    The neurologist talking about the 'divorce' between neurology and psychology as they relate is quite saddening. I wish every person could go to a specialist that actually takes the time to connect all the dots for them about their brain in regards to their personal history. People take the meds prescribed to them and then feel like a failure when they don't work but they very well have an incorrect diagnosis

    • @BuzzLightyear9999
      @BuzzLightyear9999 4 роки тому +3

      That was a very basic and un-nuanced description of the actual situation (and he said ‘Psychiatry’ not ‘Psychology’ - important difference...). Psychiatrists are doctors and have the same fundamentals in neurology as any medical doctor (and slightly more due to their specialty...) Psychiatrists [good ones] absolutely take in to account neuro-physiology and physical condition of the brain (including traumatic brain injury) and in cases where required, absolutely refer people to a neurologist (i.e. in the case where someone says “I struggle to ‘think’ straight” or “I feel like I’m in a ‘brain-fog’ at times”...
      This Neurologist wasn’t ‘dissing’ Psychiatrists, simply acknowledging they have different specialties.

    • @TheCollectorsSin
      @TheCollectorsSin 4 роки тому +2

      @@BuzzLightyear9999 respectfully, @anonymous above was absolutely correct in their statement. As a person who has dealt with neurologists since she was 7 and is now in her 30s, and has dealt with psychiatrists for the past 15 years, they could not be more divorced. Neurology in itself is barely a specialty as there are so many subspecialties underneath of it. This doctor is essentially a unicorn and I doubt that there are more than a handful of doctors who are trying to truly look at a patient as an entire person despite their specialty. Yes that divorce has become the norm but it absolutely shouldn't be because as he said you wouldn't give me high dose heart medication for chest pain without testing because it could very well be a pulled muscle.
      I can tell you anecdotally, I have never once had a neurologist ask about my mental health and I most certainly have never been asked about any type of brain trauma or brain illness by a psychiatrist.

    #1. Thank you SOOO much for sharing this!
    #2. This actually showed me I need to get to a doctor like this. I fell out of the back of a truck when I was around 7-8 and it paralyzed the right side of my body for about 20-30 minutes because I hit MY HEAD!
    And I never got any scans done to see if that done anything. (It was the 90’s, I lived on a farm.)
    A year later I wrecked my bike and hit my head and actually had to have my head stapled shut. So that could have very well done something as well.
    3. I so much love you and Stephen for being so transparent. So many of us are dealing with the same problems and you 2 single handedly are making it less “horrible” to talk about and taking that fear away.
    4. Thank you, Thank You, Thank you! From the bottom of my heart! ♥️

Alternatives need to be more mainstream as well, I'm currently taking _another_ antidepressant that not only isn't helping, but the cons far outweigh any pros - and I know when I tell my doctor that I'm done with this medication he's simply going to recommend another. It's exhausting.

      Just as the good doctor said, for one to treat the mind (Psychologist) one should also treat the brain (Neurologist) It cannot hurt to check on the health of your brain with a scan as it is the Engine for all of your body's function - emotional, mental and physical. It could give you an actual visible reason to some or all issues you are seeking help for. It could answer questions you've been asking for a long time. Getting answers to your "why?" is absolutely worth it. Wishing and hoping for the best for you and sending you positive vibes.

    4 mins in and I'm balling like a baby. Thank you both for bringing awareness to this. Just watched it and it motivated me to make an appointment to check my hormone levels and go to the endocrinologist. Anything is a start. I'm also hoping to get my brain scanned eventually. Thank you 10000 times for this.

    This video makes me so sad about my life, but it is so informative. My children are shaken baby survivors and thank the Lord they were able to recover with no external physical damage. I know that I am definitely now gonna take them in to get their brains scanned bc they show a lot of symptoms of add. I don’t want them to have a lot of the meds that used to be used bc I saw it damage my cousins life (he had adhd). But if there’s something I can do therapy wise to know how to help my children be very functional in life and prevent any negative effects in their life. I like that this doctor isn’t focusing on prescription drugs to treat. He is using therapy and supplements. I hope I can find someone like this for my family. Thank you so much Stephen and Laura for sharing your journey. You have no idea how many questions you’ve answered for me, Stephen with my children and the direction I should go for preventative care for them.

    I need to see this guy‼️ I have so many health problems. One very important is in my Brain! Missing some very important neurons. (auto immune disease) Which also gives me depression and a long list of other things. If I can't see him when I visit LA maybe he can refer me to someone in my area.😬 Thank you for this amazing and crucial information. ☺️❤️

I have had a brain tumor removed and still have so many issues with depression, anxiety and just generally not feeling well. Thank you so much for sharing your stories because it gives me hope that someday I can be better.

    I have been on Prozac since my husband was dying of kidney failure and it was upped after he passed. I have since dropped down to a low dose but can't wing myself off. I am ordering happy Saffron and light therapy. I really don't want to be on it anymore. Thank you for doing this video to let me see there are alternatives.

    I am sitting here on the edge of my seat because I have literally never associated brain trauma with ADD or depression. When I was a little kid I ran into some cinder blocks face 1st and hit myself just under the eyes and I had black eyes for a few weeks. I think I was probably 3 years old at the time. So I was never dropped on my head that I know of but I did definitely plow face 1st in the some cinder blocks. I have ADD and I suffer with depression and I'm kind of wondering now if it might be related to this injury that I suffered when I was a young child????Mind blown. What kind of doctor did you go to to get a brain scan?

      Im in the same boat I was 2 almost 3 and I climbed a bookshelf which then fell onto my head. I still have a scar from the stitches and deal with the same exact issue. Also always secure your bookshelves to walls if you have kiddos. And dressers. Or anything else that they can climb on really. Loll

      We had really dangerous stairs growing up. I fell on my head several times as a small kid. I know my mom dropped me as a baby down the stairs but I don't have any information if my head was protected or not. It would explain a lot though.

    I also had 2 brain injuries when I was a child - age 3 or 4 - I have a scar on my head for it. Plus duing my alcoholism Addiction, ADD (ADHD as a child), depression always there and anxiety but I've always held down a job and a life but have always struggled in secret. Because of this video I went to the GP and asked for a brain scan. GPs are wonderful but they are Jack of all trades master of none so tried to not do it. I used what I learned from this video to explain to my GP why I need this scan and they changed their mind. I told them the treatment and as I have a good job im not looking for the NHS to fund it, ive sourced it and will pay for it myself. I already take 2 flaxeed oil tablets a day which is omega 3, 6, 9. They have referred me! I have to wait for an appointment in the post. Thank you so much guys. If I have the same thing I don't know how to contact you but I will find a way to thank you for saving my life xxx

    Wow. I’ve suffered from panic attacks, anxiety, and depression, off and on, for at last 40 years+. I’ve made some bad choices over the course of those years, impulsive as Hell, obsessive thoughts, negativity, and NO filter with my mouth. I don’t say things to hurt people, but I say things that I should probably keep to myself. My mother passed away when I was 26 which also rocked my world. About 5-6 years before this started, I had lost control of my car on a wet road and ran head on into a telephone pole. We didn’t wear seat belts in the mid 70s, and I broke the steering wheel and hit the windshield, rearranging my face a bit. I wonder if that, coupled with the loss of my mother could have any bearing on the problems I’ve had. It really makes me want to go see somebody about all this. What kind of doctor is this?
