I also love this song! I think you said it best, it doesn't have any mind-blowing technical feats, but it's just pure vibes. Also, I'm not 100% confident, but I think that percussion instrument is an angklung, an Indonesian instrument which is actually promoted by UNESCO for its cultural significance!
Don’t get me wrong, Larnell is a MONSTERRR drummer. But stylistically, and aesthetically, I much prefer the approach of Snarky’s original drummer in Sput; along with his own band Ghost Note (the band in the Zildjian live series). Sput just has that extra bizarre ‘stank’ that a lot of Texas drummers have (Chris Dave). Y’all gotta check out some Ghost Note if you get a chance. Sput was a co-writer with League for Snarky, so you’ll hear a lot of similarities. But it’ll be on the grittier, nasty funk side if you dig that.
