An important note: while the Kanye Rant as a bit was part of his last performance, the one that was recorded for Make Happy was *not* his last performance, as he had several tour dates after that.
I think it's vital to point this out, because it always makes me uncomfortable when people incorrectly claim that Make Happy was his last performance before the break, or that Make Happy shows him in the midst of a panic attack, because these claims come from a place of romanticizing mental illness, something that Bo himself says he hates. The panic attacks were cut from the final edit of Make Happy, and he played several shows after the shows that were recorded for MH.

I think he was going for a concert vibe with this one. The music and visuals feel like that, so I think the audience sounds were part of that aesthetic. The subject matter of the piece is about how he would be in front of a live audience at the moment if it were up to him. The thing that impresses me most about this, is the camera grab spin move. It's like a fourth wall break pushed further than I've ever seen one pushed. When he swings the camera and it faces the wall his shadow is cast from the light behind him, and we can see he is behind the camera, looking at the same shadow on the wall we are. He's got an insane amount of talent and creativity

I know a lot of people have already recommended his Kanye Rant/Can't Handle This but I absolutely agree. It goes hand in hand with this song since that was when he quit comedy. But also, he has a line in that song that helps to explain the added laughter: "You can tell them anything, if you just make it funny, make it rhyme". Literally, you can pour your heart out, cry for help, etc, but as long as you make it into a bit or a song people will laugh without hearing you
Also, I highly recommend watching "Are You Happy" immediately following Can't Handle This. Those two back-to-back are how he finishes his special Make Happy and it is very simple but adds so much to what you feel after Can't Handle This

Bo Burnham beat all other comedians to the punch with his Netflix special, Inside, which debuted in May of 2021 (when the covid vaccine was still rolling out). Other comedians had not yet even had a chance to play to full comedy crowds, much less film a special with their two-cents about the quarantine.
Most of the people who watched Inside when it premiered had probably not spent much time outside of their 14 month-long quarantine bubbles. Personally, I found the resonance of this special to be quite astounding. It's worth it to watch the whole performance in one sitting while trying to remember where/how you were in May of 2021.

Especially after finding out that he was suffering from panic attacks during shows, that bridge hits me like a fucking freight train. 🎵Are you feeling nervous? Are you having fun?/ It's almost over. It's just begun/ Don't overthink this, look in my eye/ Don't be scared, don't be shy, come on in, the water's fine🎵 As someone who is diagnosed with Avoidant Personality Disorder, it's a strange sensation to feel extreme anxiety in even the most basic human interactions, to the point where I just want to disappear completely. The irony is, the only place where I felt at home was on the stage, which is normally something avoidant types can't stand. It was the only place where I felt above anyone's judgment. Then I'd step off the stage after the show, and become a nervous wreck. I've made some improvements over the years, but I'm far from perfect, and it's hard to stay logically sound when your emotions are going haywire

Your questions about the laugh track that he played is very much illustrated by his performance of "Can't Handle This" (Kanye Rant). He shares a very deep and vulnerable moment with the crowd and then goes back to the "silly" part of the song and much of the crowd cheers and acts like he didn't just spill his heart for them on that stage. I can't imagine how that had to feel for him, especially being on tour with that being his ending performance EVERY night. It had to be so frustrating for him.

An obvious, albeit maybe trite literary recommendation would be Roland Barthes' "Death of the author", given your thought about the authors intended meaning and the reader's diverging reception. A cool (and short) follow up read then is Jorge Louis Borges' "Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote”, which juxtaposes Barthes' argued irrelevance of the auther for an interpretation of their work with the idea that the context of a works production heavily influences how it could be read.

3:30 he added the laugh track because he just got done talking about how he had just spent the prior 5 years reclused, and hiding from the world, only to then decide to start performing again right before the world went into a 2 year lock down. It's just ironic. Also side note, If you're aiming to react to more songs from Inside, I'd really recommend sitting down and watching the whole thing, then chopping it up into videos. Hell watch Kanye Rant like people said, people cheer and scream after it. I'd be hesitant to even clap b/c I'd feel like shit. I also wonder if "All eyes on me" is referring to the audience paying to see him on stage, but then "pray for me" because we know that he struggles with anxiety while performing. Idk that may be off.

The laugh track he put in feels like a throwback to his Kanye Rant "you can tell them anything if you just makr it funny, makr it rhyme".
Because hes a comedian and has a dry delivery people are expecting funny, and they laugh. So when he said "the funniest thing happened" its funny cos its relatable or awkward, but its inappropriate cos hes baring his soul.
A lot of his later work references the audience and how they don't know him, theres pressure to please others but he needs to be real too, and shedding his "Act" for autheticity. Interesting you picked up on it too, a lot of people didnt.

There aren't many real artists left, at least in my opinion. There's many people who follow formats and know that if I do A, I get B. But real art? Specially funny art. A few of the old guys are left still, but man Bo is the hope for the future. A seed. A light in the dark.

    Possible Book Recommendation:
‘Self-Help For Your Nerves’ by Dr. Claire Weekes.
An excellent, pragmatic approach to deal with generalised anxiety disorders, PTSD & panic attacks.
To any subscriber going through it, there is a way to minimise its impact on your life. Don’t give up. ❤️

Laugh track of our minds the running commentary and the scream to be herd by everyone and no one the call to engage anyone the challenge to accept your ownself by yourself. I will sing to my own pain and I will dance at my funeral, and I hope you will be there

Unlike his other clips that are easier to react to individually; I believe that Bo’s clips from “Inside” are better suited to watching in it’s entirety. As there is a clear thru line in this comedy special that you’ll miss if you react to just clips out of order. I personally believe you’ll get more out of it if you watch all at once.
And then maybe you could post a general recap and thoughts video. I know that’s not your usual style and I am unclear on your daily schedule - if that’s even a possibility - or if you even have an interest in that method. Just my two cents!
Not a demand, and of course I’ll still watch any Bo Burnham reactions; whether it’s from this special or others. Just wanted to add my perspective!!
The entire special is a banger, but the following songs live rent free in my head:
“How The World Works”, “White Womans Instagram”, “Unpaid Intern”, “Goodbye”, and “Shit”, plus “The Chicken” from his Inside Outtakes he released a year after this.
This was one of my favorite things out of 2021. I always walk away with things to think about from Bo, but inside was a whole new level for me. I think I watched it four or five times in a weekend. Top tier. Deserves all the awards it got!

If you want to react to another Vsauce video - I highly recommend "Illusions of Time". For me it's one of his best videos to date.

The laugh was because, as soon as he was ready to come out, in Jan 2020, the world was about to go into isolation because of COVID. It is a "go figure" moment of awkward timing.

I’m curious as to why she no longer does the “click👉🏿” at the end of the video anymore.🥺

I just had a crazy Idea. I think it would be hilarious if you did a review of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Pretending it's an actual documentary =P

Honestly you could film yourself reacting to the entire feature-length special and just edit the footage into separate videos for each song and you’d have your next couple weeks of uploads ready to go haha

I don't know why I believe No Protocol lives in California. She is wearing a sweater. It looks nice...but isn't California suppose to be incredibly warm?

You should react to Kanye Rant, it's surprisingly very similer to All Eyes On Me
