch the most popular songs from his special "What", then the most popular songs from his special "Make Happy".. and THEN anything from Inside. Otherwise you are completely missing what Bo is an amazing entertainer.
lol teach us yo give us recommendations cause so far everything from this dude keeps getting better!
@@NewFuturerecords You're currently on his latest Netflix special. Some of his earlier things (that come to mind) that I could recommend (in no particular order except order of release: (1st special "Words Words Words") Words, Words, Words - Ironic - Oh Bo - Art is Dead - Rant; (2nd special "what.") From God's Perspective - Sad - Left Brain, Right Brain - Repeat Stuff - Hell of a Ride - We Think We Know You; (3rd special "Make Happy") Country Song - Lower Your Expectations - Kill Yourself, [and this is where Kanye Rant would go, which you've done by now] -- (First CD (pre-specials)) I'm Bo Yo, My Whole Family .... (Current special "Inside") All the songs.
Oh shut up and let them discover on their own. I fucking hate you elitist clowns that will only allow someone to enjoy something the way YOU want them to. Gatekeeping stooge.
His videography skills are insane. Dude can sing, play instruments, and do the technical stuff, bro is a one-man special for real. The shadow after he picked the camera up? You crazy if you don't respect his skills.
If they’re worried about this mic, they should watch Repeat Stuff 🤣🤣
Was just thinking that. The live version though
I just commented the same thing before scrolling, lol
If you don't want to use his mic now, you should see his on-stage performance of "Repeat Stuff." After seeing that, you'll want to make sure that any mic you're about to use has never been anywhere near him. =P
There are points in his shows where he is being dead serious and talking about his mental issues and the audience laughs. That's why he added it, because they're laughing at inappropriate times. Also, he wrote and directed a movie called Eighth Grade that did really good. 99% on rotten tomatoes between 300+ critics and like 83% with the audience reviews. Go watch it .. He isn't just a comedian, dude is talented. He also was nominated for 6 Emmys and won 3 for Inside.
Yeah thats nuts and ima really have to watch that movie
He won a Grammy for this song, and he won 6 emmys for this special. He showed up to get none of them.
Lmao not surprising
Yea... thats... what most of his special is about. Anxiety and Mental illness
*Nominated for 6.
Won 3…. Which is the most by ANY INDIVIDUAL in a single year
You think he's kissing the mic in this one, watch his live version of Repeat Stuff
just did and i wish i remembered your name cause i shouted u out lmao
first time I watched this special this song hit me like a freight train, especially "you say the oceans rising / like I give a shit / you say the whole worlds ending / honey, it already did / you're not gonna slow it, heaven knows you tried / got it? good, now get inside" like FUCK
like,, climate change? forest fires? melting ice caps? rising sea levels? this shit has taken up permanent residence in my brain & it upsets me so much that there's almost nothing I can do to stop it. it's all rich CEOs in their ivory towers destroying the planet for what? money?? status?? they could revert this shit SO easily & yet they refuse to. idk where I was going with this but yeah this song had me in tears the entire time
right he was already going through it he basically saying welcome to my world
Personal responsibility is a hell of a thing.
He had two Netflix specials under his belt before he was 24. Directed Chris rocks standup special and wrote and directed an award winning movie “8 grade” during that five year hiatus. 🐐
dude directed a full-on award winning movie and acted in another one in the meantime.
Bo Burnham is one of the first pioneers of UA-cam. His first video came out a few months after Google bought UA-cam in 2006, he was pretty much the first person to go viral on the platform. That's how I was first introduced to him.
During that five years he directed two comedy specials (one was for Chris Rock), wrote and directed the acclaimed film "8th Grade," and starred in several movies in small roles like The Big Sick, and Promising Young Woman. So he wasn't idle he just saw it as a break from what he did before which was live comedy either through UA-cam when he was 16 or his various specials: Comedy Central Presents Bo Burnham, Words, Words, Words, What, and finally Make Happy. The song you just watched "All Eyes On Me) is from his Netflix special "Inside" and was made over a year during pandemic lockdown in his guest house behind his main house with only Bo and his camera, lighting, and music equipment.
