I saw this on the gaming historian and had to find the original. I’m blown away. I could never compose more than a few seconds of “music” in Mario paint. I will be spending the next few hours watching more videos haha
The Gaming Historian reminded me of watching this more than a decade ago. Had to come back, and finally give it a thumbs up, since I didn't use a UA-cam account back in those days :) Still sounds really awesome
I use the save state feature on my emulator to preserve all of my arrangements. I just loaded up the original take and merely changed that last note to introduce the next melody line. Hope this answers your question.
One of the very first channels on YT I distinctly remember following, way back when UA-cam was a much smaller place! When I saw your name onscreen in Gaming Historian's documentary... I was like "Tom? Music teacher? Mario Paint composer? It's gotta be who I think it is!"... and sure enough it was! I'm so happy Norm recognized your talents and contributions. I'm 34 now but hearing the name TomBobBlender brought back lots of great memories when I was a much younger man, around 20 or so. Binging your channel again - like I did all those years ago!!! Thanks for everything, Tom :)
Oh gosh! This was a great post to read! UA-cam sure has changed, hasn't it? Thanks for sharing such cool memories with me! I sure do miss the simpler times.
Well, as played on the SNES, you CAN save your Music, Animations and Art Work but only one 'slot' was available. And as far back as I can remember, it NEVER worked, or would sit there loading forever. I remember having to record all of music work (music and animations) to VHS tapes. The computer, however, can save anything and everything.
I discovered this from Gaming Historian's video on the Story of Mario Paint. You did amazing work! I love the original Mega Man series, and the track form the first 2 Dr. Wily stages in 2 is amongst my favorite tracks. I would love to hear more tracks done by you from the Mega Man franchise, if possible. Again, amazing work!
I know some people who criticized Mario Paint for the kind of 'game' it was. Then I showed them this video and they were like...WTF?!?!? Needless to say they think Mario Paint is awesome. Cheers to you, mate. This must've taken a lot of work, and considering the limitations of the program you still made this AWESOME, AWESOME piece. You sir, are a Mario Paint MASTER!
Dude do you know how much this means to me! This is awesome! This game me and a friend of mine used to play as kids and we still play it from time to time! Thanks dude!
This is just brilliantly done, and on the ORIGINAL nonetheless, and you use all the tones. Just stunning. Most people probably don't even realize how difficult it is to do something like this.
I'm impressed ith this--you really managed to capture the music note for note with this program. I can only imagine how long that must have taken you! Kudos!
This is the video that got me interested in downloading Mario Paint Composer, as I'd never been exposed to Mario Paint on the SNES. Thank you. Excellent work, and yes, the meows and woofs are hilarious!
Simply amazing! Thanks for bringing back memories. I remember when i brought the Nintendo Power issue of megaman 3 to school and everyone was crazy about it!
This is the most fucking amazing thing I have ever seen. Kudos. Amazing theme, amazing game. You brought the two together perfectly. I can't wait to see what else you did.
Thank you for doing this on ACTUAL Mario Paint, and not Mario Paint Composer! It takes so much more skill to make a tune sound decent without the use of sharps and flats!
@ProfiBettler2008 Thanks for proving my point over and over again. I was saying THIS wasn't 8bit. As this version is made with mario Paint. Which is a game for the SNES and therefor this song is 16bit. I know MM2 is 8bit. But this isn't
UTORAMAN! UTORAMAN! SEVEN! This theme was epic before it was remixed into a song and put into Mario Paint Composer... I like how much effort you put into this video and you did a really good job. 5/5 + favorited
The version many people you see playing isn't an emulated version, but a remade program that only includes the sound portion that allows you to save the files and stuff.
Impressive! Takes serious skills to make something of this quality in the original game! Especially since it only allows you to use 3 sounds per line/beat and you can't adjust the speed and/or notes like people using the composer version!

It's explained in the comments section. He's using Mario Paint's music sequencer to recreate the Dr. Wily Stage 1/2 Theme from Mega Man 2. And doing an awesome job of it.
Soooo nice. Haha, i remember back when I tried to make some decent music with Mario Paint. Well, can't really say I had success :P Very nice job there man!
it was an original game for the SNES. he did this all by hand, each note by itself, all by ear then, using a computer, spliced the parts together and made a seamless recording.
I love this song. It makes you feel so pumped! It made me literally say this, "Alright game, after all this shit you put me through in the first half of the game, now it's time to return the favor!"

Damn Yaga funny seeing you here (it's snesterday) - I was just stopping by this vid to find the first (at least remaining) video I liked on UA-cam!
I did this on April 14th. It took 8 solid hours to complete this arrangement.
I use the save state feature on my emulator to preserve all of my arrangements. I just loaded up the original take and merely changed that last note to introduce the next melody line. Hope this answers your question.
Hi, I’m from the future.
Yes, I am a music major. I am now a full-time music teacher. This particular arrangement took me eight hours to complete.

The song in one part: ruff ruff ruff ruff
Me: Rush? Is that you?
Just came from the Gaming Historian's video on Mario Paint! What a great job you've done with one of my fav Megaman tracks!
I love how you never overuse the meows in your compositions, so when they come round they always raise a little smile :)

mario is literally floating at the top because of the tempo
The first time my UA-cam recommendations gave me something worth watching. I know you probably won't see this, but great job dude. Sounds great.
To bring up an old meme:

I know. I posted it just to get the music up, rather than as a video.. didn't ever expect it to have such a response!
I can't stop thinking about okkusenman when I listen to this.

