- Leffen took to the microphone at a recent major to bring up the topic of air time stalling. While this obviously was in direct contention with me, he seems to forget a lot about Super Smash Bros. Melee. So let's talk about it.

Even Leffen watchers and fans meme on it it is that funny/bad of a take.

Add a laser limit and a dash back limit and see how he does. The box has been getting camped so unbelievably hard by foxes for years and when he stops flying into them they whine about him camping. It’s the most confusing shit to me
Because Fox wins the match up when he camps, but when puff camps back, its actually hard to win even though its still Fox favor.
The issue is Foxes legit just want free wins. They dont want to work for it. Beating a camping puff is hard so they complain that they actually have to put in the effort to win. So they only want to nerf puff but NOT nerf fox so that they can get free wins again.
Thankfully is like 99% just Leffen who acts like this and most people dont take it seriously in the slightest. But there is that 1% of Leffen followers who actually buy into his nonsense and agree with him.

There's a youtuber that did an analysis of that match to see if Hbox was even spending an abnormally large amount of time in the air during that match. It was dramatically under the normal air times of the average Samus player just recovering normally.

I think in that same video he found that it isn't that rare for Samus on Dreamland to spend more time in the air just from playing the game normally compared to the time Hbox camped Chudat in Grand Finals of Dreamhack Austin 2017 (which is considered one of his most campy sets).
Samus and Peach are obviously in a disadvantageous state while recovering, it's not the same as Puff being non interactive by back airing above the side of the stage.

To be fair that is how you beat a camping puff. You camp her back in a way to force an approach. So any time someone says "the fox is laser camping!" 99% of the time the puff was camping first and forced this stalemate scenario. You dont see leffen in any other camping scenarios, but hbox is in all of them. Not blaming him, its the most op thing about his character so ofc hes gonna abuse it.

@@kkokay4 If Leffen is allowed to do it, Hbox is allowed to do it. Did you know Leffen put Jigglypuff at #1 character? He's good at the game but he's a clown when he gets emotional. Also, basically nobody else plays Puff, especially anywhere close to Hbox's level.

The reason leffen isnt approaching is because he'll get fucked up if he does because thats the match up. So he laser camps instead to force puff to approach.
Fox's approach options are way better than puff's and Fox is way faster. He also has the projectile that forces others to approach him so puff eventually has to approach.
Fox is literally the one controlling the entire pace of the match. if you dont want to camp, you dont have to as fox. Its just way harder to win when you dont camp. But you do see top foxes not camp and win, for example IBDW doesnt camp HBox nearly as much as Leffen does. He approaches way more often. he does camp SOMETIMES but he is overall much more aggressive.
Puff has nothing to force Fox to approach. if Fox wants to laser camp, Puff cant do anything about it except approach. The only thing that forces fox to approach puff is when Puff has a lead, which only happens when the fox ALREADY messed up and lost that lead.
So a campy match up where fox is laser camping is much more the fox's fault than Puff's Fault. And yea, your argument of "well, fox loses if he approaches" doesnt even work, because the same logic applies to puff. Puff also loses when she approaches fox. Thats WHY fox wins the match up to begin with. She has to camp when she has a lead to force fox to approach her if she wants a shot at beating Fox. Its the same reason Foxes laser camping are doing it because its better than approaching in that match up.
Leffen was behind Hbox by 2 stocks in the game it was on him too approach and engage and draw first blood but he was forcing the stalemate not hbox.

Leffen is just the personification of “skill issue”
Leffen is more the personification of a scrub mentality because let's be real here, Leffen is incredibly skilled. He doesn't just compete in Melee. He also plays other fighting games at an elite level. Hell, the guy has an EVO title. So, he doesn't have a skill issue. It's really more a mentality issue and he has the mentality of a scrub.

Big problem with the airtime limit is also that you can play puff and stay in the air the entire game without camping. Puff likes to jump so an air time limit just seems weird
It's not weird. It's stupid/logically inconsistent. Puff is good at jumping and floating. Fox has speed and a laser. If you're going to handicap Puff's jumping then you handicap Fox's speed and laser. The dude is either wanting clone character battles only without realizing it or he's really just straight up wanting his opposition to be handicapped to make it easier for him.
Leffen synthesizes perfectly what most of the Foxes online do, which is laser-camp the hell out of you and if they start losing they just ragequit or spam crap on the chat

fast characters who’s entire design philosophy is about their speed tend to usually be one of their game’s simplest yet hardest characters to effectively pilot, this combo of being simple yet hard to play creates this mindset in the rushdowm/speed character mains’s head that THEIR character is the “pure” and “skill-based” one and all the other characters are “gimmicks” because they have special attributes that differentiates them from what “the core of the game” is
Spy,engineer,pyro aren’t legitimate parts of the tf2 like scout, they’re “gimmicks” because their unique attributes deviate from moving and shooting in a “movement-based game”

Leffen is a traditional Fighting Game player playing Melee. He wishes there was a canned mechanic to minimize camping, but Melee's flexible enough to allow many types of camping

Tekken is a game that you learn on your own time with community resources. Just like Melee was for decades. The fact that Leffen said "this is a cheese game" instead of saying "I don't fully understand the game yet" is why he was made fun of. Tekken is a series of knowledge checks. He just hates grappling with the fact that he might not be good.

The craziest thing is people watched Hax's video and everyone called Hax "Unhinged", despite providing screenshots and evidence of Leffen's toxic behavior. Leffen's a snake I don't see why anyone takes him seriously (outside of his competitive skill at games, but being good at games does not make you a good person.). He doesn't understand why we can use the Smash Box? It's healthier for the hands, and provides like a 1 frame advantage in 1 scenario. Honestly when you came on and said everything you said at the event it showed a huge level of growth and maturity in my eyes. The first is the sense of self awareness “I don’t go to the mic and complain, I think he’s better I’m worse. I need to get better” it’s not the game, it’s me, if I wanna play this character there will be bad matchups and unless I switch characters I’m going to have to burden the load of getting better in the matchups that I suck at. “We’re both really good at the game, it was just a matter of getting outplayed “ I’ve seen you win and lose to foxes, and my immediate thought was how do they have it figured out and he doesn’t. Your comments were respectful and fair, and didn’t undermine anyone, even though the opportunity was there to argue/bitch/complain/poke fun of the interview, it was the better route by you, and shout out to all the people pushing back on what he was saying, because it did sound a little complainy. Juan you need to be the bad guy. Its a good role to play. Be campy and laugh at people for not knowing how to deal with defensiveness. That is a vital aspect of the melee storyline.

Idk If thats the route he wants to go. He already gets a ton of extremely vile hate as it is. Not like playful hate, but actual real legitimate hate. And thats how it is NOW, it used to be a LOT worse, especially when he was #1 for 3 years.

The chair opposite to Leffen is empty, his opponent was banned minutes ago for a ledge dash that was ruled "egregiously high altitude". In his head, Leffen has finally managed to hit #1.

I had to like the video cause the fact that you handled that moment at the tournament so well and still being humble enough to say "There are times where I get outplayed, I need to do better", while still giving Leffen props for being a good player, really gives a nice insight to a casual like me who doesn't do tournaments or anything cause of people like Leffen. Now I don't know how the guy acts on the regular, but just hearing him basically say "Hungrybox is getting too good, we need to nerf his ability to play." is not exactly a good sportsmanship attitude (esp from what I assume shortly after losing).
Either way, this video was pretty entertaining to watch and a really cool insight to you as both a player and a person HBox