He wrote a brilliant movie in that five year gap that is from the perspective of an 8th grade girl. His talent is staggering.
I'm subscribing and I'm here for every Bo reaction. I've been watching Bo since 2009 and love watching people discover him. You should also watch the entire Inside special on your own after you react to the videos. Adds so much more context.
Kanye Rant, Country Song, straight white male… he’s a genius and has been since he was a kid. Fun to watch new reactions:)
i cant lie its really been fun doing them and just learning about talent we have been missing! thanks for the suggestions just uploaded kanye rant. country song sounds interesting!
Bo was the original UA-cam success. He played silly songs in his bedroom at like 16-17. Comedy central signed him for three sets. After doing more conventional specials, he signed with Netflix who basically let him do whatever artistic performance he wanted
Also, he wasn't doing nothing for 5 years. He wrote and directed a movie
As a vocalist and someone in a worship band, that's what you're supposed to do with a mic. The less space, the less feedback and less chance for harsh consonant sounds.
A very rarely reacted to song, try "A World on Fire," you won't be disappointed.
Bo Burnham directed a movie during the hiatus. Check it out on imdb "Eight grade" He wasn't NOT working for 5 years :)
This hits so much harder after watching the rest of "Inside", this bit is at the end. Great reaction though I dig your vibe.
Bo Burnham is independent aka he writes, preforms, produces, and edits acts that answers how he can make so much money and take 5 years off he makes couple million a special and has several out mostly when he was just graduating high school but the thing about this artistic genius is that the money doesn’t matter to him he just doesn’t have to look at his bank account when he goes grocery shopping that’s all that means to him because he is a “true artist “
man i cant watch this and laugh... this song is so fucking sad...bo is a genius. hE tells a real and sad story while putting a laugh track on it, and wwhen real people watch this they laugh, like whe predicted they would... i mean if you listen to what he is saying: his life ended 5 years ago and then in 2020 he was ready to start things again and the world ended, fuck
hope y’all keep rockin with bo. he’s incredible
I'm surprised y'all caught the "funny story" ended up trashed cuz of coronavirus, and how you picked up on the laugh track even though he was saying something sad and true. Believe it or not most reactors miss both of those, or at least the severity of them.
I watched this special when it came out...almost a year later and this song still gives me the chills. Always makes me feel some type of way no matter how many times I listen to it
You all should watch his Netflix special Inside. It provides context to a lot of this song. The dude is brilliant.
He wrote and directed and acted. Just didn’t perform live comedy which was what he’s done since 18.
GUYS I’m so glad you’re here and doing this. The total silence as you were listening to the story. No joke, this special was spiritual for me.
Bo did work on his 5-year hiatus. It's just that he didn't do comedy anymore.
The movie "Eight Grade" in 2018 is his first work as a director. And he has done some other stuff as well.
Btw, have just started binging your BoBurnham video, and am working my way down the timeline. It has been great fun, so looking forward to catching up:)
Watching this at the end of the pandemic was trippy cause you can't go anywhere either.
Please do can't handle this/Kanye rant next. You'll love it.
10:05 his crib by the way…. Is the original Nightmare on Elm Street house. No BS. He and his GF owned it and he filled “Inside” in the guest room.
broooooo are you serious??? lol thats nuts!
you guys are some of the first i've seen react to bo that really catch so much of what he is saying. the hand over the light affect, the pandemic happening right as he was going to start performing again, the laugh track. in the other videos too. nice commentary!
It blows my mind when ppl dont put together the pandemic thing when he literally says 2020 lol. Glad they caught that
He said he quite performing “live comedy “. Didn’t say he wasn’t up to anything 🤷🏻♂️
Yea Bo just stopped from performing live but he did other things like directing and acting in some stuff during the 5 year break.