That was.. beautiful..
This is easily your best arrangement yet. Its amazing how you can create this stuff with the limitations.
tom, you never cease to amaze me; this has definitely got to be one of your best Mario Paint videos yet! Awesome rhythm!
I could never, and I would never.
Just came back from Gaming Historian, legendary gaming music with legendary creation, excellent
@MonkeyAttack2 it took about 8 hours, and yes, this is the Super Nintendo version.
This is absolutely magic!
Dude do you know how much this means to me! This is awesome! This game me and a friend of mine used to play as kids and we still play it from time to time! Thanks dude!

This might just be the most awesome thing I have ever seen, it brings back so many memory's. Awesome job!

@GamingHistorian, heard the clip, had to come and listen to the full thing, great job! It’s on repeat now
Simply amazing! Thanks for bringing back memories. I remember when i brought the Nintendo Power issue of megaman 3 to school and everyone was crazy about it!

Damn this is awesome.
Best Mega Man theme, and an awesome job recreating it.
Thanks for the Mp3 ^^
Great job on it, I look forward more Megaman songs by you!
This is the most fantastic thing I've seen this month. And though it is still the 2nd, I don't see this changing until December.
Ok, that's just freaking gorgeous. You did good, kid. You did real good.
Great song from one of my all time fav games.
Nicely done, sir.
Thank you for doing this on ACTUAL Mario Paint, and not Mario Paint Composer! It takes so much more skill to make a tune sound decent without the use of sharps and flats!
This was absolutely stunning. I am blown away.
All by ear.
Unbelievably fantastic job. Greatest thing I have ever heard
The Wily Stage on MM2 happens to one of my fave retro songs. To think you could do this on Mario Paint! You sir, did awesome!=D
hahaha! I didn't new that you could actually make music on that thing. I love how you used the cat and dog "notes"... XD
Something of the best I ever heard! You are great man!! ^^
Man... You have earned my respect. Congratulations are in, do not know when it took more time is to be congratulated.
Man, you have some serious skills with this game.

@ProfiBettler2008 Thanks for proving my point over and over again.

I know MM2 is 8bit. But this isn't
Yep. Gaming Historian brought me here, too.
Yeah! Your stuff is great man! Mega Man 2 is my fave NES game of all time, ever since I was a little kid playing it back in '88!
UTORAMAN! UTORAMAN! SEVEN! This theme was epic before it was remixed into a song and put into Mario Paint Composer...
I like how much effort you put into this video and you did a really good job. 5/5 + favorited
That must've been tough to do. Excellent work!
What an amazing arrangement! It is really well done!
Imagine putting this on VHS back in the day, one part at a time. I'd go mad

Very nicely made. One of my favorite songs.
The version many people you see playing isn't an emulated version, but a remade program that only includes the sound portion that allows you to save the files and stuff.
Congrats on 500 000 views Tom!
I think you've done great for the limitations.
Impressive! Takes serious skills to make something of this quality in the original game! Especially since it only allows you to use 3 sounds per line/beat and you can't adjust the speed and/or notes like people using the composer version!
That makes me smile as well. Excellent work.
Hilarious and awesome. Great work you did there! That had have taken a lot of patience!
The best song ever. I never get tired of hearing this. the gameboy sounds make it sound authentic.
Oh, what an awesome rendition of this theme...Okku--nevermind.. Great work TomBobBlender, I'm sure any hardcore MM2 fan will love this.

Love the bark and meow parts! Awesome job!

I never had it, and I can STILL tell that this rocks.
Awesome, awesome, awesome.
The best song ever, on the most fun instrument ever. Greatly performed.
I am so incredibly impressed that this was actually done on the Snes and didn't use the PC composer.
Soooo nice. Haha, i remember back when I tried to make some decent music with Mario Paint. Well, can't really say I had success :P Very nice job there man!
I love all your Mario Paint songs. :D
congratulations, you're now my hero.
Wow.. that looks so complicated!
That's dedication.
Now this is how to use mario paint. great job you took one of the best songs of all time (from video games) and almost made it better.
one of the best mario paint vids ive seen
GJ ^^
Man, that's impressive. Mario Paint is so uncomfortable to use, I commend your efforts.
it was an original game for the SNES. he did this all by hand, each note by itself, all by ear then, using a computer, spliced the parts together and made a seamless recording.
that's incredible I can't believe you could use cat and dog sounds to make it sound so good
Lol, I love these. Amazing. Excellent tribute to video game music, using another classic video game to do so.
Awesome! Thanks for posting the mp3
O_0 Wow... You really spent alot of time on this.
I love this song. It makes you feel so pumped! It made me literally say this, "Alright game, after all this shit you put me through in the first half of the game, now it's time to return the favor!"
this brings back some awesome memories from when i was a kid :) i grew up with these games.
@goat210210 what're you talking about? This is his theme. He loves it.
if anything it's megaman characters that didn't make it into MM2 that did it.
That was amazing. Fantastic job!
The dogs and cats are perfect!! Great job 50 outta 10 stars man!
Man.
This is the first ever Mario Paint video I saw, over a year ago now.
It's kind of nostalgic, seeing it again. =)
1.25x is perfect.
Meow... Meow Meow....
LOVE the use of the "cat"-sounds.
Great video game song, too.
YOU, SIR, ROCK FOREVER!