This Grammy award winning song deserves better than 8... Common fellas…
An interesting fact: his girlfriend's guesthouse, in which he shot all of the special INSIDE, was also where the original Nightmare on Elm St was shot, too! And on Halloween 2021, the place went on sale for 3.25 million! I have no clue, tho, if it sold yet, or for how much. But he filmed his special where a straight up horror classic was filmed 🤩🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Watsky is a friend of Bo who kind of hits me as the opposite but the same. Deep music, but music first, and a little funny second. Bo shows up in Watskys music video Whoa Whoa Whoa which I would recommend reacting to. The lyrics are so quick and dense and he is known for an ancient youtube video White Kid Raps Fast.
Lowkey. Your edits to skirt round copyright are fire. Makes the song new and fresh
During that 5 year drought he made a movie called 8th Grade. He wasn't doing nothing...
its on netflix? i wanna check it out
@@NewFuturerecords Looks like it's on a paid service that involves Showtime. I think you can also get it on Amazon Prime but you gotta rent it for a dollar or 2.
@@NewFuturerecords if yall got a VPN, it's on brazilian netflix at least
Do yourself a favour and watch all of his specials in order asap
Bo is something different
Watch “I’m Bo Yo” from his bedroom as a teenager to see the talent from over a decade ago. Love the reactions.
PS: watch Harry Mack’s Rap Coltrane, Soulilloquies and Drum Break Freestyle 🤗
That building he is in is a guest house. He and his long term girlfriend live in the main house, which is the home from Nightmare on Elm Street. His girlfriend Is a director!
He directed a movie and does a lot of projects during that 5 years
Yep he was still working (see: Eighth Grade), just not performing live.
How do y’all not have a million subscribers?! So good. I’m a huge Bo Burnham fan and I’m glad the algorithm brought me to your stuff!
If you want to see Bo do really obscene things to a microphone, check out “Repeat Stuff” from his Netflix special “What.” 😁
Yall need to do the whole special. Just cut it up into sections. Theres so much in there that would appeal to both of you
This song makes me ball my fucking eyes out and I legit get angry when I see reactions to it as the second Bo song they've done, I had to wait until you did more Bo reactions and know you appreciate him before I came back to this one. Watching people laugh during this song is fucking heartbreaking.
He got a Grammy for this!!!
Try "we think we know you" and "words words words" they show some of his best tallent
Heyyyy, if you continue reacting to Bo please make sure to rewind for like five seconds after you pause, so you won't miss anything. His timing is usually the key to a lot of his stuff, so pausing in mid-sentence might just throw you off or ruin some of the jokes. Thanks!
Bro won a Grammy for this song
8/10? I guess that's fair if you haven't seen the special. Watching this song in the context of the special, it's goosebumps inducing.
I still kinda got goosebumps when he jumped in the second verse no lie.
they’re just too stupid to understand anything
You guys need to react to 'Words words words' one of his most creative songs/videos
Just be the first UA-cam reaction that starts watching Bo from the beginning so you can understand what happens now.
so what order does it go? cause right now every video keeps getting better and i think we are going backwards hahaha
I'm loving your reactions to Bo! You guys are great! I subscribed for the journey! 💕
Another great Bo Burnham song from this same show is How The World Works, don't want to spoil too much but damn it takes a turn...
just did it check it out!
@@NewFuturerecords To be perfectly honest, I'm not the type to be typically into the hip hop scene, but I'm really enjoying your content. You've shown more than the typical level of attention to the detail present in this material and I'm really enjoying it. Keep it up!
Keep going!!!!! You guys are awesome!!!
Please! How the World Works by Bo Burnham. Just remember not to let flies get into your mouth when your jaw drops.
hahahah right!!
I hope you guys do more Bo reactions. I love your reactions to these first 3 songs.
FANTASTIC reaction guys, very good, keep up the Bo content!!!
Watching this again I just realized you said he’s like a white Soulja Boy, in regards to him coming up because of UA-cam. That’s so funny…. Because Bo is not a fan of Soulja Boy, which is evident in a couple of his bits ahaha
After you unpause at 3:00 an echo appears. Really distracting, knowing it's not supposed to be there.
Bo is an amazing artist, and this is an amazing song, but I think it would have had an even deeper impact had you watched Can't Handle This (Kayne Rant). It acts as a sort of prologue to Inside. Which you should absolutely watch all of. The songs are all good. It is really pretty funny, even if darkly so. And I believe it captures the general vibe of lockdowns and forced isolation that so many of us have been experiencing.
i love dark edgy stuff that makes u think and so far his way of expressing himself is dope!
As far as the videography goes, Dude has experience with directing and filmmaking. In 2018 he came out with a movie that he wrote and directed called Eighth Grade and he even beat out a bunch of Oscar nominated directors for some directing award (I forget what it was called). I swear, Inside is like the culmination of everything else he's done all in one project. Now you guys have to watch his Kanye Rant from his last special. It's when he was having the panic attacks he talked about and it relates thematically to this song.
kanye rant coming up alot so we gonna do that one next see what you guys are talking about! thanks!
He picked us up!!! 😁
Please watch Kanye rant, words words words, and eff
The first Bo video I saw was his, "I'm Bo Yo" Hard to believe that was 15 years ago.
I dont know if anyone else has made this comment. (I apologize if they have) bo pitched his voice down for this. You can tell because when he just talks its lower pitched than his speaking voice. If you pitch this song up you can get his actual voice
i noticed that but i didnt even think to pitch it up and listen ima try it
Man his early live stuff is even better! His last special (that this vid was taken from) was the less favorite special of mine that he did. Still LOVED it but his early stuff was better before he went through his mental stuff. Melancholy comedian,. all songs are mostly satire,.. but usually with a deep message. AND BO,.. if you are reading this,. I get it bro,. I can't even leave the house anymore. The internet is my entire world. Mental health issues are hell and you are my hero. So good to see you back.
Hey, this song is deep, sad and so powerful when heard in the context of the full special and knowing some of his history. However without that I'm still glad that you got what you did.
Left brain, right brain is one of my favorites.
I love the oopsy excuse me part of the song and that is basically it
Lmaooo🔥🔥🔥
If you are worried about him kissing the mic, you should check out "Repeat stuff". However, you also ought to check out Country Song, amongst all the other good suggestions in the comments.
SURE WILL THANKS!
He also wrote the movie eighth grade. And three Netflix specials.
You gotta check out How The Word Works by Bo! It's so good!
Please keep going with Bo
The cloud ceiling thing isn't too hard, just get a bunch of stuffing, lay it all out and glue it to a wire frame. Put LEDs in, and spray everything with anti spider shit because that stuff gets nasty if you don't.
Looking a bit like JC hovering above him .. lol
Bo does rap also try eff or words words words, oh bo long list
You guys should react to Eff & Hell of a Ride, both with lyrics pulled up
I am on a one year unpaid hiatus right now. Saved up for it, best mental health choice.
I need one
Great reaction and commentary, both with this and your Kanye Rant vid.
Jump onto “That funny feeling” next!
I pray at the alter of Bo
Look at some older stuff too.
Words words words. Bo fo sho. I'm bo yo.
4:31 that was beautiful bruh
Talented enough to do or write anything. I love that he chose comedy to heal the world
facts
I have a feeling Bo understands what's coming like only a very few know... This human/living world is ending in a very short period of time. His guess is 7 years... sounds about right. Research methane biofeedback loops and tipping points.
Please do "Rehab for Fictional Characters" Bo was like 15 or 16 Please!!!!
Moooooooore Bo!
